I found God on the corner of First in Amistad
Where the west was all but one.
All alone,
Smoking his last cigarette,
I said "where you been?"
He said, "ask anything"

Where were you
When everything was falling apart?
All my days,
Spent by the telephone.
That never rang
And all I needed was a call
That never came
From the corner of First and Amistad

[Chorus]
Lost and insecure,
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor,
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me

In the end,
Everyone ends up alone
Losing her,
The only one who's ever known
Who I am, who I'm not,and who I wanna be
No way to know
How long she will be next to me

[Chorus]

Early morning,
City breaks
I've been calling
For years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never send me no letters
You got some kind of nerve
Taking all our love.

Lost and insecure,
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor,
Where were you? Where were you?

[Chorus]

Why'd you have to wait,
To find me?
To find me?

My Interpretation:If I'm not mistaken (and I probably am) the streets of gold in heaven are sometimes referred to as "First Street" and Amistad was that slave ship that was basically comparable to "hell"

The guy in the song is basically at a crossroads between going one way or the other.

He's been trying to connect with God, but hasn't been able to make it click, until he meets him "in the flesh" right at the corner between high life and low life. God is protrayed as this laid back, wise old man smoking a cig to make him seem more approachable.

So, finally, God finds him, and the man is lost, broken, and on the verge of suicide, but he is found and his faith is renewed.

General Comment:I see this song as describing a situation where you need help but your too afraid to ask for it or are refusing the help that you are being offered.

General Comment:So I've annalyed this song for months, and the way I see it, its about not having help when you need it the most, Isaac Slade said, "Its about how I didnt have help when I needed it the most, I had plenty of help here when I didnt want it, and then when I did, you were'nt there" he begins the song, on the corner of First and Amistad, as though he is metaphorically, at a cross roads in his life, he chats to god, as though he is an actual person, on the corner casually smoking his last cigarette.
'All my days were spent by the telphone, you never rang, and all I needed was a call, that never came' I take this as though all he ever needed was to know that god was there for him, he didnt need a miracle, or some sort of elaborate sign that everything was going to be O.K, all he needed was to know that he had support, and that god was looking out for him.

My Interpretation:I am only going to interpret the first verse for right now.
"Where were you/ when everything was falling apart." He is being very direct. I don't think there's any hidden meaning to this. All he is trying to say is that he needed God because everything in his life is falling into pieces.
"All my days/ Spent by the telephone/ that never rang/ and all I needed was a call/ that never came/ from the corner of first and Amistad"
Here, he is saying that he has waited and waited for what seemed like forever to get an answer to prayer from God. All he needed was an answer to prayer and everything would be fixed.

General Comment:This song can be interpreted in many ways. Here's what I think of the second verse:
"Where were you/ when everything was falling apart"? The man was asking God where He was when he and everyone else truly needed Him there most. Because earlier in the song, the man found God way after all this stuff was going on in his life. "All my days/ were spent by the telephone/ that never rang/ all I needed was a call/ that never came to the corner of First and Amistad". The man was prayed for God to give him some help, but he felt God just wouldn't answer his prayers or even give him a sign as to what he should do. First and Amistad was the street corner that the man figuratively found Him(where he thinks God's been all this time), and he feels his call never reached Him. But, as told later in the song, God was there the whole time, the man just wasn't open enough to finding Him.

Song Meaning:In order to examine this song and be as close to the original meaning, it's necessary to look at it with all the evidence presented from the artists themselves.

The Fray, despite their stake in the secular market, is a band that is, to this day, firmly rooted in Christian principle. Although quoted in the context of heavenly figures, Revelation alludes to the strength of an individual's account of certain events, known better as their testimony. Keeping in line with that thought, Isaac Slade, on behalf of The Fray, have made use of their personal story rather than straight up doctrine and preaching to connect to their listeners.

Drawing from several other members comments, it is highly likely this song is, indeed, a conversation. Man both narrates while God answers; this dialogue takes place mostly in the chorus. The opening verse sets the scene as a narration and his questioning of where God has been in the midst of the man's struggle and tragedy. However, rather than attempt to understand where God's been, the man is upset and he continues to cut God off.
The second verse introduces her, presumably someone's girlfriend or significant other. This verse clearly addresses man's uncertainty of his relationship with 'her'; despite confiding in her (Who I am, who I'm not and who I'm gonna be), she has shown, in one way or another, that she is leaving or has left (No way to know how long she will be next to me). This verse is also man's way of venting to God.
At the bridge, Man's frustration is reaching a fever pitch. He confronts God as to why He's left no messages, no calls, no letters, believing that God has been apathetic to the plight of man. Conversely, it can be said that man has been ignorant to God's letters (1

“You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I’m still right in the thick of it. There’s some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.”

My Opinion:"You found me",in the chorus, sounds like he wanted to commit suicide.Like doing through a depression state. He was angry at God cause He didn't show up in his life during his troubling time. Then he thinks his relationship with his girlfriend is not gonna last. He really is questioning God with questions like "Why didn't you show up earlier in my life."

General Comment:If I am not mistaken, I heard on the radio that the lead singer lost a loved one on 9/11. With that in mind, listen to the song again and see if it doesn't make sense......I was hoping someone else on this site could collaborate -

General Comment:I think this song means when you just go through so much, And your slowly breaking. You start asking for god, Screaming to him but you just get no answer, No help, . I think you found me means that hes commited suicide and at last god has found him.
