There's a wild wind blowing,
Down the corner of my street
Every night there the headlights are glowing

There's a cold war coming,
On the radio I heard
Baby it's a violent world

Oh love don't let me go
Won't you take me where the streetlights glow
I could hear it coming
I could hear the sirens sound
Now my feet won't touch the ground

Time came a creepin'
Oh and time's a loaded gun
Every road is a ray of light
It goes on
Time only can lead you on
Still it's such a beautiful night

Oh love don't let me go
Won't you take me where the streetlights glow
I could hear it coming
Like a serenade of sound
Now my feet won't touch the ground

Gravity release me,
And don't ever hold me down
Now my feet won't touch the ground.

General Comment:A Little help?? I am writing a paper on this song in which I am supposed to analyze the sociological perspective of the lyrics. I think this one would be great, but is it a truly functionalist perspective??

Song Meaning:I think this song is about a man who is just about to die a midst a war which has just begun.
    "I could hear it coming
I could hear the sirens sound"
Represents the ambulance that is rushing to his aide before he dies.

As he is dying in his lover's arms, he comes to a realization to appreciate the true roads of life, that have taken him upon many journeys until his sudden death.
"Oh and time's a loaded gun,
every road is a ray of light"

He then dies, and passes on - as his soul is released from his body, and therefore cannot touch the ground.
    "Gravity release me,
won't you ever hold me down
Now my feet won't touch the ground."

General Comment:This song has a lot of meaning, or at least to me it does. It's about how the end of the world is coming, and how everyone is frightened, but as long as he has his love by his side, he knows that he'll be alright no matter what happens.

My Interpretation:It seems that most people agree that this song is about a War, which I can totally see. To me this song has a completely different meaning, and let me just say that Coldplay has always been my favorite band since I was 15! I love all their songs, and they are just absolutely amazing and talented.

To me this song is a metaphor about a relationship that you've known is heading South for a very long time. You could see it coming- the "wild wind blowing Down the corner of my street, Every night they're headlights glowing, There's a cold world coming." Love has kept you in this relationship regardless of the pain, yet when the time came to go separate ways, you still don't want to let go-"Oh love don't let me go, Won't you take me where the street lights glow." It's been a very long road- "Time came a creeping, Oh and time's a loaded gun." My favorite part; there's hope- "Every road is a ray of light It goes on. Time only can lead you on." There is beauty in all things, even today- "Still it's such a beautiful night." Change is the essence of life. My eyes are open now, and things will never be the same, for better or for worse-(last line of song)- "Gravity released me. And don't ever hold me down. Now my feet won't touch the ground."

That's what I love about Coldplay! I can relate to all their songs at different parts in my life- they have always been there.

Oh love don't let me go
Won't you take me where the street lights glow
    I can hear it coming
    Like a serenade of sound
Now my feet won't touch the ground

    Oh Oh Oh

    Gravity released me
And don't ever hold me down
Now my feet won't touch the ground

General Comment:From what i beleive i think the song means something about the war.

Theres a cold world coming-The war made things all depressing
Love don't let me go-Men HAD to go fight sometimes
I can hear the siren sound-When an attack came they played a siren
Now my feet wont touch the ground-He's running for his life!!!

    That's what i can decipher

My Interpretation:I don't know what it is, but the Viva la Vida album, every song on it made me think of war and the things it does to people in some shape or form. That sound continued onto the Prospekt's March EP, though it's not a bad thing. I like this new, almost historical sound they have.

Life in Technicolor ii sounds like a "hang in there" sort of song. Like lukebeaumont said, "it sounds like the end of the world is coming and it is inevitable, but love makes the time you have left worth living." I totally agree with that. However, it sort of speaks for the decades, if you know what I mean. There have been times in the world's history where people felt utterly helpless in a world that was spiraling out of their control, but they made it through. They survived. They held on for love, the love of their family, their friends, husbands, wives, children, relatives...they held on for the love of humanity, for the love of life with hope to lead them on.

It's a rare thing nowadays that a band can capture such raw emotion that everyone on earth can relate to. Coldplay has done just that.

General Comment:This song is in the movie "Night at Museum 2". One of the quotes in the movie is "the key to true happiness is doing what you love". Maybe when you find your own key to happiness, doing what you love, perhaps your life becomes more colorful.

General Comment:"There's a wild wind blowing
Down the corner of my street"

The hardships of times have reached all of us

    "Every night they're headlights glowing"
Kinda saying that you're experiencing the same thing, a daily routine, life is happening here and there everywhere you go...lights glowing have this radiant vibrancy that speaks "life"

    "There's a cold world coming
    On the radio I heard
    Baby it's a violent world"

Lover, embrace the warmth with me cause it's obvious the world is going to get cold...cold, with wars, economy downturns, terrorist threats, you name it.

"Oh love don't let me go
Won't you take me where the street lights glow"
Take me where the street lights glow, I picture a carnival feast out in the pier by the beach..where all the street lights glow. people are still trying to enjoy and make the best of life despite the troubles of the world. instead dwelling into drugs and alcoholism, go enjoy your life with your friends..to live life is to shine where the street lights glow...where all the rest of the people glow.

    "I can hear it coming
I can hear the siren sound"

Sirens -- Firefighters, the world is on fire.. political authorities, Interpol, United Nations, Presidents, Ambassadors, Kings, etc. they're all trying making an attempt and solving the puzzles of our world, or trying to put the fire out, the catastrophes, genocides, threats, etc.

    "Gravity released me
And don't ever hold me down
Now my feet won't touch the ground"

Couples, Friends, Families, etc. are on the ferris wheel...releasing themselves from gravity, lifting off the ground and enjoying the sight of the moment.

My Interpretation:I'd have to agree on the interpretation of Death and All His Friends, that these two new albums have to do with philosophy on life. It's making light of the fact that death is so serious to us, but we ignore it -- he's saying that we should embrace and get to know the unexplored parts of life, even death.

I feel that the lyrics to this song relate specifically to the discovery of the self. The first verse, with references to war and violence, represents the initial scared reaction that most people have when first encountering true self and sentience. In the first chorus, I believe his reference to "I can hear the siren sound," is a double-entendre, with the obvious meaning that he's scared too, just like everyone else. The other interpretation is much like the second verse, because "the siren sound" could also refer to the beautiful singing of an entrancing lady. In the second verse, the "like a serenade of sound" and "still it's such a beautiful night" seems very clear to me -- embracing the beauty of life, even the dark side of it.

The line "now my feet won't touch the ground" recurs in more of their songs besides just this one, and I think it always seems to refer the free feeling of making your sense of self more important than societial norms. The last lines perfectly conclude all of the ideas, saying that once you embrace the self, life, death, and all his friends, you can never let yourself go back: "gravity release me, but don't ever hold me down... now my feet won't touch the ground."
