Candy talks to strangers
Thinks her life's in danger
No one gives a damn about her hair
It's lonely down on track street
She used to go by Jackie
The cops, they'll steal your dreams and they'll kill your prayers
Take a number where the blood just barely dried

Wait for something better
No one behind you
Watching your shadows
This feeling won't go

Crooked wheels keep turning
Children, are you learning
Acclimatize but don't you lose the plot
A history of blisters
Your brothers and your sisters
Somewhere in the pages we forgot

Take a number Jackie
Where the blood just barely dried
You know I'm on your side

Wait for something better
No one behind you
Watching your shadows
You gotta be stronger than the story
Don't let it blind you
Rivers of shadow
This feeling wont go

And the sky is full of dreams
But you don't know how to fly
I don't have a simple answer
But I know that I could answer
Something better

This feeling won't go

Wait for it [Repeat: x4]

My Interpretation:I agree with most of the interpretations that have concluded the story is about a prostitute. But I do have some of my own interpretations as well "take a number where the blood just barely dried" could have something to do with the phrase "he/she did a number on you" (that is in the form where you; "do someone physical damage or humiliate them"). The number here beeing the act of sex for pay one would conclude that Candy would always have a fresh wound ("where the blood just barely dried").
The line "no one behind you watching your shadows" simply refers to the paranoia of the trade stemming from fear of the police, pimps and violent customers (or maybe any customers at all).
Also i didn't find any interpretations on why they went with "shadows"rather than "shadow" - so i would like to add a last comment here: Shadows would make the story take place in night time, since in daylight you won't have several shadows, just the one.

General Comment:This is a great example of an incredible song that doesn't even have a "chorus," per se. It takes a heck of a songwriter to do that.

My Interpretation:I really like the part, "Crooked wheels keep turning, Children are you learning, Climatize but don't you lose the plot," I feel like Flowers is saying that when you grow up life is alot more complicated than when you're a kid. He's saying that you should have an interesting life, but not let it get too dramatic and out of control. Really applies to some people in my life lol.

Song Meaning:No, this is DEFINITELY about a prostitute... "Track Street" refers to walking the track, and Candy is definitely a hooker name. Plus refering to the cops killing dreams... If she gets busted, then she can't realize a lot of dreams because she will have a record.
