I'm five years old
It's getting cold
I've got my big coat on

I hear your laugh
And look up smiling at you
I run and run
Past the pumpkin patch
And the tractor rides
Look now, the sky is gold
I hug your legs
And fall asleep on the way home

I don't know why all the trees change in the fall
But I know you're not scared of anything at all
Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day with you today

I'm thirteen now
And don't know how
My friends could be so mean
I come home crying
And you hold me tight
And grab the keys

And we drive and drive
Until we found a town far enough away
And we talk and window shop
'Till I forgotten all their names

I don't know who I'm gonna talk to now at school
But I know I'm laughing
On the car ride home with you
Don't know how long it's gonna take to feel okay
But I know I had the best day with you today

I have an excellent father
His strength is making me stronger
God smiles on my little brother
Inside and out he's better than I am
I grew up in a pretty house
And I've got space to run and hide
And I had the best days with you

There is a video I found
From back when I was three
You set up a paint set in the kitchen
And you're talking to me
It's the age of princesses and pirate ships
And the seven dwarfs
And Daddy's smart
And you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world

And now I know why the all the trees change in the fall
I know you were on my side
Even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
Staying back and watching me shine

And, I didn't know if you knew
So I'm taking this chance to say
That I had the best day with you today.

General Comment:This song is a love letter to Taylor Swift's mother, Andrea Swift, who usually accompanies her daughter while she's on tour.

The country star told CMT Radio the story of this song, which she wrote out on the road and kept as a secret from her mom until Christmas. Swift explained: "In the first verse, I was talking about being 5 years old, so as a writer, it was really fun to go back to that place of the way that I used to talk when I was 5. I wrote the song from that perspective, and I starting thinking, 'What would I be thinking if I was 5 and I was remembering this?' And it goes, 'I'm 5 years old/It's getting cold and I've got my big coat on.' It had language like that - that makes me really think back to that time. I actually wrote that song without telling my mom and recorded it without telling my mom. Complete secret session. Then I got the track back and synced up all these home videos of me when I was a little kid and made this video and played it for my mom on Christmas and said, 'Merry Christmas!' She had no idea that it was me singing for the first half of the song. And then she just broke down crying when she realized I had done this whole thing to surprise her. It was a really cool moment."

Taylor had to drop this touching song from her Fearless tour set list as her mother burst into tears backstage every time she heard it. Andrea explained, "She had to drop it from the set because I kept breaking down."

General Comment:This song is so meaningful and simple. I'm nearly fifteen and even I know that if I'm a mom some day and my child writes this sort of song for me, I'll bawl like a baby.
    It's so beautiful.
I love the line, "I'm thirteen now and don't know how my friends could be so mean."

Song Meaning:This is about her mom, and how she's been there for her through it all. Yes, I know it makes a few references to her father, but you can tell that she's speaking directly to her mom. "Daddy's smart, and YOU'RE THE PRETTIEST LADY IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD." The whole song is about her relationship with her mom. In the beginning, she recalls a memory from when she was little and she and her mom were together at a farm in autumn (hence the coat, pumpkin patch, and tractor rides).

In the second verse, she recalls being 13. She comes home from school crying because her friends hurt her. The two of them drive around and talk, and Taylor is glad to be with her mom. She doesn't know how things will blow over with her friendship problems, but she knows that her mom is always there for her, and that things will be okay.

Taylor says that she's now older and wiser, but she still needs her mom. She thanks her for always being supportive and helping her through it all.

General Comment:i love my mum so much!!! this song always makes me think about the things she does that i dont eeven realise at the time. "I know you were on my side even when I was wrong" this is one of my favourite lines, because a lot of the time you don't realise it until you look back and realise that she was always there for you. i can relate to most of this song (apart from come home crying (coz i dont cry infront of ppl) and window shopping (coz i dont like to shop)) my mum means the world to me and i just don't tell her enough how much she ,eans to me. I love this song!! :)

General Comment:I love this song. I know it's about her mom or whatever, but when I listen to it I think of my dad. I really want this to be my father/daughter song at my wedding, even with all the obvious mom hints.

What do these lines mean? Obviously she's praising her brother, but "he's better than I am"?
