Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum

This is my winter song to you
The storm is coming soon
It rolls in from the sea

My voice, a beacon in the night
My words will be your light
To carry you to me

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love

They say that things just cannot grow
Beneath the winter snow
Or so I have been told

They say were buried far
Just like a distant star
I simply cannot hold

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?

This is my winter song
December never felt so wrong
'Cause you're not where you belong
Inside my arms

Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum

I still believe in summer days
The seasons always change
And life will find a way

I'll be your harvester of light
And send it out tonight
So we can start again

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?

This is my winter song
December never felt so wrong
'Cause you're not where you belong
Inside my arms

This is my winter song to you
The storm is coming soon
It rolls in from the sea

My love a beacon in the night
My words will be your light
To carry you to me

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?

I have a bit of a different view. If you watch the music video, which I LOVE:) youtube.com/watch it's like the two characters (which are sara and ingrid I'm guessing?) are searching for love and trying to make it grow. It almost like the song is questioning if there is still love in the world but they figure out that it is still every where, you just have to search for it and strive to make it happen.

Gorgeous song. i think the one verse sums up the meaning: "December never felt so wrong/ because you're not where you belong/ inside my arms." Something came in to her relationship and tore them apart whether physically or emotionally I am not sure. But she wants him back but is questioning whether their love can continue/live. Yeah. That is my take.

This song hurts. But it helps me heal. Does that make sense? I relate it to the loss of my pregnancy. Incredible song. Absolutely beautiful. I wish they would make more music together.

    My Interpretation

Quite a beautiful song! Just heard it tonight off scrubs Ingrid is a artist that i found through Joshua Radin, but love the metaphor between winter (meaning death to love and life) and their love going through a bad spell or not able to grow to the changing seasons (spring and summer) where life is found to begin show thus "Is love alive" where hopefully their love will be able to grow and prosper... at least that's how i see it. haha

This song reminds me of my best friend because of the lyrics "December never felt so wrong" and "They say were buried far, just like a distant star, I simply cannot hold." She was the best thing to ever happen to me. I ended up falling in love with her but was never able to tell her because I was scared I would lose her friendship. I did my best to show her the happier things in life when she was going through rough times. She has such a beautiful smile. The beginning of December, something happened to which I still don't understand and she pushed me away, so I pushed back. We barely ever talk now. I think about her everyday since I last saw her. She'll always be my shooting star.

    My Interpretation

Its about losing someone (death or distance) and hoping that the love at least survived.

Remembering the happy days and knowing that life will go on:

"I still believe in summer days. The seasons always change and life will find a way.

Ill be your harvester of light and send it out tonight so we can start again.

and one day you will be reunited: "My voice; a beacon in the night. My words will be your light, to carry you to me."

This is my favorite song by my two favorite artists. Such beautiful melancholy lyrics. i just watched the music video with my mom on christmas eve. she is very extremely freakishly amazigly wise. before we watched the music video, we both thought it was just a song about a lost love. but after my mom saw it, it took on a whole new meaning to her. in the video, they're losing hope and they're wondering, "is love alive?" then at the very end of the video, a tree grows. my mom said "hey, that could be the tree of life. and the song coud be abut God!" i was like, "oh dang, we gotta watch that again." so we listened to the lyrics and watched the video with the mindset that it was a religious song.."my voice a beacon in the night my words wil be your light to carry you to me" they could be reffering not to a relationship with two lovers, but a relationship someone has with God. A lot of Ingrid's songs are about hope. sometimes we lose our way an we wonder, "is love alive?" and who do most of us turn to for hope? God. beautiful. simply beautiful song.

i just watched it again and at the very beginning of the song, there's a candy cane. candy canes represent the Good Sheperd's crook which He uses to "reach down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who all like sheep have gone astray." (that's not my own definition.) the song is simply about God wanting his "lost sheep" to find their way again and come back to Him. "this is my winter song december never felt so wrong cuz youre not where you belong inside my arms." so i didn't word it correctly. it's about God's relationship with someone. and when we finally find our way, we feel His love. just like the end of the music video. ok i promise this is my last post.

    This song is so beautiful.

You can hear the sadness in her voice and yet at the end she is hopeful that he'll come back to her.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
