Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum

This is my winter song to you.
The storm is coming soon,
It rolls in from the sea

My voice; a beacon in the night.
My words will be your light,
To carry you to me.

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love

They say that things just cannot grow
Beneath the winter snow,
Or so I have been told.

They say were buried far,
Just like a distant star
I simply cannot hold.

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?

This is my winter song.
December never felt so wrong,
Cause you're not where you belong;
Inside my arms.

Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum bum

I still believe in summer days.
The seasons always change
And life will find a way.

I'll be your harvester of light
And send it out tonight
So we can start again.

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?

This is my winter song.
December never felt so wrong,
Cause you're not where you belong;
Inside my arms.

This is my winter song to you.
The storm is coming soon
It rolls in from the sea.

My love a beacon in the night.
My words will be your light
To carry you to me.

Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?
Is love alive?

General Comment:i believe this song means that in winter everything seems dead, that relationships can grow cold. my favorite line: "is love alive?"

General Comment:I feel that the line "You're not where you belong inside my heart" can mean two things:

    - You're not in my heart, which is where you belong
    - You don't belong in my heart [anymore]

The two meanings are very different, but I love that they could mean either one. I'm sure it's actually the first one, but I like the idea that the song could be more about how someone no longer loves someone else rather than how someone misses someone else..

General Comment:The music video has a lot of similarities to the book "THE SHACK". I agree with BEC21195. I think that Sarah and Ingrid are in search of true love and are really striving to make it happen, but their efforts prove hopeless, so they start wondering... music and movies always glorify love, but in the real world "IS LOVE ALIVE"? So though they are heart-broken and sad, they still keep pushing on together, relying on each other, though they are so hurt, they can't even talk to each other, they just co-exist with a silent hope they get from walking with each other. Then finally, at the end of the video through the ray of the sun, which I believe symbolizes God, the beautiful flowers they've been trying to grow in their own strength, miraculously grows in abundance through God's intervention. So the moral of the story is "in the end, with God's power, it will all work out, if its not working out, its not the end" (Ecclesiastes 7:8 The end of a thing is better than its beginning.) This song reminds me of myself and my aunt. We're having similar struggles, and I dedicated it to her in December, when I first heard it. I'm just trying to be hopeful and expect a happy end to my trials...

General Comment:This song hurts. But it helps me heal. Does that make sense? I relate it to the loss of my pregnancy. Incredible song. Absolutely beautiful. I wish they would make more music together.

My Interpretation:I agree with beh700, but I think there's a slight lesbian undertone. I didn't think so until I saw the music video. My interpretation is two women trying to find love. Maybe their love wasn't accepted and something got in their way (fmaily, beliefs, society), and they're trying to find it.

It could also be about best friends, missing each other. But that's just my take.

My Interpretation:I think this song is very intelligently written.

Winter is usually associated with the death of (or at least a stop to) life (aka plants, trees, flowers, etc.). So, this is where the two sing:

"They say that things just cannot grow
    beneath the winter snow,
or so I have been told."

That last line is very important. Because it shows that they don't believe that things cannot grow. Winter and love analogies in this song. I think it's really to do with two people who are seperated. But because they are seperated, does that mean that their love is gone? And can't grow anymore? Just as in winter, does it mean that all life is at an end? This song is a rebel to that common belief. This song is about missing a loved one, but also realizing that love can grow with absence. Her words are their only way of keeping their love alive. And so, she repeatedly asks herself in those lonely winters, is their love still alive...or is it dying like the life outside because of the cold?

It's sort of nice, because in the end, she finally says that summer will come, and...I don't know, I guess they'll be together again.

General Comment:This song is so beautiful.

You can hear the sadness in her voice and yet at the end she is hopeful that he'll come back to her.

General Comment:i just watched it again and at the very beginning of the song, there's a candy cane. candy canes represent the Good Sheperd's crook which He uses to "reach down into the ditches of the world to lift out the fallen lambs who all like sheep have gone astray." (that's not my own definition.) the song is simply about God wanting his "lost sheep" to find their way again and come back to Him. "this is my winter song december never felt so wrong cuz youre not where you belong inside my arms." so i didn't word it correctly. it's about God's relationship with someone. and when we finally find our way, we feel His love. just like the end of the music video. ok i promise this is my last post.

General Comment:This is my favorite song by my two favorite artists. Such beautiful melancholy lyrics. i just watched the music video with my mom on christmas eve. she is very extremely freakishly amazigly wise. before we watched the music video, we both thought it was just a song about a lost love. but after my mom saw it, it took on a whole new meaning to her. in the video, they're losing hope and they're wondering, "is love alive?" then at the very end of the video, a tree grows. my mom said "hey, that could be the tree of life. and the song coud be abut God!" i was like, "oh dang, we gotta watch that again." so we listened to the lyrics and watched the video with the mindset that it was a religious song.."my voice a beacon in the night my words wil be your light to carry you to me" they could be reffering not to a relationship with two lovers, but a relationship someone has with God. A lot of Ingrid's songs are about hope. sometimes we lose our way an we wonder, "is love alive?" and who do most of us turn to for hope? God. beautiful. simply beautiful song.
