It's hard to argue when
You won't stop making sense
But my tongue still misbehaves
And it keeps digging my own grave

With my hands open and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens

Why would I sabotage
The best thing that I have?
Well, it makes it easier to know
Exactly what I want

With my hands open and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens

It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

Put Sufjan Stevens on
And we'll play your favorite song
'Chicago' bursts to life
And your sweet smile remembers you

My hands open and my eyes open
I just keep hoping
That your heart opens

It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

It's not as easy as willing it all to be right
Gotta be more than hoping it's right
I wanna hear you laugh like you really mean it
Collapse into me, tired with joy

General Comment:I think this song is definitely about someone helping another through a hard time, and the benefactor falling in love with his savior... but she doesn't return his feelings. But eventually, he gets the chance to be her savior, and she finally understands how he felt, and they all lived happily ever after.

General Comment:This is one of my all time favorites. Definately my favorite on the CD. Caught them in Concert in D.C. last fall and they rocked! They finished with this song accompanied with a video, it was amazing!!!
Daybreak is my favorite part, I love how you can just feel the sense of relief and apprecaition from the couple. To me it screams "FINALLY!" They found the other person and its just this amazing sense of love for eachother. I think thats pretty relatable and honest.

My Interpretation:I can't ever listen to this song without listening to all three parts together. So beautiful.

The first part could be about something as straightforward as a temporary separation between to lovers, such as one is going to college or moving away, etc, or possibly the first meeting of someone you fall in love with. For me, when I first met my boyfriend, I had butterflies in my stomach all the time, and I guess that could be considered a "storm."

The second part could go a few ways. I think this part of the song is the most difficult to try to figure out. If you were going with the idea that part one was the first meeting/falling in love with, then this one is the relationship. "Worry not everything is sound, This is the safest place you've found" makes me think of a safe, comfortable relationship. However, this could also be the aftermath of a fight. There are just so many different ways to take this song.

The third part is my favorite. Sticking with the stages of a relationship theory, this part is about maybe marriage or their first time together, or something to that extent. "Slowly the day breaks apart in our hands / And soft hallelujahs flow in from the church." This definitely gives like a euphoric feel.

That's just one way to interpret this song, though. There are so many other ways.

General Comment:There is a mistake in the lyrics; it should read "all PEALING thunder," not "PEELING thunder." ("Pealing" like the ringing of bells or laughter.)

"What If This Storm Ends" is my favourite part, though--it sounds almost apocalyptic, and I can definitely hear the Sigur Rós influences in the instrumentation!
