Lyrics for Disaster Button as interpreted by Matty

Disaster Button Lyrics
A little after twelve
The function suite was full
Of people I had never seen before
Ripped up ticket stubs
Confettied on the floor
It dawned on me I'd seen it all before

Cool your beans my son
You look a fucking mess
No one's getting out of here tonight
Hit that button there
The one that just says wrong
We'll lose our minds to all our favourite songs

Throw forward to later
You look light on your feet
When you whirled in the room
I was nailed to my seat
I'm like a prisoner
Getting ready to talk
I feel the blood in my hands
And the threat in your walk

And suddenly
It lifts the roof off the place
It puts a vault in my step
And a grin on my face
It can't contain me
But you need an army
To get me back in my box
Or snap the branches off me

A little after four
The function suite is dead
And I am just a ripped up ticket stub
But here's a helping hand
A voice that's far too close
And I am up and on my broken limbs

Throw forward to later
You look light on your feet
When you whirled in the room
I was nailed to my seat
I'm like a prisoner
Getting ready to talk
I feel the blood in my hands
And the threat in your walk

And suddenly
It lifts the roof off the place
It puts a vault in my step
And a grin on my face
It can't contain me
But you need an army
To get me back in my box
Or snap the branches off me

I think it's supposed to be "When you whirled in the room I was nailed to my seat"

this one will inevitably spark up some serious moshing :D

Quite possibly the best thing they've ever done.

It's about finding an escape from teenage life (lightbody said he wrote it about his youth) through things you'll never remember the following morning, through that explosion of letting go and pressing the disaster button.

There's some imagery I don't understand yet but this song is INCREDIBLE.

I'm pretty sure it's

"Go forward to later you look LIGHT on your feet"

A fantastic song from a fantastic album. To my Northern Irish ear it sounds like "I'm like a prisoner getting ready to talk",
"blood in my hands and the threat in your walk" and "puts a vault in my step"

The right lyrics are here now :)

I think I can see the drinking idea, now that you mention it Tom.

Read my comment back and tell me how I've got that 'all wrong', tomwhitham...

If you've ever been there you'll understand how what I wrote corresponds to what you said.

You drink to much to escape from pressures and whatnot, and the drink changes you.

This song refers to Gary's younger years when he got drunk and did stupid, out of character things. He also writes about these expereinces in 'Brave', where he describes falling down the stairs of the art school and passing out. I believe thats what

"But here's a helping hand
A voice that's far too close
And I am up and on my broken limbs"

refers to.

I'll let Gary himself explain the song title:

"Very scary times. That song is about my mid-twenties, when I definitely had a disaster button. It was very easily pushed and all around me turned to calamity very fast. It's me looking back on a few specific incidents where I could have handled myself a little better."
