I'll seek you out
Flay you alive
One more word and you won't survive
And I'm not scared
Of your stolen power
I see right through you any hour

I won't soothe your pain
I won't ease your strain
You've been waiting in vain
I've got nothing for you to gain

I'm taking it slow
Feeding my flame
Shuffling the cards of your game
And just in time
In the right place
Suddenly I will play my ace

I won't soothe your pain
I won't ease your strain
You've been waiting in vain
I've got nothing for you to gain

Eyes on fire
Your spine is ablaze
Felling any foe with my gaze
And just in time
In the right place
Steadily emerging with grace

Felling any foe with my gaze
Steadily emerging with grace

General Comment:I am actually taking my interpretation from the music video for this song, and I believe that it fits the meaning of the song perfectly.

The video is set in Russia. You can see a woman who is very poor, and it appears that she works as a dancer in some sort of strip club to make ends meet. On stage at the club, the women are dressed with little clothing and very flashy headdresses. They are definitely on display.

Later, we also see this woman practicing the art of dance, most likely ballet, in a studio. She appears very powerful when practicing this type of dance.

What I see here is a woman who wants to escape not only her line of work, which objectifies the female body and presents it to a male audience, but to rise up against the patriarchal society. I don't necessarily see the woman as talking to a specific person in the song, but more speaking out from a female's perspective against the dominant, controlling male presence. She is not going to play into the male's wishes or desires any longer- "I won't soothe your pain/I won't ease your strain..."

When she practices her dance in the studio, she appears powerful and composed- "steadily emerging with grace." These two forms of dance, one leaving the woman disenfranchised and the other leaving her empowered, could simply be metaphors for the ways in which women act around men, or act under patriarchal society.

I definitely sense a deep-seated hatred within this song, which I believe is directed at men (and which I find completely understandable). However, I also fear that the woman in this song is becoming consumed by hatred, which ultimately is a weakness. My heart really aches, because I am a woman and I sometimes feel this way too. It is so depressing.

General Comment:This song illustrates how I've emerged from a relationship (IF you can call it that) with a phony (in every sense of the word).

    I'll seek you out
    Flay you alive
One more word and you won't survive
    And I'm not scared
    Of your stolen power
I see right through you any hour

I sought him initially, but once I found who he really is, I could flay him alive easily. If I let loose with my words on him, he wouldn't survive. "And I'm not scared of your stolen power; I see right through you any hour." Perfection.

    I won't soothe your pain
    I won't ease your strain
    You've been waiting in vain
I've got nothing for you to gain

Well over a year ago, he broke it off with me, and is STILL holding on to see if there can be something between us. This says what I'd say exactly.

    I'm taking it slow
    Feeding my flame
Shuffling the cards of your game
    And just in time
    In the right place
Suddenly I will play my ace

And he thinks he feels bad about the con he pulled on me, about how he hurt me by making me think he was actually a nice, genuine guy, but he has yet to come to realize just what he gave up, and who. One of these days, when the time is just right, I'll play my ace, and the joke will be on him.

    Eyes on fire
    Your spine is ablaze
Felling any foe with my gaze
    And just in time
    In the right place
    Steadily emerging with grace

I've been putting my life back together, not from the damage he caused, from things long past, feeding my flame. And I've seen it all -- there's nothing he could do that could surprise these eyes, and he can't look at them when we're in the same room. He knows I can see right through him.

Life has gone on ... for me, that is. And I'm steadily emerging from a hellish existence into life. He's only one small spec in my story of what I've had to transcend. Child's play.

Felling any foe with my gaze
    Steadily emerging with grace

That sums it up. Love this song.

General Comment:This song always reminded me of myself and the way i am in relationships so i always thought thats what it was about. which isn't something I'm proud of its just how i end up being in relationships and it sucks. this song always makes me cry cause it reminds me how self distractive i am
I'll seek you out ( when i want something/someone i always get them to fall in love )
Flay you alive ( i ruin your life )
One more word and you won't survive ( i destroy peoples feelings with words )
    And I'm not scared
Of your stolen power ( when someone thinks they can win a fight with me )
I see right through you any hour ( self explaining )

I won't soothe your pain ( you fall in love and think i can make you happy and its not true )
    I won't ease your strain ( same )
You've been waiting in vain ( you keep thinking ill change and love you back )
I've got nothing for you to gain ( you should give up and move on )

    I'm taking it slow
Feeding my flame ( how i act when i meet someone I'm interested in )
Shuffling the cards of your game ( figure out what you like and practice )
    And just in time
In the right place ( timing is everything )
Suddenly I will play my ace ( steal your heart )

    Eyes on fire
Your spine is ablaze ( the passion will be intense )
Felling any foe with my gaze ( other girls with retreat )
    And just in time
    In the right place
Steadily emerging with grace ( i do all this with grace )

My Interpretation:I'm 99% positive that if this show was based on any fandom, it was based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It has an eery amount in common with Dark Willow in the end of season 6.

    She sought out the Trio
    She literally flayed Warren alive
The "bored now" line comes to mind, among other examples of her wanting the Trio to shut up.
She wasn't scared of Giles' 'stolen' power (his borrowed good magic)

The rest is more general, but it obviously applies to Dark Willow against the world. I stopped reading Twilight after the first book, so I can't speak to the song's relevance there. But even the tone of the song sounds a darkly mystical, and very much like music I would have put in the background of that Buffy episode.

    My Interpretation:I'll seek you out
    Flay you alive
One more word and you won't survive (Edward when he first sits by Bella in class)

    And I'm not scared
    Of your stolen power
I see right through you any hour (Bella realizing that Edward isn't human but ignoring her fear)

    song= reflection of their relationship

General Comment:You poor poor shallow people. This song promotes femininity and its inherent strengths...Twilight subjugates women into subservient, often helpless, beings whose value lies mostly in their "scent". Bella is a sad and crippled female archetype, whom is too foolish and shallow (much like most Twilight fans), to do anything about it of her own independent volition. In reality, this song is about a Woman that is getting ready to kill a male abuser...Classic Ovarian power undermined by egocentric tweens... Pitiful I say!
