If I were a boy, even just for a day,
I'd roll out of bed in the morning, and throw on what I wanted and go...
Drink beer with the guys, and chase after girls;
I'd kick it with who I wanted, and I'd never get confronted for it,
'Cause they stick up for me...

If I were a boy, I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl - I swear I'd be a better man...
I'd listen to her, because I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted 'cause he's taken you for granted,
And everything you had got destroyed...

If I were a boy, I would turn off my phone;
Tell everyone it's broken, so they'd think that I was sleeping alone...
I'd put myself first, and make the rules as I go,
Because I know that she'd be faithful, waiting for me to come home...
To come home...

If I were a boy, I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl - I swear I'd be a better man...
I'd listen to her, because I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted (you wanted) 'cause he's taken you for granted, (for granted)
And everything you had got destroyed...

It's a little too late for you to come back,
Say it's just a mistake, think I'd forgive you like that;
If you thought I would wait for you, you thought wrong...

But you're just a boy... you don't understand...
(And you don't understand, oh...)
How it feels to love a girl - someday, you'll wish you were a better man...
You don't listen to her, you don't care how it hurts,
Until you lose the one you wanted, 'cause you've taken her for granted,
And everything that you had got destroyed...

But you're just a boy...

    General Comment:All guy is a little boy. They never grow up and don't appreciate what they have Until they had lost it.They make promises but don't keep them.
    Sometimes
    ,,It's a little too late for you to come back,
    Say it's just a mistake, think I'd forgive you like that;
    If you thought I would wait for you, you thought wrong..." It's because girls dont waste their time on these boys.

    General Comment:This song is the greatest. Especially the adagio movement after the Latin choral part.

    And Skeeter sure does play the heck out of Beyonce's washboard.

    I just LOVE Celtic folk-rock....

    Song Meaning:What I think she's saying is to have loyalty with the one you love, because no one deserves to be cheated on. Beyonce wants to be a man because she would like to fall in love without any of the nonsense, but realises women do it too. So, yes, have loyalty with the one you love.

    General Comment:I work 12 hour shifts, and I counted 7 times that this song was played on the radio in one shift. Most days it's 4 or 5.

    I know that she obviously isn't trying to be sexist in any way, or whoever wrote these lyrics wasn't trying to be sexist. There is clearly a specific meaning to this song.

    I just hate when I hear it, because it just reminds me of the age-old saying "nice guys finish last". It seems to me that whenever a girl actually finds that wonderful guy who treats her like a queen, listens to her, understands her, worries about her, respects her, adores her and would never hurt her, they don't care one bit. They always want to be with that complete asshole that hurt them over and over, and the nice guy just doesn't even compare to him.

    I've been there, and I'm sure that I'm not alone on this one. My point mainly is about guys rather than girls, though. There are a lot more inconsiderate assholes out there than there is nice guys.

    I just wish sometimes that when girls say that they want a sensitive, considerate man who takes care of them, that it was actually true.

    General Comment:The song is complete BS. Girls are no different from boys and I know this from personal experience. My estranged wife did the exact thing that Beyonce sings in this song...being a boy has nothing to do with what people do - women are as likely to cheat on their "man" as guys are...I hate this song

    General Comment:i love this song, the music video gives me chills.
    beyonce has some kick-ass vocals and this song really shows it.

    im not sure what these lyrics are supposed to mean:
    "If I were a boy, I would turn off my phone
    Tell everyone that it's broken
    So they'd think that I was sleeping alone"

    thanks :)

    General Comment:In the end, it's her (as well as any other woman's) own damn fault for choosing an @sshole who wronged her. Too many women put themselves through this exact same process, because they "go after the one they wanted" who is more than often a complete jerk, and they're either too naive or too blind and stupid to realize it; you fall for his lies. All the while, the decent and caring people, like me - who are actually a LOT more pleasant when they're not being dragged into the stereotypical guy category, and berrated because of poor womanly-judgement - are either in relationships with women who sound incredibly not unlike the men in this song, or they're single and don't date because they're smart enough to realize that people are selfish and destructive backstabbers.

    If women opened their eyes a little more and actually made a conscious effort to understand guys, (it's not bloody hard, I understand women perfectly), then they wouldn't be repeatedly lining themselves up for heartache in the long run. You'd also know which guys are jerks/players and which guys are empathetic and understand you.

    Here, I wrote you girls a little manly-version of song for shits and giggles!

    =====
    =====
    If I were a boy, even just for a day
    I'd wake at 7 in the morning,
    and bust my ass 8 hours a day.
    Get drunk at home, can't be f*cked chasing girls!
    Kick it with who I wanted, and
    not care if I was confronted for it
    Because I stick up for myself...

    If I were a boy, I don't think i'd have a clue..
    About the way life feels,
    but i'll sing like sh!t and pretend that I do!
    We listen to her, because we know how it hurts.
    When you need someone to talk to..
    She don't care or understand you..
    And so everything you had got destroyed.

    If I were a boy, I'd have dead batteries on my phone.
    Because I can't be arsed recharging, who cares
    'cause everyone KNOWS i'm sleeping alone.
    wish I could put myself first, but that's percieved just as wrong.
    She's more than likely sitting at home, right now
    Bitching about me in a gay song... in a gay song....

    If I were a boy, I don't think i'd have a clue..
    How it feels to love a girl,
    When in fact she only pretends to love you.
    We listen to her, because we know how it hurts.
    When you need someone to talk to..
    She don't care or understand you..
    And so everything you had got destroyed.

    It's half of MY fault for choosing someone so slack.
    The biggest mistake, was thinking you loved me back.
    and I was better off alone, all along~
    (I rhymed twice as much as she did in this cr@ppy little song!)

    But you're just a girl.. You don't understand... (And you don't understand)
    and if you agreed with this crap, well..
    Then it's likely you'll never find a decent man!
    You listen to what you want, and only care when YOU hurt.
    So when you need someone to talk to..
    and he doesn't care about you..
    Now you KNOW why everything got destroyed.

    But you're just a girl..

    =====
    (Doesn't feel very nice does it?)
    =====

    tl;dr - I don't like this song: Vocals below average; Music very simple; Lyrics based solely on relationship failures and the assumption that she's better than all men, because she magically knows what 3 billion varying woman want from a guy. These songs prey on the broken-hearted and draw in fans by making them think that they can relate to the song. The only good thing about this song, is that it convinces the broken-hearted listeners to pin the blame entirely on their other half; which may temporarily makes them feel better or recover slightly faster. Or spend $15 on an album they'll never listen to in the future, as to further fuel the career of one the worst artists in existence. :3
