Lyrics for Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On a Ba... as interpreted by xkitty4lifex

Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On a Ba... Lyrics
Mr. Sandman showing his beam, when he walks into the room the walls lean in to listen
Surfed out blank waves, click back and forth like old headlights, sniffing bottled glue again.
Head like a steel trap, wish I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't,
I don't just want to be a footnote in someone else's happiness.

Does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
Does he know the way, does he know the way of the crickets that would convince me to call it a night?

I will never end up like him
Behind my back, I already am.
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know.

The last time you came through,
Oh darling, I know what you're going through.
The last time you came through,
Oh darling, oh darling, oh darling...

Tempest in a teacup,
Get unique.
Peroxide Princess shine like shark teeth
It's a sign, (it's a sign)
It's a sign, (it's a sign)
It's a sign, what if you peaked early.

And does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
Does he know the way, does he know the way of the crickets that would convince me to call it a night?

Does he, does he know the way to worship our love?
Does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?

Well, I will never end up like him.
Behind my back, I already am.
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know.

The last time you came through,
Oh darling, I know what you're going through.
The last time you came through,
Oh darling, oh darling, oh darling...

Oh, does your husband know? Does your husband know? Does your husband know? Oh oh oh, whoa-oh...
Does he know? Does he know, does he know? Whoa-ah-ah-ah-ah, oh, oh, oh

But I will never end up like him.
Behind my back I already am.
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know.

Oh, the last time you came through,
Oh darling, I know what you're going through.
The last time you came through,
Oh, darling I know what you're going through.

What it sounds like to me (I still can't make out all of it either and I'm not certain on what I've written; I don't want to send in a wrong/incomplete report. sorry):

mr. sandman showing his beam
when he walks into the room the walls lean in to listen
serve out bright waves click back and forth
like old headlights sniffing all of you again

head like a steel trap
I wish
i didn't(x8)
I don't
just want to be a footnote
in someone else's happiness

does your husband know the way that
the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
does he know the way
does he know the way
all the (tricks?) that would convince me to call it a night

I will never end up like him
behind my back, I already am
keep a calendar this way you will always know
the last time you came through
"oh darlin', I know what you're going through"
the last time you came through
oh darlin' (x3)

(ahh) [temptress/tempest] in a [d-cup/teacup]
get unique
of a rockstar princess shine like [shark/sharp] teeth
it's a sign (x4)
what if it peaks early?

does your husband know the way that
the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?
does he know the way
does he know the way
all the (tricks?) that would convince me to call it a night

does he, does he know the way to worship all of you?
does your husband know the way that
the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?

But I will never end up like him
behind my back I already am
keep a calendar this way you will always know
the last time you came through
"Oh darlin', I know what you're going through"
the last time you came through

Oh
does your husband know(x3)
does he know (x3)
Oh, oh, oh

But I will never end up like him
behind my back I already am
keep a calendar this way you will always know
Oh, the last time you came through
"oh darlin', I know what you're going through"
the last time you came through
"oh darlin, I know what you're going through"

A woman is cheating on her husband with the speaker in this song. He falls in love with her and thinks she'd never turn on him like she did on her husband (even though she is already cheating on him as well). She plays on his feelings to get what she wants ("oh darlin' I know what you're going through").

to grayce's comment on how the song is about a woman cheating on her husband with the speaker.. personally i don't think this is it.

"does your husband know the way the sunshine gleams from your wedding band" means does your husband know that you (his wife) like to show off your ring and care more about the superficial side of the marriage rather than the more deep meaningful relationship it is supposed to bring. I.e. the speaker is asking the woman if her husband knows that she is in it for the fame and money the marriage brings with it.

"I will never end up like him, behind my back i already am, keep a calendar this way you will always know"

the speaker doesn't want to be like the husband. He doesn't want to marry someone because they like his money or fame etc. But the speaker (guy who is already married, possibly pete idk) is afraid that he may end up like 'the husband' and it won't be his wife's fault, but his. Maybe he feels he is enjoying the fame/glory too much instead of concentrating on the real meaning of the relationship and having this shitty superificial relationship and is insecure about it,
The whole 'keep a calendar...' is to say that maybe it is a matter of time before it happens, maybe not.
Idk, that's my take on it. I love this song though. Its so strange listening to EOWYG and then this...
i love how rapidly their music styles change.

oh and to add to my last comment ^

"last time you came through oh darling i know what you're going through"
probably means that the (hypothetical) woman who was in her marriage for the fame etc probably realised that it was wrong and keeps "coming through" it like she is recovering from it like it was an illness or something and the speaker knows what she is going through as he finds himself feeling the same.

This song is probably about a man who's sleeping with a married woman.
"Does your husband know the way the sunshine glems from your wedding band"
It was probably inspired by pete's marrige. Being a rockstar he's probably had sex with married women. Now he's thinking I hope it doesn't happen to me.

honestly, nothing about the first verse makes sense to me. "sniffing bottled you again"? >>

but i definitely think the song is about the speaker having an affair with a married woman.

"i dont just want to be a footnote in someone elses happiness". he doesn't want to just be a side to her marriage.

"does your husband know the way the sunshine gleams off your wedding band?" is a very intimate line - i imagine the speaker laying in bed with the woman in the morning, looking at her finger and seeing the light reflect off of the ring.

"does he know the way of the crickets that would convince me to call it a night?" after the speaker and the woman were done there'd be awkward silences, and the speaker could hear the crickets cause of how quiet everything is, so he takes it as a cue to leave.

"i will never end up like him, behind my back i already am" the woman is also cheating on the speaker with another man, therefore he's just like the husband.

besides those two random verses, i love the song.
and patricks voice..
oh my god..

I pretty much agree with MashyPoo too.

This song is amazing, it's a million times better than I Don't Care. I'm too excited for words about Folie a Deux.

I'd like to add that as much as I try to dislike Fall Out Boy for what they've become, I can't turn my back on them because they continuously reinvent themselves in a positive way and continue making catchy, witty and all around smart pop-rock music.

I still can't bring myself to like Pete, though. I've lost all respect for the guy in the last couple of years - he's everything Fall Out Boy never represented in their earlier days.

Patrick is one of my favorite musicians these days, though.

Wow this is amazing. I definitely like it more than "I Don't Care". I though I'd hate it but it has such an awesome melody that pumps its way into my head and Pete delivers very witty and meaningful lyrics again. I do have to rate his lyrics (as much as I don't like him) but Patrick's music -- wow. Winning combination. It's amazing.

I agree it's probably about the deception of having an affair. It seems like the speaker is the person the woman is having an affair with and as much as he hates being a "footnote", he enjoys the heat that forbidden love brings.
I'd say from lines like "peroxide princess" and "gleam" and "wedding band" that the wife is very superficial about her marriage and doesn't care for her husband -- maybe she doesn't care for the guy she's having an affair with either.
"Keep a calender, this way you will always know" seems to be a blunt way of saying how she's "fitting him" around her life. She seems to be messing with his feelings as well as that of her husband and the speaker seems to resent her for it, however he can't rate himself much better.

That's what I got from it. It's awesome however you interpret it. XD

fall out boy said they would work more musically than having patricks amazing voice carry them.
they definitely show it with this song. im glad i feel excited again for the fall out boy i was obsessed with since TTTYG.
Even though the music is quite different now, they're still amazing song writers and im glad they're actually using their talent and doing work again. good job guys.

i definitely agree with dances for music about this song and some parts of what mashypoo said. but i totally disagree with the money and fame part mashypoo was talking about. that is false. just because she has a wedding ring doesnt mean shes in for money or fame. thats probably the stupidest this ive ever heard. sorry.

Well, I will never end up like him.
Behind my back, I already am.
Keep a calendar, this way you will always know.

that part is amazing. it definitely has the message this girl has a major problem with relationships and the speaker doesnt want to end up like her husband being cheated on. she either has a type of bipolar or a need of wanting to change, scared of commitment and staying at one place problem (from what im thinking) or whatever it is, the speaker wants her to know what shes doing and whats shes going through. I'm also guessing that
....
keep a calender, this way you will always know
the last time you came through.
oh darling i know what you're going through

is all one part following through than two separate parts.
im guessing the calender is to keep herself in track when shes been with the speaker. it makes more since to me like that.

Although it seems like an affair, I'm really not sure about the overall meaning of the song. But this line:

"Does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?"

I have a different interpretation than what you guys have been saying. I can see the whole materialistic side of it, but I thought of it as more of an admiration of her. As in, the husband doesn't really take notice of her. The narrator is admiring her, and picks up little details like that about her... if that makes sense. It's like he's questioning the value of their (the husband/wife) relationship, and trying to put himself above the husband, in an "I'm better for you" kind of way.

I agree with Seewa about the "I like you more than your husband". I saw it like this guy secretly likes a married chick [secret, hence the walls listening].

And I believe it's "Sniffing bottled GLUE again"
