One of these days the sky's gonna break
And everything will escape, and I'll know
One of these days the mountains are gonna fall
Into the sea, and they'll know

That you and I were made for this
I was made to taste your kiss
We were made to never fall away
Never fall away

One of these days letters are gonna fall
From the sky telling us all to go free
But until that day I'll find a way to let everybody know
That you're coming back, you're coming back for me

'Cause even though you left me here
I have nothing left to fear
These are only walls that hold me here
Hold me here, hold me here

One day soon I'll hold you like the sun holds the moon
And we will hear those planes overhead
And we won't have to be scared
We won't have to be, we won't have to be scared

You're coming back for me
You're coming back for me

You're coming back to me

General Comment:I first heard this song last May when I was sampling wedding blogs on Tumblr. Then I didn't hear it again all summer or fall. It's amazing that during such a cold dreary month I hear it again. I guess I'll just stick with Joy Division instead, or perhaps some Alex Clare

General Comment:I believe the song is about religion, is obious, but refers to two different persons and different situation, i think the he talks to God, because of the christian mission, but at the same time he want to make her feel right, in peace with the war, telling her about Gods and Jesus' promises, I'm not sure but he might be at war, he may be a recruit soldier...remember Civil Twilight

My Opinion:I didn't read through a lot of peoples ideas, but I did notice a lot of "religious" tones. Too some extent I agree. I think it's kinda simple..

One of these days the sky's gonna break
And everything will escape and I'll know
One of these days the mountains
Are gonna fall into the sea and they'll know

Hes saying one day the world will come to an end.

That you and I were made for this
I was made to taste your kiss
We were made to never fall away
    Never fall away
One of these days letters are gonna fall
From the sky telling us all to go free
But until that day I'll find a way
To let everybody know that you're coming back
    You're coming back for me

Hes found his perfect love, and she died. The boundaries of the earth couldn't keep them separate, whether he dies and joins her, or she is reincarnated and joins him in life again. He will find her again, damn it! :D

Just my simple take on it!

Song Meaning:Obvious Biblical reference to Psalm 46:2 "Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea" (NIV).

My Opinion:this song maybe about this guy losing his girl to someone or his girl left him cuz he says "That you and I were made for thisI was made to taste your kiss We were made to never fall away Never fall away"
or about the end of the world and only a frw people know cuz he says:"One of these days the sky's gonna break And everything will escape, and I'll know One of these days the mountains are gonna fall Into the sea, and they'll know" or about him hiding away and someone is coming to save him cuz he also says One of these days letters are gonna fall From the sky telling us all to go free But until that day I'll find a way to let everybody know That you're coming back, you're coming back for me'Cause even though you left me hereI have nothing left to fear These are only walls that hold me here Hold me here, hold me here One day soon I'll hold you like the sun holds the moon And we will hear those planes overhead And we won't have to be scared We won't have to be, we won't have to be scared

My Interpretation:This love song can be religious or secular. I think of 9-11, with the planes overhead, and the letters falling from the sky (all that paper). And all the fears we humans can have, for good reason. Think of all the natural disasters that happen on this planet: earthquakes, tornadoes, avalanches, landslides, floods, fires, tsunamis. Sometimes it feels like the world could just break apart. But even with those material things breaking apart, as huge as they are and as devastating, true love remains strong. Love survives. It is immaterial. We can't touch it but we know it's there. We can explain love by religion, or some people are OK not understanding why love survives. Hope feeds people regardless of religious beliefs. We dream of being united with someone we love. We have hopes and we have fears. Think of the letters sent in bottles in the ocean. The Word makes things real. We know the words of this song are pure poetry. They make us think and feel from our own perspective in life. There is no one right answer or interpretation. That is what great art is supposed to do for us.

General Comment:I think that people are right when they quoted the artist saying this is a delusional love song - yes I think that there are rapture undertones but I believe this song can be interpreted in two ways. It is a beautiful piece of poetry that is open to either the meaning of a last cry towards an unrequited love or it's the rapture/end of the world/return of Christ.

In the first meaning, he declares the events that are about to happen - he declares that one day the world will end, and that someday he'll prove everyone else right in that he and this lost love of his were meant to be. Maybe she is with someone else, maybe she has just left forever - but he is desperate in trying to convince himself that she's coming back for him. All he wants to do is just hold her and be with her and if it takes the end of the world for that to happen then he's okay with it. Towards the end of the song when he sings "you're coming back for me" it's almost as if he's trying to convince himself even though he knows it'll never happen - it's as if he's crying out as some sort of prayer or petition that maybe if he cries it out enough that she will come back, but she never does..

In the second meaning of the return of Christ, it's still the same desperation - the artist maybe in a hard place -maybe he hates the world and his life and is just sick of it all and is crying out to Jesus just to come back for him right then, which would also make the song delusional and desperate - when he cries out towards the end it's almost as if he just wants to be taken away from his life right then, and he wants the hand of God to just take him away and until then he needs to remind himself that God will come back to save him from his hard place.

But like I said - the beauty of this song is that it is open to both interpretations and even in those 2 meanings there are a million different ways to look at them. It's what makes this song so beautiful
