If the fire's out baby, How you gonna keep me warm?
Supposing you let me, with the door wide open no one can leave

I know its a lie, I want it to be true
The rest of the ride is riding on you
Over goodbyes we'll buy some place

For wishing you could
Keep me closer, I'm a lazy dancer, when you move I move with you
Keep me closer, I'm a lazy dancer, when you move I move with you

If somebody's got soul
You've got to make them move

I know it's a lie, I want it to be true
The rest of the ride is riding on you
Over goodbyes we'll buy some place

For wishing you could
Keep me closer, I'm a lazy dancer, when you move I move with you
Keep me closer, I'm a lazy dancer, when you move I move with you

General Comment:So to me it means: His passion isn't there for her anymore. And even though the door is wide open for them to seperate they both stay in the relationship(probabaly cause they "love" eachother). She then is saying she knows the "love" is a lie but she wants it to be true. She then goes into

I think it means that they stay in the relationship, moving, living life together and instead of having a soul she is lazy, she just keeps living life with him. She also says if somebodys got soul you got to make them move, which I take it that if either one of them in the relationship have a soul still then they need to make that move to split.

General Comment:The metaphor of a collect call is brilliant. Do Gen Y'ers even know what that is? LOL (one of the posts above explains it) and depending upon which side of collect call you're on-- it's a great relief when your the caller and the receiver accepts the charges; and PITA on the receiving end, *unless* the fire's still there in the relationship. When the fire's out...'oh great, a collect call, more COSTs from me on this one.'
Many of the posts above summed together express what's going on the dying/dead relationship that continues to go through the motion, soulless.

I think the lyrics in the bridge are: "... you gotta make THE move" (not 'them' move)

    What is 'the move'?

See Emily's Crowd Surf off a Cliff: "...the ending outlasting the move."

Song Meaning:I completly agree with dodgetthebullet. I didn't get the end either, but I guess that you're right about it being a warning

    General Comment:BEST song on Fantasies.
I think she longs for someone as shy as her - and shes asking them to "make her move" or make a move. This hasn't happened yet, perhaps that's why she says "I know it's a lie, I want it to be true"

General Comment:I think the song is about a relationship, and she's saying that she's a lazy dancer in a relationship - comaring a relationship to dancing. She puts forth so much effort, but the other person also needs to put forth effort - to meet her halfway so to speak.

    If the fire's out baby
How you gonna keep me warm
    Supposing you let me
With the door wide open no one can leave - If the door is left wide open then they would be able to leave. I think the next line - I know it's a lie I want it to be true - is saying that it's a lie that no one can leave. Since the door is wide open, either one of them can leave the relationship. I imagine they're in a warm house, and the house is colder than average since the fire is out, but it's even colder outside of the house. In literal terms, the spark is out of their relationship, but it would feel even more lonely to be in no relationship.

    I'm a lazy dancer
When you move I move with you - She's a lazy partner in a relationship. She doesn't try very hard. She just goes wherever it seems to be going. If he's really into the relationship, she'll go along with him and be more serious. If he grows apart from her, she'll go along with that as well. She's a passive partner in their relationship, or any romantic relationship.

    If somebody's got soul
    You gotta make them move
Make them move - If you meet somebody with soul, you have to make them put effort into the relationship. You can’t just let them get away from you.

My Interpretation:To be honest, anyone with the experience of being in a long-term relationship when the flame just isn't there anymore would know that the lines "I'm a lazy dancer / When I move I move with you" would mean that even though you want them to try harder, to relight the flame again, because of the place where the relationship is, you just can't try anything in order to make things better. It's more of a "No, you first" situation - it's stupid, but they have to do it first before you try harder as well. It's one of my favourite lines in the song, it's so expressive.

General Comment:Love this song, hate that I found it after I had a situation that it sums up perfectly. I'm definitely adding metric to my regular cast of sad-in-the-car songs.

General Comment:It's a love gone stale.

"If the fire's out baby, how you gonna keep me warm?"
"I know it's a lie, I want it to be true."

This makes me think of a relationship that has gone on so long it's become more of a routine than anything. These two people are in a relationship solely because they've been in it for so long, being out of it just wouldn't make sense, but they've lost the passion. This song, to me, is one of them finally admitting it.
