I wake up every evening
With a big smile on my face
And it never feels out of place
And you're still probably working
At a nine to five pace
I wonder how bad that tastes

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell

Now where's your picket fence love
And where's that shiny car
And did it ever get you far
You never seemed so tense love
I've never seen you fall so hard
Do you know where you are

And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
If you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell

Tomorrow you'll be thinking to yourself
Where'd it all go wrong?
But the list goes on and on

And truth be told I miss you
And truth be told I'm lying

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

Now you'll never see
What you've done to me
You can take back your memories
They're no good to me
And here's all your lies
You can't look me in the eyes
With the sad, sad look
That you wear so well

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you hear this song and you sing along but you never tell
Then you're the fool, I'm just as well
Hope it gives you hell

When you hear this song
I hope that it will treat you well

You can sing along
I hope that it puts you through hell

My Interpretation:I think it's obviously a direct message to someone who broke his heart at a younger age, probably because she thought he (assuming the song is written from the singers point of view) wasn't going to make it anywhere in life, and left him for someone with a promising future. Now, he hardly has to do anything besides rock out every once in a while, and all in all has an easier life than the uniform, "successful" person with that promising future. The singer wants to rub it in that he's successful, while the heartbreaker lives a mediocre life instead of what she could have had with him. I say it's a direct message because of the line, "When you hear this song, and sing along, but never tell. Hope it gives you hell...etc." I personally picture the "heartbreaker" singing the song with a stressed look on her face with her peers, knowing that the song is directly about her, but everyone around her thinks its just a song, if I said that right haha.

On a side note, LOVE this song. It's that song every guy wants to sing to that one &*#$% from their teen years. Catchy, and that rock out feeling to it. :D

General Comment:GOOD song. It's about rubbing someone in someone's face. It's about saying look what and who you have and look what and who I have, and let's see who ends up the happiest. Creative song

"And truth be told, i miss you,
And truth be told, i'm LYING!!".
What he says there is that
"the truth is, i miss you.
But really, the truth is, i'm lying"

General Comment:My step-dad bought this CD one day and said that this song reminded him of his ex-wife, my mother. I went along with it because I was a kid and he was my daddy, I can't argue with him, I love him. Of course.

I'm 17 years old now. Now that I can actually think for myself, my step-dad really was a dick.

Curtis Frith, if you're reading this, I hope it gives you hell.

Song Meaning:For me, the picket fence reflects on the idealistic life. When you think of a perfect home, you may think of a well kept lawn, large house, and lovely garden. When I think of a lovely garden, I think of flower beds and a white picket fence around the front of the property.

I think he is basically saying that she hasn't got that idealistic life now. She hasn't settled down and she isn't living in a secure relationship.

General Comment:i'm pretty sure it's just about another guy. they became famous when he was what, like 18? i don't see how it can be about any girl he dated before that.

Song Meaning:it's a great song. I could totally relate.

what it is about is obvious to everyone now. an ex girlfriend broke his heart, so he's wishing hell upon her feeling she would deserve it, and feels he's better off without her, but still feeling the pain of losing someone he had feelings for. she starts feeling regret not being able to find a better boyfriend than he was, which she can't even afford a car or a picket fence because she has no guy going to make money for her. he hopes that her seeing him around will remind her of her regret, giving her hell.

"And you're still probably working, at a 9 to 5 pace"
most likely relates to the fact she use to not work when she had a man who went to work for her (him) and now she has to go working again. sucks for her

I have no idea what the part about the picket fence refers to, unless it's something to do with how she can't afford a picket fence, which I don't know why they would choose that of all things, but the car works great. I think part of the song explains she only dates guys for money because it refers to those two things, her having to work at a 9 to 5 pace now, and that "when you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well, he's a fool" implying she'll be tricking him somehow, likely to be the case in getting money out of him.

My favorite line is "with a big smile on my face, and it never feels out of place"

I also like "when you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well, but he's a fool, you're just as well, hope it gives you hell"

some day I'm going to make a bad ass animated music video of this song.
