Lyrics for DLZ as interpreted by wphantom

DLZ Lyrics
Congratulations on the mess you made of things;
On trying to reconstruct the air and all that brings.
And oxidation is the compromise you own
But this is beginning to feel like the dog wants her bones
saved

You force your fire then you falsify your deeds
Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds
And fortune strives to fill the vacuum that it feeds
But this is beginning to feel like the dog's lost her lead

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
This is beginning to feel like it's curling up slowly
and finding a throat to choke

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
Barely controlled locomotive consuming the picture
and blowing the crows, the smoke

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
Static eplosion devoted to crushing the broken
and shoving their souls to ghost

Eternalised. Objectified.
You set your sights so high.
But this is beginning to feel like
the bolt busted loose from the lever

Never you mind
Death professor
Your structure's fine
My dust is better
Your victim flies so high
All to catch a bird's eye view of who's next

Never you mind
Death professor.
Love is life,
My love is better.
Eyes could be the diamonds
Confused with who's next

Never you mind
Death professor.
Your shocks are fine,
My struts are better.
Your fiction flies so high,
Y'all could use a doctor
Who's sick, who's next?

Never you mind
Death professor.
Electrified, my love is better
It's crystallized, so'm I.
All could be the diamond
Fused with who's next

This is beginning to feel
like the dawn of the luz of forever.

This is beginning to feel
like the dawn of the luz of forever.

This is beginning to feel
like the dawn of the luz of forever.

Could "death professor" mean our scientists, who have lost the point of striving science. Science should make life easier and equal for everyone, make humankind evolve and help to understand the big questions of life...not be on the leash of monetary system or war machinery.

Death professor = scientist gone wrong?

What do u thing?

Just a note, cause I don't think anyone has mentioned it, Luz is the original Caananite name of the Biblical town of Bethel.

This was where the story of Jacob's Ladder originates, where God promises Jacob the land of Caanan.

So i tend to read it this way- the dawn of the luz of forever still means that this is the crux of history, upon which the world's power mongers, and everyone, must make the decision to either get their shit together, break down the current power structures (your structure's fine, my dust is better- i see this to be talking about living outside of materialism, free flowing thru life as particle matter or something to that effect), and find a moral centre in order to ascend or else the world is doomed.

Is this song about cooking meth?

If this song had come out after Breaking Bad I would have sworn it was about that show.

I thought, as soon as I saw the title, it was abbreviation for deals.
KnowhatImean?
That fits with drugs. But I think every song is about drugs, and I got this song off Breaking Bad, so it's the only thing that makes sense.

When I first heard this song, my interpretation was that it referred to a friend who had become a drug dealer, and perhaps even partaken in the consumption of his own product.

--"You force your fire then you falsify your deeds
--Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds"
He sells the drug and justifies his actions in his life

--"And fortune strives to fill the vacuum that it feeds"
The money he makes from dealing isn't worth the inherent risk and guilt.

--"But this is beginning to feel like the dog's lost her lead"
His friend is beginning to lose control of himself due to his line of work, and may be using drugs.

--"This is beginning to feel like it's curling up slowly
--and finding a throat to choke"
His friend's actions are going to come back on him.

--"This is beginning to feel like the long
--winded blues of the never
--Barely controlled locomotive consuming the picture
--and blowing the crows, the smoke"
Everything is going out of control in the dealer's life.

--"This is beginning to feel like the long
--winded blues of the never
--Static explosion devoted to crushing the broken
--and shoving their souls to ghost"
The "static explosion" of drug use destroys the lives of the "broken" people who use them, and may even kill them.

--"Never you mind
--Death professor
--Your structure's fine
--My dust is better
--Your victim flies so high
--All to catch a bird's eye view of who's next"
"Death Professor" could easily be interpreted as a drug dealer. His friend's lifestyle is his own choice, but the writer prefers being 'clean'.

The following lines hold basically the same meaning:

--"Your shocks are fine,
--My struts are better."

--"Electrified, my love is better"
--It's crystallized, so'm I.
--All could be the diamond
--Fused with who's next"

--"This is beginning to feel
--like the dawn of the luz of forever."
I heard this as "loser." I thought it referred to the "loser" lifestyle of the dealer.

just my interpretation.

Also, a 'death professor' could be someone who produces or is involved in the production of a low grade product that kills people, or perhaps is just a reference to the number of people who eventually die from overusing an addictive drug.

Really no one here picked up on this? I maintain that this song is pretty direct.

I thought this song was patently about drug dealers. Dust is slang for cocaine or heroin. All the lyrics fit this format, mentioning their moral descent 'Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds', their lust for power 'You set your sights so high'. It employs a double meaning 'Who's sick, who's next?' that refers to how mentally and physically unhealthy people who engage in this practice usually are, dealers and users alike.

I think the readings of it being about the Iraq war, or interventionism, or government in general can also apply, but 'my struts are better'.

Everyone's at least somewhat right on this song.

This song's about the Illuminati. And how they're dying. Finally.

This is beginning to feel like the DAWN OF THE LUZ OF FOREVER.

This song reminds me so much of the "scientific" process or method.

For instance:

"You force your fire then you falsify your deeds
Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds
And fortune strives to fill the vacuum that it feeds
But this is beginning to feel like the dog's lost her lead..."

It is no secret that many professors/scientists at high-end institutions feel a pressure to produce statistically "significant" findings. The pressure to perform or to keep one's job can result in the falsification of data or whole studies. Falsification and/or plagarism, however, is very much against the scientific creeds.

Another example:

"Eternalised. Objectified.
You set your sights so high.
But this is beginning to feel like
the bolt busted loose from the lever..."

The first part of this reminds me of how scientists (especially those in the social sciences or medical sciences) treat their human "subjects". They objectify these people, and create a wall in order to maintain objectivity. The thing is, however, the scientist is still using human beings in his/her study, but this objectification makes the subject seem lesser or subhuman in the process.

In other words, science can become twisted by man's process of discovery.

Sheesh, some of the ideas of what people hear in the lyrics amaze me. Here's my interpretation; it's a song about divorce. The person professing death is the ex. And look at all the references to diamonds.

When one gets married, one usually vows 'forever'.

"Dawn of the Luz of Forever" includes a simple respelling of lose. A word people often screw up because of confusion with loose. Dawn of the LuZ. DLZ. Ever see how bands scribble down their set lists? This is a classic mnemonic.

It's hard to know when a relationship is really over. These lyrics are expressing the pain. Dark, bitter pain.

I believe the song is about humans trying to be gods.
And the eventual destruction that will bring when we try to push humanity to it's limits, "cleansing" everyone that's different
Our technologies will destroy us.

Anyone who has Ok Calculator should listen to Bicycles Are Red Hot. Part of the lyrics are:

'Never mind sex professor.'

Compare that to:

'Never you mind death professor.'

Not sure if there is a deliberate connection here.

In an interview they said the album was a letter to science telling it to stop messing up all sorts of things, it seems to me that he is telling off science for creating such horrific ways to kill people. And whenever they say dog, they are totally referring to God, when they say the dog wants her bones saved, it could be he is saying god wants her children saved. and in the song where he says "all could be the diamond, fused with who's next," maybe thats referring to being blown up and melted with others....

It's about a lot of things guys. Get pissed off geez, it's obviously a commentary about what things are beginning to feel like. I think the professor of death bit is a rebellion against the facts of doom, we obviously can't live forever (no use saving the dogs bones) and you can sing a long winded blues of the never happenings. But- the dawn of the luz of forever (of the loser forever, partly) the light of consciousness is beginning, a few guys above me said dome interesting things- jds reply to heiniken, luz is also hebrew for the indestructible bone at the base of the spinal column, WG's talking about the consciousness... There's just so much to this, great song, very dark, very modern.

To me this song is a social commentary on the effects of (for a lack of a better word) 'consumerism' & the hopeless feeling bred into the have nots. Rather than chasing our dreams through creativity & spirit we are forever in pursuit of ways to fill the gouge in our souls through insincere methods. We are the dogs being fed the bones. We are the ones whose morals are forgotten. Anyone who dares to think differently is ostracised (Y'all could use a doctor, who's sick?). Rather than nurturing any perceived madness & channeling it into great art they are generally overlooked as non functioning members of society because running with the crowd is not an option. "This is beginning to feel like the dawn of the luz of forever" to me means that we are coming to a point where this feeling is beginning to be challenged - we can either end up having the light blow us up or generate new perceptions.

Sorry, was pressed for time & could write about this song in greater detail, but wanted to get something down quickly as I'm interested in other views on the matter & what is made of my view.

i love this song, been playing it heaps. great album. anyway, going with the its a war thing here are my thoughts:

Congratulations on the mess you made of things; - country is obviously screwed
On trying to reconstruct the air and all that brings. - because they tried to replace too much
And oxidation is the compromise you own - oxidation is negative wordplay on air(rust for example), a bad compromise has resulted
But this is beginning to feel like the dog wants her bones - not sure, but the country wants its bones (a dog's treasured possesions) saved
saved

You force your fire then you falsify your deeds - the whole WMD lying debacle, lying to force a war
Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds - what is being done is hypocritical of US's creeds
And fortune strives to fill the vacuum that it feeds - empty infrastructure being taken over by companies fortune-seeking
But this is beginning to feel like the dog's lost her lead - seems like country has lost its way

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never - blues=historically complaining of oppresion, it seems to be a similar scenario
This is beginning to feel like it's curling up slowly - the campaign is slowly dying
and finding a throat to choke - and a scapegoat is needed to take responsibility

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
Barely controlled locomotive consuming the picture - unstoppable, uncontrolled, clumsy even, forces taking over everything
and blowing the crows, the smoke - crows typically scavenge? the 'fortune stiving to fill the vacuum' is taking over after the war has ended (blowing the smoke)

This is beginning to feel like the long
winded blues of the never
Static eplosion devoted to crushing the broken - crushing an already oppresed people
and shoving their souls to ghost - shoving souls to ghost = murdering

Eternalised. Objectified.
You set your sights so high. - the intentions were essentially noble
But this is beginning to feel like
the bolt busted loose from the lever - but there is not control anymore(the 'lever' is broken)

Never you mind
Death professor - bush i guess, or whoever is in charge
Your structure's fine
My dust is better - scorning his 'structure' by saying mere dust is better
Your victim flies so high
All to catch a bird's eye view of who's next - people getting blown up and seeing that there are only more to follow

Never you mind
Death professor.
Love is life,
My love is better. - not sure.. directly swapping gives my life is better though
Eyes could be the diamonds - diamonds are hard? --> hard eyes, a hard man?
Confused with who's next - just finding a new target

Never you mind
Death professor.
Your shocks are fine,
My struts are better. - love this(im an engineer), no matter how much he shocks with his acts, he can absorb it
Your fiction flies so high, - just making stuff up
Y'all could use a doctor - you all are sick and need help
Who's sick, who's next?

Never you mind
Death professor.
Electrified, my love is better - he is more compassionate?
It's crystallized, so'm I. - it is steadfast, not fleeting. he is also hardened (crystallized) against the whole thing
All could be the diamond
Fused with who's next - anyone could be next

This is beginning to feel
like the dawn of the luz of forever. - although i dont think it fits, it seems as though he sense and impending apocalypse. in that sense, it would mean he feels the war is going to be the starting point of something much greater

what do you think?

phenomenal. this is my favorite song on dear science.

yeah, my initial interpretation was all on war and corrupt politicians in general. didn't catch onto what DLZ stands for, but definitely interesting what hciiman said. mastashasta's religious view was awesome too, didn't look at it that way. this is why i love this site.

brilliant

According to me the subject of the song is the
title of the album "dear science"
the one that is creating better bombs for our good.
the one that provides us with all those things we should not be able to live without
but that are killing us for sure.
the one that is feeding us with GMOs, stamping a copyright on the living, and
for which life is just another adjustment variable.

the "death professors":
the leaders of the industry
covered by the lies of governments
who sell us happiness in a can
and make us believe that it is progress

Here are some of the definitions I found for DLZ:
DLZ Drop Landing Zone
DLZ Designated Launch Zone (military aviation)

"This is beginning to feel
like the dawn of the luz of forever"

the final light, the Great Atomic End
engineered by the Geniuses of our Time
what is your 65% oxygene 18% carbon 10% hydrogene body
worth as compared to their "big steps for Humanity"?

"Never you mind
Death professor
Your structure's fine
My dust is better
Your victim flies so high
All to catch a bird's eye view of who's next"

English is not my first language so I may be wrong.
This is however how I feel this song.
for the moment at least.
Hope it makes sense.

DUDE, your love and his lack of; doesn't make him a douche, just less informed. Chill out with the tongue, my kid gets on here. Don't hate because others take music lighter than you. I learn from the stuff, others just can't stand silence(hence the track on the disc). We know who's who, save the name calling for myspace or some other lame site. Take care

Religion. How can that not strike anyone as such? You pick yours (religion) 'mine is better' death professor(God). -- Reconstruct air and all that breathes. I mean really, this sees like the only logical answer to me. Comments please. Iraq? This is beginning to feel like the dog lost its lead (saved).... No church becoming a business not a faith( hence the AXIS OF EVIL) we're fighting. I could keep going

Hey CoySmilesExposes, you're a fucking trick ass little bitch.

Seriously. Who the FUCK honestly says "I'm a bigger fan that you" just because they were a big enough faggot to name yourself after lyrics of a song? Are you 13? It wouldn't surprise me. And for the asshole who is going to jump in like a tool and say "THIS IS SONG MEANINGS.NET I WONDER WHY NO ONE TALKS ABOUT SONGSMEANINGS", shut the fuck up before I slap the taste out of your mouth.

CoySmilesExpose, I've met Tv on the Radio before, on the fucking street. Does that make me a bigger fan? The fact that I've talked to them? In your 13 year old girl brain it probably does, but no, it doesn't. Sorry people, this shit needs to be said so this little bitch doesn't end up sounding like more of an idiot because they are claiming they are the biggest fans of the newest band they just heard last week. The band? Radiohead. Yeah I know your type CoySmilesExpose. Straight tool. I don't care if you're a 40 year old, people like you ruin music for everyone else because you have no sense of identity, and therefore must shit on other people's day by acting like you know shit about shit.

AND FOR FUCK'S SAKE, BANDS ARE ALLOWED TO USE WORDPLAY IN THE LINER NOTES.
