We are the children you reject and disregard
These aching cries come from the bottom of our hearts
You can't disown us now, we are your own flesh and blood
And we don't disappear just because your eyes are shut, now tell me

Love, loss
Like a bullet's path
Tear through
The cavity of my chest
Lights out
Because the fuse has blown

[Chorus]
As their castles crumble slowly
We watch them fall
Their crown slips from heads unworthy
As we gain control

This is the family that we crossed or never had
This is a war that was lost the day it began
'Cause it's the race we run, but it keeps us at the start
And it's the song I sung from the bottom of my heart, that's how we

Read you
Like a polygraph
Not one
Single bone in your back
Own up
To how you let us down

[Chorus]

Except for you and me, love
Everyone's the same, we know, we know, we know, we know
But if to live, we have to be numb
I'd rather know the pain, I'd rather know, I'd rather know
This happens almost never
But it happened once to me
And this will never be the same
The ends we seam together

I'm not after fame and fortune
I'm after you
When I've served my time I swear I
Will come back for you

(Watch them fall)
As their castles crumble slowly
We watch them fall
Their crown slips from heads unworthy
And right onto us

But, I'm after you
I'm after you
I'm after you
Yeah, I'm after you.

General Comment:I feel its about how a guy has to go to war, and he doesn't really want to but he has to serve his time. And in the end he's swearing he'll come back to his girl.

General Comment:I'm not exactly sure what this song is about but I recently saw Rise Against and was pretty annoyed with what Tim McIlrath said, leading into this song. He introduced it as a song to the PETA people handing out fliers outside the concert, so not only am I already annoyed by these people feeding me their propaganda that I don't care about:

So in that aspect, yes, this is for you guys and I reject your propaganda.
"We are the children you reject and disregard
These aching cries come from the bottom of our hearts"

Second I was annoyed that he took it a step further and supported them on stage. I go to a concert to hear music, not hear your political or personal agenda. That being said, I won't support Rise Against at another show. Rage Against the Machine did the same for me. Just play me your music, the message is in there.

My Interpretation:I think that this song is about revolting against the government. Obviously "heads unworthy" means the kings, from which the crown slips when they are being overthrown. "The Children you reject and disregard" means the people that the government tries to reject, similar to the "Long Forgotten Sons." ALso, the second part of this song, the part where they keep referencing "you" is basically saying that even such a revolutionary has a lover, and that once they have either served their time in prison for their actions, or finished the revolution, that they will leave the world of revolutions and power for a quiet life with their loved ones, like Washington.

My Interpretation:"Im not after fame and fortune,Im after you, When Ive served my time I swear I will come for you." The man is putting the crown for his lover. By denieing it he was sent away for treason. When he served his time in prison he will come back for his lover. "When Ive served my time I swear I will come for you."

My Interpretation:I am torn. This is the first time I have listened to it. I really liked it.

I think I have to agree with the child abuse interpretation. You think your parents wear a crown, when you are young, but then it falls off.

But it happened once to me
And this will never be same
    The ends we seam together

This couldn't be about Revolution and government. It seems more likely about abuse, and how one
    goes about pulling yourself together.

    That is just my thoughts.

General Comment:Don't be stupid people, this song is not about gay rights, abortion, or child abuse.. It's obviously about Revolution, and war against Government. Don't read inbetween the lines when it comes to song lyrics.

My Interpretation:I see it as an anthem of many of the soldiers who went to war in the last decade

General Comment:This songs about an uprising and about the people at war with a monarchy to take back the power. That's what I think.

General Comment:Holy shit! why does RA have so many 14 yr old fans? I mean, I know the music is 100% bad ass, but the message is so easily misconstrued(no offense, but I was stupid as hell when I was 14). This is pretty clear people. This is about AMERICA! This is about taking the power back. . . We are in the midst of great turmoil and stress. Anything can happen, but it's prob the begining of the end as you know it. Read this:

We are the children you reject and disregard
These aching cries come from the bottom of our hearts
You cant disown us now, we are your own flesh and blood
We dont disappear just because your eyes are shut, now tell me

//the government scorns its own citizens and undermines our rights in light of all of our protest.

    As your castles crumble slowly
    We watch them fall
The crown slips from heads unworthy
    As we take control

//the governments power is slipping and bing challenged. the crown a symbol of power, is given back to the people.

This is the family that we crossed or never had
This is a war that was lost the day that it began
Because its the race we run, but it keeps us at the start
Its the song I sung from the bottom of heart, thats how we

//the ongoing, neverending wars that bankrupt this country and make its citizens work for nothing.
