What a night for a dance, you know I'm a dancing machine
With the fire in my bones, and the sweet taste of kerosene
I get lost in the light, so high don't wanna come down
To face the loss of the good thing, that I have found

In the dark of the night I can hear you calling my name
With the hardest of hearts I still feel full of pain
So I drink and I smoke and I ask you if your ever around
Even though it was me who drove us right in the ground

See the time we shared it was precious to me
But all the while I was dreaming of revelry

Gonna run baby run like a stream down a mountainside
With the wind at my back I won't ever even bat an eye
Just know it was you all along who had a hold of my heart
But the demon in me was the best of friends from the start

So the time we shared it was precious to me
All the while I was dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry

And I told myself for the way you go, it rained so hard it felt like snow
Everything came tumbling down on me
In the back of the woods in the dark of the night
Palest of the old moonlight
Everything just felt so incomplete

Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry

General Comment:I know this may not be popular opinion, but to me, the song is an epiphany, where the writer has finally come to the point, after years of burying his feelings in substances, that this woman is his soul mate and life partner.

He was living in Revelry while they were together, which drove them apart, but now he is back, telling her she is the best thing that ever happened to him.

General Comment:I simply adore how the lyrics in their songs are so interpretable. You can get so many meanings from their entire artwork. Love mixed with passion, with sadness and also with faith. And that's why for me, Revelry is by far the best KOL song.

Song Meaning:I think its about him dating a girl but having a drinking problem

she "held his heart the whole time"
but "the demon inside of him" (alcohol) always came first before her- not being able to fight it off

he knows he has a good thing but all he can think about is self-serving and "revelry" (partying)

General Comment:Definitely about choosing fun over a relationship. The word "revelry" means "lively and noisy festivities". So he liked the girl a lot, but the "devil" and him were better off, meaning he preferred the party and fun.

General Comment:this song to me is about him knowing he had found the best thing he ever will but he still couldn't help wanting to party. probably due to alcohol and drugs. the references " the demon and me were the best of friends from the start" is about the demon drink, and prob the kerasine is the drugs. I hold this song so much to my heart as this explains to a tee why i messed the best relationship up i ever had with the best person i will ever meet. In a way I am lucky as she is the mother of my son and he could never have a better mother. In another way it is ironic as it is the first song he always plays and the first he could sing. You only know what you've got when it's gone is true, but never stop cherrishing what you had.

General Comment:I dont think this has anything to do with a lifestyle change, the message is that he drinks and smokes because he doesn't have her anymore

General Comment:Am I the only one that thinks that this part:

"put a fire in my bones
with the sweet taste of kerosene."

Is about getting fired up because he just did some cocaine?
If you have ever done coke you will know that 1) it fires you up, and 2) you will have a slight gasoline or kerosene taste as it melts and runs down the back of your throat. (it is made by breaking down coco leaves with gasoline or kerosene, btw).

The first time I heard it that is what I thought, but hey, it could mean something else... I kinda think I'm right though.

General Comment:It's (By his own admission) about the sturggles of alcohol addiction and how its dependencies can ruin even true love. "but the demon and me, were the best of friends from the start.."
In reference to the demon drink and of course what everybody is saying about it is correct but the alcohol being the driving force in splitting them up.

General Comment:This song kills me. Its perfect. The opening line describes Caleb, lost in the highs of life and not focused on reality and whats really important. "Dreaming of revelry", wow that just sums up the type of lifestyle he probably lives. "But just know it was you all along that had a hold on my heart" couldn't be said in a more beautiful and simple way. This song is what made me love Kings of Leon.

General Comment:It's balancing feeling overexposed and selfish with your feelings. You either give too much or not enough and it's a constant struggle to find comfort in compromise. When you are honest with yourself, you know your heart will always reside on an unreachable plain; so ultimately your desire to be free outweighs the potential warmth of companionship. It is neither good or bad, just the truth...
