What a night for a dance, you know I'm a dancing machine
With the fire in my bones, and the sweet taste of kerosene
I get lost in the light, so high don't wanna come down
To face the loss of the good thing, that I have found
In the dark of the night I can hear you calling my name
With the hardest of hearts I still feel full of pain
So I drink and I smoke and I ask you if your ever around
Even though it was me who drove us right in the ground
See the time we shared it was precious to me
But all the while I was dreaming of revelry
Gonna run baby run like a stream down a mountainside
With the wind at my back I won't ever even bat an eye
Just know it was you all along who had a hold of my heart
But the demon in me was the best of friends from the start
So the time we shared it was precious to me
All the while I was dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
And I told myself for the way you go, it rained so hard it felt like snow
Everything came tumbling down on me
In the back of the woods in the dark of the night
Palest of the old moonlight
Everything just felt so incomplete
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry
Dreaming of revelry

He was living in Revelry while they were together, which drove them apart, but now he is back, telling her she is the best thing that ever happened to him.
she "held his heart the whole time"
but "the demon inside of him" (alcohol) always came first before her- not being able to fight it off
he knows he has a good thing but all he can think about is self-serving and "revelry" (partying)
"put a fire in my bones
with the sweet taste of kerosene."
Is about getting fired up because he just did some cocaine?
If you have ever done coke you will know that 1) it fires you up, and 2) you will have a slight gasoline or kerosene taste as it melts and runs down the back of your throat. (it is made by breaking down coco leaves with gasoline or kerosene, btw).
The first time I heard it that is what I thought, but hey, it could mean something else... I kinda think I'm right though.
Dancing, Drinking, Partying..."To Face the loss of the good thing I have found" (His Faith).
"In the dark of the night I can hear you calling my name" Jesus
"So I drink and I smoke and ask if you're ever around, even though it was me who drove us right in the ground." His relationship with Christ.
"The time we shared it was precious to me, all the while i was dreaming of Revelery"...The old nature
"Gonna run baby run like a stream" Run from God's will to do his own thing..."just know it was you all along that had a hold of my heart" Christ..
Striving to do the will of God and living for God, especially in a world so against it is tough!! That's why Christian's such as myself identify with their music so easily.. Being a Christian is not easy...by "being" I mean doing the will of God, when our Human Nature wants to do the opposite...that's why we as Christians cannot judge those who do not know Christ, because we fail everyday!
In reference to the demon drink and of course what everybody is saying about it is correct but the alcohol being the driving force in splitting them up.
