Lyrics for Haight St. as interpreted by reginakitteh

Haight St. Lyrics
Let's, you and me, make our way just beyond Haight Street.
Lets leave this life behind, forgetting all they say.
The time we had is time well borrowed.
Stay out all night, forget tomorrow.

Let's, you and me, make a night of it.
Old enough to know, but too young to care.
Let's, you and me, make a night of it.
Old enough to know, but too young to care.

The rear view mirror shows the times we're abandoning.
Let's leave this night behind, forgetting all they say.
The time we had is time well borrowed.
Stay out all night; forget tomorrow.

Let's, you and me, make a night of it.
Old enough to know, but too young to care.
Let's, you and me, make a night of it.
Old enough to know, but too young to care.

(Who cares?)
If there's trouble tonight,
(Who cares?)
'cause the kids are alright.
Tonight we'll take this town,
'cause we're old enough to know, but too young to care.

Let's, you and me, make a night of it.
Old enough to know, but too young to care.
Let's, you and me, make a night of it.
Old enough to know but too young to care.

(Who cares?)
If there's trouble tonight,
(Who cares?)
'cause the kids are alright.
Tonight we'll take this town,
'cause we're old enough to know, but too young to care.

This is one song from New Surrender that could have been written a little bit more. It's fun, but a bit repetitive, as well as being the shortest track on the cd. Otherwise, its very similar to Time and Confusion from Never Take.....

Yea this is probably the "weakest" song on the album but it still sounds great.

i think this song is a real feel-good song. it has a catchy tune that stands out while listening to the album for the first time. it's so far one of my favs on the new album, but i guess i have to listen myself into some of the others. was the same with cities.

I love this song. Its about getting away from everything and just spending time with that special person. "Making a night of it."
They won't worry about anything else while theyre out because everything is going to be alright, there is nothing to be worried about.

I love love love this song. It's exactly how I feel about my weekends -- "Let's just do crazy shit and act like teenagers and have a damn good time and not give a damn."

It seems like a lot of people think this song is the worst track on the album. Yeah, it does sound pretty different, but I still like it. I don't mind happy/upbeat songs.

this song is so amazing. probably my second fav on the album. i like the teenager interpretation, though i think its about a significant other. its like he wants to go out with her and do anything and everything and make it the most memorable thing he can and not care what his parents or anyone else for that matter thinks.

Seriously this song is pure awesomeness. the chorus part is plain epic.
i have "Old enough to know, but too young to care" as my myspace motto and as my msn messenger comment. seriously everyday someone tells me that the phrase is pure genius and wants to know where i got it from. most of the people don't know Anberlin and so i introduce them to quality music. of course it's my pleasure ;)

I think Stephen said in one of his blogs that it's about a "boys night out." Still, it could probably go several ways. Very catchy and fun! I think it's a great addition to the album. :D

I agree with Conversed. "Old enough to know, but too young to care" is so accurate.

Can anyone find any significance to Haight St? My immediate impression was "Haight" = "Hate" and they are making their way past all the "haters" who would have them stay where they are and not get into whatever trouble they seem to have planned. But that was just initial impression and I'm really not sure.

Any other ideas?

7sFavoriteSon, Haight Street along with Ashbury street are in San Francisco and they're famous for their role in the counterculture/hippie movement. It's related to the song in that the song is about going out, being carefree and having a goodtime.
