Lyrics for Miserabile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum) as interpreted by fallacyofdualism

Miserabile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum) Lyrics
A red priest broke into our classroom
Caught us children by attention
"Listen closely to the words I speak
Lord knows if we'll ever, ever again meet"

Spoke such words never spoken before
On the way he declared the war
Miracles like you never seen
From a man who was raised up in the sea

A man is coming in thirteen-one
To charm the daughters and the sons
Scared for our lives, I turned to your hand
Hold this tight while we run, if we still can

What disasters may come
Whatever it may be
At the end of the age
It will land you and me
What tragedy may bring
Whatever may fall
At the end of the world
You'll still belong

Before the red priest took his last breath
He told me, "Child, now don't forget
The sun will turn dark very soon
Your days are numbered when there's blood on the moon"

"The earth will shake and the sky will fall
The eyes will open of those enthralled
Don't take this sign, but you'll be killed
By the man from seven hills"

A man is coming in thirteen-one
To charm the daughters and the sons
Scared for our lives, I turned to your hands
Hold this tight while we run, if we still can

What disasters may come
Whatever it may be
At the end of the age
It will land you and me
What tragedy may bring
Whatever may fall
At the end of the world
You'll still belong

Look children to the eastern sky
When you hear the voice, say your last goodbyes
Look there to the eastern skies
When the ghosts take hold of the men who died
Look children to the eastern sky
When your fathers weep and your mothers cry
Look children to the eastern sky

What disasters may come
Whatever it may be
At the end of the age
It will land you and me
What tragedy may bring
Whatever may fall
At the end of the world
You'll still belong

Look children to the eastern sky
When you hear the voice, say your last goodbyes
Look there to the eastern skies
When the ghosts take hold of the men who died
Look children to the eastern sky
When your fathers weep and your mothers cry
Look children to the eastern sky
Look children to the eastern sky

I'm not certain about some of the lyrics as I played them by ear; feel free to point out any errors.

Right now I'm not sure what this song yet.

But the title Misearbile Visule- which means in latin: a terrible event

and Ex Malo Bonum- Which means in latin: out from bad comes good

The line says...A man is coming in 13:1 (as in Revelation 13:1) which is the introduction of the beast in Revelation at the end of the world.

I'm gonna take a crack at it....

In the gospel of John, we are warned of false prophets and false priests at the end of the world. The red priest (bad priest) is a false priest who is talking about miracles by a man raised in the sea which is mentioned in Revelation 13:1. A man is coming in 13:1...Revelation 13:1 says "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy." It is clear that the lyrics are talking about the antichrist because the antichrist will pretend to be Jesus Christ and is coming to "charm the daughters and the sons" as in God's children. The chorus is obviously talking about the end of the world. The second verse is very poignant. The eyes will open of those involved. This is either referencing the verse where every knee will bow when Jesus comes back or it's just saying that those involved will be aware of the deceit being pulled. The part where he says, Don't take this son, but you'll be killed by the man from seven hills. The line is referencing the mark of the beast which will supposedly give wisdom but all who wear the mark will blaspheme Christ. The man from seven hills is again the beast. The seven hills are the seven heads which the beast has. The bridge brings some comfort...Look children to the eastern sky. Jesus is supposed to appear in the eastern sky when he returns. When the ghosts take hold of men who died. This references either angels or demons taking the souls of the bodies in the graves. When your fathers weep and your mothers cry. Adults are responsible for their actions...Children are innocent. So some adults will not enter the kingdom of heaven, but children are innocent and will not have to suffer. I think this is probably the deepest and most spiritual song I've ever heard from any band and Anberlin are very bold to do this as a secular band.

Well bustinloose I'm gonna take your word for it, and if that's the truth (which I assume it is) this is one of the deepest and heaviest songs I've ever heard like you said. This is just a very powerful song, wow.

Also, I think the first time he says bad priest. It could be red but the first time it really sounds like bad. The second time, it is obvious that it is red though.

Yah, bustinloose is totally correct, except for the part about children...they're only innocent when they don't know the difference between right and wrong. I've always felt like children are innocent until they're old enough to register good and bad. But, that's neither here nor there. It's definitely the most spiritual song I've heard and a bold move since Anberlin is such a secular band, but Christian (I assume wrote it) does a great job of masking things, like the "ghosts take hold of the men who died" I guess if someone listens to the song with a carnal mind it makes no sense.

The majority of the songs on this album are spiritual, some in greater context than others...I guess that's a reason why it's called "New Surrender" :)

Dynamite Jenkins, Anberlin is everything but a secular band. Listen to songs such as Paperthin Hymn and *Fin deeply to see that Anberlin throws in Christian lyrics subtlely

in the technical sense, they are a secular band with Christian member(s). but anywhoo, it's a good ending to the album.. didn't know it was speaking of Revelation until I read these lyrics. pretty cool.

i think bustinloose has it down pretty good...except for one thing....i dont think the red priest represents the anti christ..i think he represents one of the prophets/priests that is said to come in revelation 11 to warn people and prophesy about the anti christ..because he says "Child, now don't forget
The sun will turn dark very soon
Your days are numbered when there's blood on the moon

"The earth will shake and the sky will fall
The eyes will open of those involved
Don't take the sign (thats what it really is i think), but you'll be killed
By the man from seven hills"

he is warning not to take the sign of the beast/anti christ before he takes his last breath...the beast is said to come from the sea and kill the 2 prophets...so i think that bustinloose has it perfect on everything but that...

ya, like contra said I too think it's "don't take the sign" and i'm also pretty sure it's "the eyes will open of those enthralled".

I sounds like he say

"What disasters may come
Whatever it may be
At the end of the age
It will end you and me
What tragedy may bring
Whatever may fall
At the end of the world
You'll still belong"

I'd agree with everything that bustinloose says; except that perhaps the bridge does not refer to children in the literal sense, rather, it refers to Jesus' statement that "unless you become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 18:3). A child trusts completely in its father; in this case, the 'children' represent those who trust wholeheartedly in Christ.
The 'fathers' and 'mothers' might therefore refer to our leaders who did not hold a relationship with Jesus as the most important thing in life, who call to the mountains and the rocks "fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne" (Revelation 6:16).
There's my two cents. Love to hear any other opinions.

I pretty much agree with bustinloose, except for the part about children..But anywho, I didn't realize that the word "thirteen-one" referred to a Bible verse. This song is an awesome way to retell the story in Revelation. I love anberlin!! :DD

I agree with Bustinloose and PurpleDee.

This song is really good! the bridge gives me goosebumps. I'm a christian and I believe that the events in the book of Revelation will happen someday and the bridge just makes it feel all the more real. Great song.

I'd like to add something about the children thing. I agree with the children being those with child like faith. That will be our last opportunity to say good bye to those on earth.
"When the ghosts take hold of the men who died"
This is talking about the resurrection of the dead when all will be judged
"When your fathers weep and your mothers cry"
The Bible also says that not everyone will be taken and that some will be left, maybe a husband is taken and a wife is left. But i think this means more about those who do not have a childlike faith. On this day they will realize the ideas they regarded as a child's fantasy are fact

Bustinloose, I think you got it. The only confusion that I have is that the red preist seems to be the anti-Christ in the first verse, but then it seems to be someone different, someone of God in the second verse. Not sure how to take that. This is my least favorite of the "epic" tracks, musically, and my favorite lyrically. Disasters may come ... the end of the age ... you'll still belong.

Praise God that we are His.

Yeah bustinloose pretty much has it. Here's what the lyric "A man is coming in 13:1" is referencing.

The Book of Revelations 13:1 says "And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea.And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name."

So, this probably doesn't mean much in context to the song, but I looked up red priest and there was a Venetian priest who was known as "the red priest" (apparently because of his red hair) and he was a composer and virtuoso violinist. So there ya' go.
Great song by the way.
Ethan.

i immediately noticed a lot of biblical references in this song and thought i would share them.
at first i thought the red priest was a bad guy, but now i think it could be refering to Jesus. Jesus is called our high priest in the book of Hebrews. And it just makes sense for Him to be described as Red because of His sacrifice. also Jesus actually did give warnings about the end times before He died. This passage is Matthew 24.
In this passage Jesus talks about how there will be wars (he declared the war), and about how false christs will lead many astray, even the elect (charm the daughters and the sons), the sun will be darkened (the sun will turn dark very soon), he also mentions the moon will not give its light. He also talks about earthquakes and the stars falling out of the sky (the earth will shake and the sky will fall).
Revelation 13:1 is the first appearance of the Beast (antichrist) in Revelation. He comes from the sea in John's vision.
Another interesting thing is that the seven hills is traditionally a reference to Babylon and correlates with the seven heads of the beast.
I found 3 passages that talk about a blood moon. (Joel 2:31, Acts 2:20, and Revelation 6:12).
Matthew 24:27 talks about lightning coming from the Eastern sky right before Jesus returns. The sign of the Son of Man will also appear in the sky.
and i believe the ghosts taking hold of the men who died could be a reference to the bodily ressurection of believers, but i don't have a reference for that yet.
Those are just my thoughts. I believe some of them are quite accurate because they are almost direct quotes.

Oh, how i just love lyrics by anberlin.. so deep in their meanings, its pure poetry.. especially this song.. one which startled me was the line "a man is coming from 13-1", never knew that it could mean revelations 13:1.. however, to be honest i dont quite like the tune of this song, its kinda monotonous.. sorry to say that probably anberlin was tryin to make this song as epic as *fin( its such a long song and yet its lyrics and lovely tune captivates listeners), but failed miserably..Sorry to those who really love this song, its such a waste that this lyrics is probably the best one from their songs..
But overall i think anberlin EFFING rocks and its the first band that got me all exited to actually buy an album..may GOD bless them..

I love this song. I think that it is the best epic so far. The lyrics make it. It is so encouraging to listen to. It is totally apocolyptic and yet there is so much hope in it also. There is hope in warnings. I love the last part. Look children to the eastern sky. Very encouraging. Not jsut for the Apocalypse

A few points to clarify what I believe this song means.

Many people believe that the seven heads that Revelation refers to are the seven hills of Rome, i.e. The Vatican. It geographicly sits on top of seven hills. The papal docterine has consistantly placed the decrees of the pope on par with pronouncements of God within scripture. This is what we call blasphemy.

The Red Priest:
The Red priest is referancing the False Prophet (he will introduce the beast to the world).
We know that the great whore of Babylon is discribed to be clothed in scarlet (like crimson red). If you ever see processions in the vatican (mass), you'll notice all of the priests are wearing scarlet. ewww!

A man is coming in thirteen one:

Interesting wording isnt it? Why did he word it this way? i think i know.
This could be an obviouse referance to either a biblical text, as has been previousely stated or it could have dual meaning (which I think is the case).

Thirteen and one or "Thirteen Plus One" is a new world order set of guide-lines created to subject all of the world governments to pressure into all joining a coalition. It has already been introduced as a world policy that nations must sign on to, in order to prevent global warming. However the actual guidelines of the reform are far more reaching than just global warming prevetion policies. You can research this by googleing: A Comparison of Global Climate Policy Architectures

So, I think it is quite interesting that 13:1 or 13plus1 both have strong referances to a one world aim.

Linsdeal posted refering to the ressurection of the dead. essentially saying, some would be left behind. However the artist has placed that AFTER...
What disasters may come
Whatever it may be
At the end of the age
It will land you and me
What tragedy may bring
Whatever may fall
At the end of the world
You'll still belong
The song may be refering to the ressurection of the dead, but only after the end of the world. If this is biblical or not, is something even scholars still debate. i.e. pre, mid, post-tribulation

Thus, obviousely he is post tribulation. I also sign on to this view. I don't believe that anyone will be spared from the tribulation.

"When you hear the voice say your last goodbyes":
Another band has referanced this same notion (which I think is the most beautiful part of the song, also it has my favorite melody found in the song). Blindside (the band) has refered to this moment when basicly they look back at the world they're leaving forever and say goodbye. I got the exact same sense when i heard anberlin speak of it.

Again, this is simply how I've heared it. Most of what I've read from other posters has been great.

ha if you guys only knew that Revelation is directed to the people of Johns time. It is commonly misinterpreted. it is about the fall of Jerusalem in 70 ad by the romans. study your hebrew before you just make claims that someone told you is true
