Lay where you're laying
Don't make a sound
I know they're watching
Watching

All the commotion
The kiddie like play
It has people talking
Talking

You
Your sex is on fire

The dark of the alley
The breaking of day
Head while I'm driving
I'm driving

Soft lips are open
Them knuckles are pale
Feels like you're dying
You're dying

You
Your sex is on fire
Consumed
With what's to transpire

Hot as a fever
Rattle of bones
I could just taste it
Taste it

If it's not forever
But there's just tonight
Oh we're still the greatest
The greatest
The greatest

You
Your sex is on fire
You
Your sex is on fire

Consumed
With what's to transpire

And you
Your sex is on fire
Consumed
With what's to transpire

Nathan: I think that the song is about... sex.

Caleb: Some people might think that the lyrics are corny... but if you've ever had really good sex, I don't think it's corny.

Nathan: I don't know where Caleb got the lyrics for that one, cos I'm pretty sure he's saving himself for marriage. So I would probably say it's more a song of fantasy, like how he imagines it will go. But he's on to something, cos it's only a minute and a half song and he apologizes at the end.

    Haha love these boys.

When Caleb was being interviewed he said it was about how he was in a relationship at the moment and the sex part of it was really really good, so I think it's just a celebration of that

    My Interpretation

From what I've been reading in the comments and also reading the lyrics to hearing the song, it just sounds like straight up sex in public.

"Lay where you're laying, Don't make a sound, I know they're watching, They're watching" (sounds like they are doing it on the ground somewhere and are trying to not get caught or they are not hidden well enough, yet he is trying to make sure the coast is clear for them to move and get dressed)

"All the commotion, The kiddie-like play, Has people talking, Talking" (kind of like groping or serious touchy flirting action right after sex and making people gossip/talk about what they are witnessing)

"The dark of the alley, The break of the day, The head while I'm driving, I'm driving" (most certainly about getting head in random places in public. Its also about road head too)

"Soft lips are open, Knuckles are pale, Feels like you're dying, You're dying" (this is about the girl reaching orgasm at this point. she is grasping for air and probably gripping the bed sheets while its happening)

"Hot as a fever, Rattling bones, I can just taste it, Taste it" (its about him having the best sex he has ever had with this girl. how he can just taste the pleasure like its lingering in the air from how good it feels)

"If it's not forever, If it's just tonight, Oh, it's still the greatest, The greatest, The greatest" (sounds like either its a long distance relationship, a FWB, or a one night stand, but he is saying its the best sex he has ever had)

You can tell that is about sex, especially if you ever had some really amazing sex before, you can put the pieces together to know what he is really talking about...

after watching the video, i think i get what the song is about (or maybe they just wanted to base the video on something compleatly different from the meaning of the song) but i think its about deadly sins, as sex could be a sin, as theyre not married, & how jared slaps matthew in the video, envy or anger, & how matt eats throughout the vid, glutteny, & overall, how possessed caleb is al through it. Lol. but maybe thats just the video (:

    Song Meaning

I personaly dont think that this wonderful and great song is about sex. I think its about rehabing from drug abuse.

If you look at the video, the vocalist (Caleb Followill) is twisting and turning in a bed while beeing sweaty and disorientated, and almost has a panic expression on his face. All of this is very simular to the "hotel room rehab method"

All the way through the video is a struggle for Caleb. The other members in the band are holding him down in his bed, meening that they are there to help him through his rehabilitation.

All through out the video there are small hints of things that you cannot do while beeing in that perticular situation. Things like, eating, not sleeping, passing out, praying, beeing paroniod etc.

Even the title of the song gives it away alittle. Sex on Fire, wich could very well be about the so called "drugfever" that you go through while rehabilitating. "Sex" the drugs "On Fire" the fever.

At the timelaps 03.00 in the video (youtube.com/watch) Caleb rises up out of his bed and lets black smoke come out of his mouth wich i think stands for the end of the addiction and that he now is clean.

Theses are just some random thoughts of mine, BUT REMEMBER! Your thoughts and feelings about what you think the video is about and means to you is very important. So if you dont agree with me, tell me what you think its about! I would love to hear what you think!!

    KOL 4 Ever!

    Song Meaning

I am not sure, but I think it may have something to do with receiving road head. I mean, the lyrics in the verses: I mean, he says I know their watching, their talking. Like people driving next to them can see whats happening. Then he goes on to say "IN the dark of the ally, break of the day, the Head while Im driving..." It is almost creepy how much it sould ike it when you link the two. "soft lips are open"...duh.. "Knuckles are pale" griping the steering wheel tight due to orgasm. "Feels like your dying" the intensity of the act... I can go on and on. I dont mean to sound all nasty, but I am convinced that this song (which I love by the way) is about getting road head. What do you think??

    My Interpretation

My boyfriend thinks that it's about getting head in a car because of the lyrics:

The dark of the alley The break of the day The head while I'm driving I'm driving

Which kind of makes sense, lol.

It's about rape. Lay where you're laying

    Don't make a sound I know they're watching They're watching

Telling the victim to not move or make a sound while the act is being done.

Soft lips are open Knuckles are pale

Soft lips of the victim being hit by clinched fist of the attacker.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
