What if I said yes
What if I'd gone out that night
What if you'd turned left
Everything would've turned out alright
What if I'd spoke up
What'd if I'd took the keys
What if I had tried a little harder instead of always trying to please

Joey I'm so sorry
Oh oh can you hear me
Joey I'm so sorry

What if I'd said no
What if we'd never fell in love
What if we'd gone slow
Or a little bit faster and broken up

Would I know this hurt
Would I feel this pain
Do you know that with all I have left in my very last breath I will call your name

Joey I'm so sorry
Oh oh can you hear me
Joey I'm so sorry

Were you sad
Were you scared
Did you whisper a prayer to be free
Was it quiet and cold
Was it light or too dark to see
And did you reach for me

Joey I'm so sorry
Oh oh can you hear me
Joey I'm so sorry

Oh oh can you hear me
Joey I'm so
Joey I'm so, sorry

Song Meaning:It's about a teenage girl who lost her boyfriend one night after a party she didn't go too because she was mad at him, so he had to drive himself home and it ended up ending his life. She goes on to talk about how bad she feels for letting it happen and she takes some responsibility into her own hands and is crying out for him still because if she had gone or invited him to her house instead of going to the party things would have turned out different and she wouldn't be hurting and he would still be here with her.

Memory:This song definitely hits a lot of people in Harford County, Maryland, a boy named Joey D'Entremont was killed in a car accident when he was crossing the street he passed away only a few months ago he was only a freshman at Fallston high school. Everyone around was crushed and devastated to hear about the loss, everyone around Forest Hill and Bel Air really got together to honor his memory. He'll never be forgot and this song is great for the situation. Joey D'Entremont. #30. R.I.P. <3

Memory:This song makes me cry everytime. My mom just lost her boyfriend, Joey. He had a heart attack at the age of 46.. It wasn't a car accident but it still means so much. She dated him when they were in highschool and they found eachother again later in life. I feel like this is how my mom feels.. like what she wishes she could say to him.

Memory:There was a 17 year old boy who was from around where I live and he died this past summer, before his senior year, in a drunk driving accident. His best friend was the driver, and she was drunk. She survived. When I hear this song it makes me think of what she might have/still is thinking. His name was Joey.

General Comment:Did anyone notice that she sings about Joey again in "Everyday America". I can see it must have been a high school elationship. Jennifer Nettles has one of the best vocals in music in my opinion, and this song is one of my favorites, especially when she performs it live.

Song Meaning:This could be the saddest song ever written. Of course I feel bad for the person who died, but I feel even worse for the person left behind - the one singing the song. She's blaming herself for something that was not her fault. Maybe he would have been alive if she had done SOMETHING different, but that doesn't make what happened her fault. She feels so passionately that this accident was her fault when it wasn't and that is what makes this song so sad for me.

My take aways from this song: Don't blame yourself for things that aren't your fault and tell people you love just how much you love them.

General Comment:hmm, so the guy in the song dies? I figured he was in a coma because of the line "can you hear me" and "do you know that with all i have left in my very last breath i will call your name"

I hope Jennifer nettles doesn't feel as guilty about it as she comes across in this song.
