Lyrics for Death Will Never Conquer as interpreted by Ah Me Audrey

Death Will Never Conquer Lyrics
If sweet death should ever come for me
Let me know, boys, let me know
If you hear him coming, won't you let me flee
Let me go, boys, let me go

One day death is gonna conquer me
I'll be down where the waters flow
I hope sweet heaven is the place for me
Let me know, boys, let me know

If sweet death should ever come for me
Take me down to some place below
If you hear him coming won't you set me free
Let me go, boys, let me go

If you hear him coming, won't you sing for me?
That I just don't want to go.

I just downloaded this earlier this morning; it is absolutely amazing! My friend said it sounded churchy, but to me, it sounds like something soldiers would have sung back in World War II. For whatever reason, the scene in Band of Brothers, where a company of Army soldiers were singing as they drove down a dusty path in Europe, came to mind. I love it. Is this an original song? I wonder what the motivation behind it was? I wish it was on Viva La Vida, but I'm content regardless. =]

It definitely has a gospel-y (if not churchy) feel to it. Especially the lines

One day death is gonna conquer me
I'll be down where the waters flow
I hope sweet heaven is the place for me

It sounds like something right out of a bluegrass or gospel song. Maybe even a slave spiritual. That sets up an interesting metaphor- slave to slave hunter and human to Death. I don't know if it is an original or not but it is good as always.

Coldplay, from time to time has used a sort of American southern sound, like in Til Kingdom Come, or Green Eyes (a little bit), but this is very evident of that style.

Great song!

It does sound very gospely to me, also very reminiscent of Ray Charles or Van Morrison. Perhaps a tribute to one of the them, like Til Kingdom Come was for Johnny Cash?

I find this is VERY similar to Now My Feet Won't Touch The Ground, lyrics-wise. Anyone else think this could have been an earlier/alternative version of it?

It's a great song, I love Will Champion singing it.
Obviously, it's all about death and the fact that the singer doesn't want to die, and is asking his friends not to let him die should the time come. However, he also seems to be saying that at some point death is inevitable, that he doesn't wnat his friends to be unhappy at his death, and he just wants to be placidly happy in death.

I can just imagine a British soldier singing this to himself in a WWI trench, just before the Germans start attacking.
