Eyeballs float in wet green grass
I got a chainsaw motor that's filled with rain, proof
When it sings like bach with eyes all bulging
When the pink sun drops the eyelids fold
While I'm in deep REM sleep or twilight zones
I take a freight elevator and press fast forward
I get to grind these teeth and beat through time
If I could bring things back they'd be that WILD
When I saw the future the Geeks were right
Egghead boys with thin white legs
They got modified features with software brains
But that's what the girls like, the geeks were right
When I saw the future the Geeks were right
Predator skills, chemical wars, plastic islands at sea
Watch what the humans ruin with machines
Eyeballs float in wet green grass
I'm in a chainsaw choir and dreams
That bend that let me cut through time and stretch out bach
I make the dry eyes roll and wet eyes cross
While I'm in deep REM sleep or twilight zones
I take the freight elevator and press fast forward
So I can grind these teeth and beat through time
If I could bring things back they'd be that wild
When I saw the future the Geeks were right
I got a chainsaw motor that's filled with rain, proof
When it sings like bach with eyes all bulging
When the pink sun drops the eyelids fold

The first line about could be about lying in the grass fantasizing about the future, maybe discovering how to make hydrogen based fuel and becoming rich.
The second lines reference to REM sleep (dreams at night) OR twilight zone (day dreaming) making the distinction between the two states where he thinks about the future where he and the other geeks were right.
The third line goes into his social frustration where in high school girls tended to ignore him but in his future an egghead and thin, pasty legs are found attractive and he will be popular and desirable.
The fourth line or break maybe be referring to latent fears about the possibility that there will not be a future because humans are destroying the earth.
I know there are some gaps in my theory such as the refers to Bach and pink sun, but its a song so some poetic license and more complex or personal symbolism is to be expected.
Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep is a normal stage of sleep characterized by the rapid movement of the eyes. REM sleep in adult humans typically occupies 20–25% of total sleep, about 90–120 minutes of a night's sleep. During a normal night of sleep, humans usually experience about four or five periods of REM sleep; they are quite short at the beginning of the night and longer toward the end. REM sleep is physiologically different from the other phases of sleep, which are collectively referred to as non-REM sleep (NREM). Vividly recalled dreams mostly occur during REM sleep.
No? Alright then.
What few people have yet to come up with is that, in looking at the song, perhaps it isn't a person from NOW looking into the future, but someone from before now, gazing past us into the future we haven't gotten to. This can be heard in "When it sings like Bach/The eyeballs bulge/When the pink sun drops/The eyelids fold". Few people realize that, in certain sound chips for the Commodore 64, songs of Bach were used as sound bytes, referencing "when it sings like Bach" to mean someone gazing intently at a computer screen as many geeks do. When the sun goes down, it is time to sleep, right? And the sun is red at night, but for someone who has been inside all day, the blue spectrum is one which has been seen while red hasn't, so red appears as pink due to the influx of color. "When the pink sun drops/The eyelids fold" means the person has fallen asleep.
"When I'm in deep REM sleep or Twilight Zones" refers to a time when the person is sleeping deep enough to not notice the morning light (Twilight Zone has more than one meaning, people...the line that comes over land when illuminated by the sun, dividing night and day). "I take the freight elevator and press fast forward" Refers to a time machine used by the person in dreaming, in order to reach the future and carry things back to the past (possibly ideas, but the use of a freight elevator refers to heavy objects).
"Egghead boys with thin, white legs" sounds like any stereotypical nerd. The person/nerd is watching nerds of the future fiddle about with random things that he cannot explain completely ("I've got a chainsaw motor that's filled with rain" referring to an alternative fuel source, such as a hydrogen cell).
The rest, a lot of people get. Apart from the "Chainsaw choir". When you listen to it, though, it sounds more like "Chain saw choir", which would refer to many Saws being played at the same time (musical instrument). With the next line holding "And stretch out Bach", this could be the sound of many computers being used at the same time.

and i'm not sure if this part is correct or if i'm too over-analysing, but the dream motif is also perhaps reinstated in "If I could bring things back They'd feedback wild". WILD, or a wake-initiated lucid dream is when a person is awake but then slips into a lucid dream-like state. so when he 'visits the future' in his dreams, he is aware of the fact that he is dreaming and so is somewhat able to control his actions in his dream, and in doing so tries to bring back the new technologies but when he does is only met with the fact that the items only exist in his dreamworld and can't be moved into the real world?
also another reference "In dreams that bend To let me cut through time" as in the dreams bend/break the regular standards of dreams by thrusting him forward in time?
and then in between that is what everyone else had said about how the exploitation of technology is leading us into a grim future.
oh and i also agree with Miserable at Best, for every single song on here there's always at least one person who has to say that its about drugs! i think people need to look deeper into songs rather than just disregard abstract lyrics as the nonsensical ramblings of a drug-induced high.
Say the initial state of some technology in the present is X, then the state of that technology in the future is X + 1. So if he could bring an example of future technology back to the present, scientists would be like, oh shit and present technology would immediately advance to X + 1. Which would mean that by the time the future he travelled to rolls around, the technology has advanced from X + 1 to X + 2, so the object he brought back was more advanced...
Classic feedback loop right? Maybe that's what he means it's an interesting thought
