Lyrics for Second Chance as interpreted by pharmdoc299

Second Chance Lyrics
My eyes are open wide, by the way
I made it through the day.
I watch the world outside, by the way
I'm leaving out today.
I just saw Hailey's Comet she waved
Said, "why are you always running in place?
Even the man in the moon disappeared
somewhere in the stratosphere."

Tell my mother, tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize this is my life
I hope they understand.
I'm not angry, I'm just saying
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

Please don't cry one tear for me
I'm not afraid of what I have to say.
This is my one and only voice
so listen close, it's only for today.
I just saw Hailey's Comet she waved,
Said, "why are you always running in place?
Even the man in the moon disappeared
somewhere in the stratosphere."

Tell my mother, tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize this is my life
I hope they understand.
I'm not angry, I'm just saying
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

Here is my chance
This is my chance!

Tell my mother, tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize this is my life
I hope they understand.
I'm not angry, I'm just saying
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance,
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance,
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.

From what I've heard off the "The Sound of Madness" this song sounds like it'll be one of the best songs on the new CD by Shinedown, and one of their best ever. Brent mentioned this was one of the toughest songs he's ever written because it's about him saying goodbye to his parents... having to move on with his own life and become a man, to live out his dreams. Powerful song... deserves to be a monstrous hit for them.

This song is so beautiful and its definitely one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to seeing this on the radio along with Devour and The Crow and the Butterfly!

I've updated the lyrics to match what's in the liner notes from the CD. The saying goes bands typically release their best CDs on their third attempt (debuts are always good, sophomore efforts usually lack a little bit). This holds true for Shinedown. The Sound of Madness is their best CD to date... thanks mostly in part to this song, Devour, the Crow and the Butterfly, Breaking Inside, and Call Me. Hopefully these guys are coming to MN soon so I can check them out live!

Dude rep. the MN, and they are coming to the Myth in Maplewood August 6th. I was just going to say that this song has a very Audioslave feel for me in it.

first, this is my favorite song off this cd. no doubt.

i heard somewhere (i think it was their site) that this was Brent's hardest song ever to write because it was about telling his parents to just let go of him and let him live his own life. he is trying to tell them that in order for him to be happy he needs them to let him go and let him do what he wants. and telling him goodbye is giving him a 'second chance' to do that.

I absolutely adore this song, but I am a little bit throw by the Hayley's comet reference... What exactly is it supposed to mean? Perhaps it could mean that he has been stable and acting the same way for so long... Meh, I don't know.

Matchett, The only thing I can get from the Hayley's comet reference is that since it can only be seen every 75-76 years, that he saw it and realized that like you said, he's been acting the same way for so long, or that his parents have held on to him for too long.

Anyways, amazing song.

I still think 'Leave a Whisper' was their best album, but this song is beautiful. It fits so perfectly with my life as I will be leaving for college on the other side of the country in August.

I think the Comet part is more saying he saw a shooting star moving on to greater things and it had to leave the man in the moon behind at some point for it to continue on.

Fantastic song. The line "sometimes goodbye is a second chance" sums it up for me. It's about leaving behind something you love, but you're doing it so you can be a better person when you come back and erase all your previous flaws.

Correction: Halley's Comet. No biggie just thought I would throw it in. =3

First off: I cried.

This song just means he wants his parents to let him go but they won't. And he's sorry, but he has to do what's best for him and just become his own person.

Doesn't it seem like a new song fits your life situation perfectly sometimes?

Beautiful song, in my mind it ranks right up there with "Blackbird" by Alter Bridge. You can really tell how strongly the singer feels. IMO, the best songs are always the ones where the singer clearly feels strongly about the subject.

I saw these guys in concert when they were at the myth... Amazing concert. I gained so much more respect for them after seeing them live. The lead singer said this was the hardest song he has ever had to write because of how emotional the subject was to him. He said that it is about leaving his parents for something better. The first time I heard the song i was just in awe of how powerful the lyrics are. It really touched me

I just heard this song for the first time today, and I LOVE it. I've just listened to it three times in a row, and I don't think I'm finished hearing it yet.

I love when he sings, "I just saw Halley's Comet...", just the way he sounds... I love his voice.

For some reason, when I first heard it, I thought it was about suicide. I'm not really sure why, I might just be in a dark frame of mind, and that's just what I would automatically think of. I can also see the other interpretation about him having to leave his parents, and I'm surprised that wasn't my first thought, since I'm about to move across the country from my family.

Either way, this is still a great song.

Desaparecida I thought it was about suicide to at first. It does kinda fit into that sort of thing.

Anyway this band is amazing and always has the most powerful lyrics. And his voice just tops it off. I love his voice its nice and manly hahaha.

Anyway very good song.

It sounds like...."I just saw Hailey's Comet SHOOTING not she wave"
Said, "why are you always running in place?

just my perception....I know its she waved but when I hear it it sounds like shooting. What do you hear?

This song seems to be about somebody wanting to go after a dream or failed attempt but in order to do that they have to say goodbye to the people their close to. Basically their saying that its their life, their choices and a second chance at whatever was holding them back.

Damn song, I can't stop rocking out when they sing about haley's comet.

This song is about being birthed by Aliens, then having to find work as an alien baby and the only place that will hire you is McDonalds. Then the alien baby gets sick form eating too many big macs and then goes back to the moon.

I never knew it was about his family however for me this song has been about my battle with suicide/depression, and me wanting to leave and say good bye to everyone.

Its interesting and a good proof this is a good song that so many views can be made from it.

Good luck, have fun.
