This empty space cannot be filled
Your kind words bleed right through me
And I could cry but I’d only lose my tears
Just another form of release
Release what – I’m empty
You could pass your hand right through my body
And touch the wall behind me
But who, for all my emptiness,
Who would have the strength to lift me up?
My faith in mortal man is badly bruised
The gods have proven to be deaf
Or else they have a perverse sense of humor
Apparently these are European gods
For there is nothing funnier than a fat man in a tutu.

General Comment:the tutu is the sort of dress that allows the legs full motion and display as an ordinary dress or hanging skirt would not allow.
Dancer wore them out of convention to have the required woman's dress

Most men don't have the strength for lifting their partners.

here, emillie claims to be empty

General Comment:I love the way Emilie read this poem on her "Your Sugar Sits Untouched" cd. The only thing that I really thought took away from the frightening sense of this poem is the last two lines. This poem doesn't really need the last two lines, well at least I think so.
