Lyrics for Highly Suspicious as interpreted by Jurassic Parker

Highly Suspicious Lyrics
Wasting time home alone dotting your "i's".
Peanut butter pudding surprise!
Ain't nobody care what's going on in your mind-
but they got they eye on your prize...
I'm highly suspicious of you.

Now daddy's got you home alone- solving your crimes.
Peanut butter pudding surprise!
Ain't no jokin', smokin', strokin', tapping your lines-
Peanut butter pudding surprise!

I'm highly suspicious of you.

Wasting all your time on drama, could be solving real crime
waste away your mind too...

I'm highly suspicious of you.
I'm highly suspicious. Highly suspicious of you.

How could you concider yourself a big fan and not allow the band to do their thing? Yes, this song is quite different, but I can't get enough of it. It's what makes mmj so great, theyre more than just another rock band.

The first comment is just stupid.
Anyway, I heard Jim James say in an interview that he just made up some scenario where the British police were searching from a young British girl. The falsetto is the young british girl and the deep voice is the police who are looking for information on her and trying to catch her for some crime.
It's weird, I know, but that's why MMJ is so great.

i heard this song on the radio a couple times, and i never knew who it was. to be honest, i thought it was prince for a while.
then i bought the cd, simply because mmj is a solid band and i wanted to hear what they were up to these days, and i flipped my shit when i heard this song on the cd.

that aside, this song reminds me of getting fucked up, the "tapping your lines" bit especially.
and then the bit about "wasting all your time on drama, could be solving real crimes" reminds me of how pointless and counterproductive the war on drugs [especially marijuana] is.
not to mention the references to shit going on in people's heads.

and if THAT didn't give it away, listen to jim's vocals when the backup vocals start "highly suspicious"ing.
jim james never actually says "highly suspicious."
"i'm hiiiighh [highly suspicious of you]"
he's just saying he's high.
then, before the solo or whatever, he says "i'm hiiiiiighhhh" and goes into a fit of laughter.

and i'm not one of those people who thinks every song is about drugs. seems to me that most of the songs on Evil Urges are actually about sex.

oh, and if you think this is "such a crappy song," why don't you listen to the guitars, dipshit?

I totally agree with sable Jester, he's just saying he's high.
I think the "highly suspicious" thing is about smoking-weed-paranoia.

By the way, what is to "dot your i's"? Anyone?

@balpo - "dot your i's" means to make sure you take care of all your loose ends, like a teacher telling her students to literally make sure they have all their letter i's dotted before they turn in their work,

The song's definitely about a drug-induced paranoid freakout and the "highly suspicious" parts are meant to be like British Constables pounding at the door, either in reality or in the person's head. I'm not the biggest fan of the song compared to the rest of their catalogue but it is different, I'll give them that.

When I first popped the cd into my computer to rip the songs into the media player when I reached Highly Suspicious all I could think was "what the hell is this?" After a couple failed attempts to make it through the song initially, I actually realized that this song is strangely awesome. It sounds as if it came straight out of the 80's and in my opinion is comedic in the way the falsetto and back up vocals make it a sort of "trip." The guitar is what finally made me like the song. The riff at 1:20 sounds kinda porn-tastic for some reason.

I'm with sable jester - Jim's "hiiiigh," but the backup vocal contrasts the giddiness with the paranoia. All good electro/beats songs should make you freak out a bit when you are baked, unlike rock which is generally comforting. This song touches on both. It is also arguably composed in the style of the little "songs" you hear inside your mind when you are heavily stoned... like Ween.

I too thought WTF when I heard this song, but now think it's fantastic and Jim James is absolutely brilliant. But I have no idea what it's about.

You have to take the song for what it is in itself.
Also try listening to the VHS or Beta Remix which I found quite good too.
