They were sitting
They were talking in the strawberry swing
Every moment was so precious

They were sitting
They were talking in the strawberry swing
Everybody was for fighting
Wouldn't wanna waste a thing

Cold, cold water
Bring me round
Now my feet won't touch the ground
Cold, cold water
What ya say?
It's such
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

I remember
We were walking up to strawberry swing
I can't wait 'til the morning
Wouldn't wanna change a thing

People moving all the time
Inside a perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna curve away
It's such
It's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day

Now the sky could be blue
I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time
Could be blue

I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time
Could be blue,
Could be grey
Without you I'm just miles away

Could be blue
I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time.

General Comment:Does anyone think the "it's such a beautiful day" part is an homage to Lou Reed?

General Comment:Producer Brian Eno provides the handclaps at the beginning of this number. Chris Martin told MTV News "If you listen very closely, you can hear him complaining about the tempo at the beginning of that song."

General Comment:I got what mostly everyone else did out of this song: the nostalgic feeling of looking back upon childhood as an adult.

I would like to point out the clapping sounds at the beginning, and how they are replaced by drums gradually. I think this is symbolic of how primitive turns into rhythmic and routine.

I believe the "strawberry" is not literal, but symbolic of the sweetness of being on swings as a child with his childhood crush.

Then I think he goes back to an adult perspective on the situation when he refers to "they" as he is referring to him and his childhood crush.

The cold water is symbolic of memories and the things they entail. His "feet won't touch the ground" because he is now grown up and unable to feel how he felt as a child. The alarm-ish sounding noise in the background of "It's such a perfect day" is a realization that he has woken up and gotten to see the world for the truth and not for its beauty.

He goes back to being a child in the fourth stanza.

In the fifth stanza, he is feeling really nostalgic. He is aware that things have changed and everything is "straight"; boring. He wants to change, do something childish.

When he says, "I don't mind" in reference to the sky, he is essentially saying that he doesn't care about anything, he doesn't see that "perfect day" anymore without her. He wants to feel that perfect day again, but he can't do it without her.

General Comment:if u think about it the way i do then read through the lyrics, u could probably interpret the rest the way i would so im not going to break down every single line here i got homework to complete, and miles to go before i sleep, and miles to go before i sleep.

General Comment:sorry to be a downer but it sounds like this song is him singing about his wife dying and he wants to join her. it seems too perfect to be something other than a dream or a memory that has cropped out everything negative about a day he and his wife spent together. he may realize that his dream or memory isnt perfectly accurate so he wants to make it accurate by killing himself or, if hes dying, accepting his death. it may be like that song "your beautiful" where, in the music video, he jumps into a freezing body of water to kill himself (cold water in the song) or the cold water could just be something that wakes him up from his perfect dream. the character might be tired of being taken away from his dream and he wants it to be permanent. curving away could be him singing to his thoughts of his wife or loved one and it could mean him leaving the real world for his imaginary one (lol inception), feet off the ground could mean the same thing. idk im not "emo" i just think this song has a dream-like sound and is a man narrating his dream or memory of he and his loved one. strawberry swing meaning just living life as best as any two people could

General Comment:When I hear this song I imagine a couple in the spring of their relationship, runnning through a field at about dusk hour. Everything is going right and it's just a moment in time to savour.

General Comment:I absolutely LOVE this song! Coldplay truly is amazing. Granted, some of their songs get kind of slow, but really they're quite inspiring.

When I first listened to this song I thought it was about the bliss of childhood, but as I listened I began to think it could also be about young love, or a first love.

"Every moment was so precious" is about the sweet, simplistic, innocent time they spend together. Their relationship is precious--childlike in a beautiful way.

"Now my feet won't touch the ground" reminds me of the feeling of weightlessness you receive when you're with the someone you love.

"It's such a perfect day" is repeated for emphasis. The days spent together are more than perfect.

"Wouldn't wanna change a thing" is showing how wonderful it seems to him (or her, I suppose), just the way it is.

    "People moving all the time
    Inside a perfectly straight line
Don't you wanna just curve away
    When it's such
When it's such a perfect day
It's such a perfect day" is a little more difficult to explain, but it makes me think that the rest if the world just seems so monotonous to him, and doesn't want to fall into the same trap as everybody else. He asks for the other to "curve away" with them, or make their life more lively or worthwhile and interesting. (Or when I thought this was about childhood, I took it as not wanting their pure, beautiful to be tainted by the world.)

"Now the sky could be blue
    I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time" speaks of how without her life and every action is pointless, and he can't live without her around.

I could very well be wrong. That's just my take on it.
