Lyrics for Death and All His Friends as interpreted by motbob

Death and All His Friends Lyrics
All winter we got carried
Away over on the rooftops
let's get married
All summer we just hurried
so come over, just be patient, and don't worry
So come over, just be patient, and don't worry

So come over, just be patient, and don't worry

And don't worry

No I don’t want to battle from beginning to end
I don’t want a cycle of recycled revenge
I don’t want to follow Death and all of his friends

No I don’t want to battle from beginning to end
I don’t want a cycle of recycled revenge
I don’t want to follow Death and all of his friends

And in the end
We lie awake, and we dream of making our escape

And in the end
We lie awake, and we dream of making our escape

This is my favourite track on Viva la Vida, the end where he's yelling is so awesome. Very uplifting i think. Johnny's guitar work is excellent.

Also i think the lyrics are:

"No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end"

instead of "end to end"

awesome begining to the song
it just kind of gets lost from the middle to the end
but still good.....
Its meaning is pretty simple I guess...
It's about enjoying life, leting go of your regrets
and stupid revenges...
It could also be against this ridiculous ' emo movement' that's been going on... hahaha
just my take on it

This is a great way to end the album. I really think it's the strongest track. My only complaint is that they should have went through the whole chant thing a few more times and made the end a little longer. It may have made it a little more epic and also they should have actually ended with that song, instead of doing that damn split/hidden track thing. Whatever though, I think the song rocks.

Lyrically I think this song is just about appreciating life for what it is. I think it goes hand in hand with the song "Viva La Vida" Both are pretty epic and kind of feel like a reflection on life.

I love this album, I personally think the meaning behind this song, is don't rush things... if you don't just wait it out, it can all go to waste, and start a "battle". If you worry too much, the same fate will occur. Take life day by day.

I love what this song has to say. After listening to all the other songs form the album, it culminates in this simple, beautiful song. It's just about being a good person and enjoying life as it comes.

This is one of my favourite tracks on the record. I agree with 'ihatehatehaters' in that the end chant could have gone on longer and been made epic, but there's always live shows for stuff like that, and also I always find with stuff like that, better to have way too little of a good thing than far too much...

Maybe I'm reading too much into the songs on this record, and I don't claim to know what's going on in Martin's private life, but a lot of the songs seem to possibly deal with his supposed relationship problems at the moment... a lot of the songs are about people 'rushing into relationships' and taking things too fast, which might have happened to him...

However, to me this final uplifting song is quite plainly saying 'we rushed into stuff and got married too fast and yes, perhaps that was a mistake, but everything's not lost (haha), just come over, be patient, don't worry, things will work themselves out'.

I definitely wish the chant would go on two more times. However, I also think that when songs of a REALLY good short moment like this one. Where it just makes you want to die it's so moving, it's better to have just a good enough taste. Cause you want more of it. So you listen to it again. I also think the ending is somewhat. . . out of character from the rest of the song. But who cares. It's incredible. Lyrically, I think it is a bit ambiguous. Which is perfect to me. It can mean whatever you want it to for you. Love it

for me it's not even the chant that should have gone longer (although it definitely WOULD have been better)
but i wish there was more variation on the last three chords that he plays throughout most of the song.

the bass plays Eb, Bb, and Ab. as Chris plays Eb, D and C in chords.
what I'm saying is they should have both played Eb, Ab, back to Eb and Eb, C, back to Eb respectively.
with the much needed G in there somewhere.

A musical resolution is needed in that song.
It's a completely great song and perfect ender but yeah. It needed an extra punch.

Chris Martin:
"Well, this is supposed to be the theme of the album, really. We're aware of all the bad stuff in life, you know — i.e. Death and all his friends — but that doesn't mean you should ever give in to it, you know? So we all sing that bit together really loudly, as kind of a message to ourselves: never giving up and never focusing on the bad stuff too much."

The beginning of this song has been with me ever since I heard it last week.

The lyrics [esp. the 1st verse] have such a deep meaning for me that I can't even begin to write it here...

"so come over, just be patient, and don't worry..."

I definitely agree that the beginning is about rushing into a relationship... "All winter, we got carried / All way over, on the rooftops, lets get married" These two people are so deeply in love that they're rushing through everything, and finally one of them has realized they need to slow down. "So come over, just be patient, and don't worry." The second part makes me think that rushing through the relationship has caused a battle between them... and now he's realized that it's silly to fight and they should mend their relationship: "No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end, I don't wan't a cycle of recycled revenge, I don't wanna follow death and all of his friends"

This is such a lovely song, I really love it. Has a lot of meaning to me.

Oh my goodness! I do believe that Coldplay has decided to use an asymmetrical time signature in this song! I'm pretty certain that the chant part of the song is in 7/4, and that is almost enough reason for me to like it alone. The new album really showcases Coldplay's musical intelligence. More so than anything else they've done before now. Great group of musicians, truly.

The first part is perfect love, which was taken too fast, and needs to be slowed down, pretty easy to see.
The next part is someone telling the other that they don't want the relationship to be ruined, they don't want go down that track of bitterness, and doesn't want things to end that way.
What I like about this song (and it's hidden track) is that the hidden track is very similar to the first (intro) song 'Life in Technicolor' so you can just listen to the album on loop, and the two ends blend into each other :)

this song is amazing. just amazing. so simple, probably the most simple on the entire album, but the most powerful. Does anybody else here echoes of The Beatles in "the escapist"? The "an in the end" part. I think we all know what the Beatles said at the end of Abbey Road. Could that be some kind of a slight tribute? It gives me chills.

That end chant is great...For so long, Coldplay songs have been so sad, the kind of music that keeps you company when you're feeling miserable and low...

And yeah, we all get into those dark moments, but to hear the guys who write about those dark moments best say that they don't want to be in that depressed hole forever...It's the perfect evidence that this is a new type of point of view for the band...

It's a tie with all of "Yes" for my favorite track of the album. I wish I could've heard this song about five months ago. I really could've used it.

Definitely one of the best songs on a near-perfect (maybe remove the near) album. The chanting is absolutely amazing.

c higgz, that's what i figured. When I first heard ''and in the end..'' i instantly thought it was a tribute to the beatles and abbey road. quite nice, i'm glad they did it
