You never heard me knocking on the door.
I found you balled up on your bathroom floor
You told me everything in your defense
and never understood the consequence
I won't console, when you have control, every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again.

There was a halo resting above your head but it slid down around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out cuz you think you're so clever.

So, now we're all grown up and settled down
and you're the only one thats livin' in this ghost town
try to keep in touch; at least pretend.
I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end

If there's a cause, it's already lost. cuz I tried the last and you tossed me aside again, but, it won't happen again...

There was a halo resting above your head but it slid down around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out cuz you think you're so clever.

My Interpretation:There was a halo resting above your head but it slid down around your neck
Adam loved this girl, and thought she was angelic, but something happened (maybe she cheated) and he didn't like her anymore

Anyway it's one of my favorite 7 seconds of music ever.

Song Meaning:i think this song is about a girl, cheating on her boyfriend and when she tells him and says sorry he leaves her. saying "i wont consol, when you have control" as in he wont forgive her when she has control of what she does. He wants to forgive her but he thinks she'll just do it again.

My Interpretation:I think this song is about attempted suicide/risking your life through drug abuse, and the effect it has on the narrator.

You never heard me knocking on the door
[because she was busy trying to kill herself/taking drugs]

I found you balled up on your bathroom floor
[where she lay after she attempted suicide/took drugs]

You told me everything in your defense
[She tried to defend her actions - giving reasons like "I've been driven to it, no-one cares about me"]

    And never understood the consequence
[She doesn't understand how her suidice attempts/drug addiction and her reasons for it hurt him because he does care]

I won't console, when you have control
[He won't help her if she chooses not to help herself]

Every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again.
    Yeah, you'll do it again
[She continbues to abuse drugs/attempt suicide or self harm]

There was a halo resting above your head then it slid down
[She was an angel before but changed. Also the halo is a reference to her dead, and the 'around your neck' is a reference to a noose - she's risking her life or trying to take it.]

Around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out 'cause
    You think you're so clever
[She thought the could hide her drug addiction/depression]

    Again and again and again
You'll do it again and again and again

So, now we're all grown up and settled down
[time lapse - she's grown up and out of her old habits]
And you're the only one thats livin' in this ghost town
[She's more alive than before because she tried to kill herself/risked her life before]
Try to keep in touch; at least pretend
I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end
[This is him explaining the impact her whole addiction/depression had on his relationship/friendship with her, because it is saying that they either broke up because of it or weren't as close friends as before, but he still has hope he can be good friends with her once more]

    If there's a cause, it's already lost
'Cause I tried the last time and you tossed me aside again
    But it won't happen again
[He's done trying to fix their relationship/friendship, or she's done refusing his help and his love]

Lyric Correction:I fixed the lyrics. Here they are revised:

You never heard me knocking on the door
I found you balled up on your bathroom floor
You told me everything in your defense
    And never understood the consequence
I won't console, when you have control
Every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again.
    Yeah, you'll do it again

There was a halo resting above your head then it slid down
Around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out 'cause
    You think you're so clever

    Again and again and again
You'll do it again and again and again

So, now we're all grown up and settled down
And you're the only one thats livin' in this ghost town
Try to keep in touch; at least pretend
I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end

    If there's a cause, it's already lost
'Cause I tried the last time and you tossed me aside again
    But it won't happen again

General Comment:I think this song is either about drug use or alcohol abuse. I mean if she's an alcoholic it would make sense that she would be on the bathroom floor, right? I don't think it's about cheating though, it doesn't make any sense. Another thing I think it might be about though is that his girlfriend is bulimic. She's on the bathroom floor after throwing up, "I won't console, when you have control, every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again"

My Interpretation:When I first heard it I thought he said "I found you both upon your bathroom floor"
So I thought it was about her cheating on him

Then I saw "balled up" and how people were saying they think it's about a girl who does drugs or something
and i think that makes sense too.

ooh && i love his voice on this one. its so pretty.

My Interpretation:I think that this song is about a christian's relationship with God.A backsliding christian..

"You never heard me knocking on the door."
-In the bible God knocks on a person's heart asking if he can come in and if the person lets him in that means that he or she accepts God as their Lord and saviour.

"I found you balled up on your bathroom floor"
-God always sees you when your in trouble or going through a tough time and he wants to help.

"You told me everything in your defense
    and never understood the consequence"
-You tell excuses to God in why you did what you did or try to blame someone else for why you did it. but you don't understand the thing that will happen because of that acton that you did

"I won't console, when you have control, every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again."
-the "i won't console, when you have control.." part, to me, it means that if Jesus is not the one guiding your life, he won't be able to help you or comfort you in your problems. and you will probably promise God that you won't do that sin again but he knows that if your flesh, not the spirit, is controlling your life then you will more likely than not, do that sin again.

"There was a halo resting above your head but it slid down around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out cuz you think you're so clever."
    - I think that this means that a person does a "secret sin" or something bad that he/she might think that no one will ever find out about.. so to everyone he/she is an angel (hence the halo) then when he/she committed the sin, the halo "..slid down.." And many people think that no one is looking when they committed that sin but God always knows..even though we try our hardest to hide it.. he knows..

"So, now we're all grown up and settled down
and you're the only one thats livin' in this ghost town"
-All person's friends left her/him but God was and is always there

"try to keep in touch; at least pretend.
I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end"

-The person prays to God but its just those memorized prayers or the person reads the bible but doesn'r really get anything out of it he/she just reads the Bble so he/she won't feel that guilty about the sin they commited. But God will always be there for him/ her until she realizes that all she needs is God and everything in her life will be straightened out. "fair-weathered friend i believe refers to a christian that only turns to God when they're life is good or praises and worships God when life is good then when its bad he/she blames God.

If there's a cause, it's already lost. cuz I tried the last and you tossed me aside again, but, it won't happen again...
    - God never gives up on you he keeps persisting but the person keeps putting God aside.. and kind of disregarding Him. but God knows that one day you will find the light.

THIS IS ONLY MY INTERPRETATION OF IT.. IT MAY BE WRONG.. SORRY IF ITS REALLY LONG.. I JUST WANTED TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING WELL..

General Comment:I completely agree with crazymango6,

"You told me everything in your defense
    and never understood the consequence"
Meaning, she tried to explain to him why she did what she did, refusing to believe what she did was so wrong, and she didn't understand why he was leaving her, or was mad at her, or was breaking up with her.
"every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again."
It's happened before, and he can't take it anymore, he's given her chance after chance, and he's given to her every time, but every time she goes and does the same thing. (Cheats.)
