Lyrics for Ahhmen as interpreted by aaron_kaump

Ahhmen Lyrics
starin' out the window of our tour bus,
and it's just the horny driver and us.
we sit and trade wit and smoke and we cuss,
talking 'bout our friendly border drug bust.
and i know the future's cloudy and grey,
record like mine, give up or go gay.
you're looking down at me with blue and black eyes,
spitting down a storm from purple night skies.

and i know the concept's muddy and trite,
that all that is large and all that is slight,
it's flowing in the stream of holy flood lights.
i've read the holy books, lord knows they bite.
but if this is your will and my testament,
i will bow in no believe that they bent.
still, i'm just a sperm begat from your love,
basking in the bread and the blood of one dove.

can i lie with you in your grave?

there's a crack in the edge of the end of the world,
where i will sit with my love in it's flourescent swirl.
eat us up, break it down to the tiniest cell.
in our room with a view of the window to hell-
where those who bury bodies will explain what they've done,
and march through museums that repel what they've done.
shot up through the sky by the cannon of sin,
who reluctantly let them in?

so can i lie in your grave?
can i lie with you in your grave.

eat a sub? what the fuck...

just things i picked up from max's answering sessions via his twitter.
@ummAndrew asks what the deepest song I've written is; probably ahhh men because it concerns god the afterlife redemption eternity etc
@Kozyspike to what extent "ahhh...men" is about god. it's about what i label as god but to other people may be just cosmic oneness
@myleswillsaveus asks if a particular song i wrote helped save my life; i wrote ahhh...men in a dark time in my life and it helped a lot
@RobertLaffoon asks what the most honest song on the record is; probably crush'd or ahhh...men

I'm pretty sure that the spoken part goes like this:
(seriously minor corrections)

there's a crack in the edge at the end of the world,
where i will sit with my love in it's fluorescent swirl.
eat us up, break it down in the tiniest cell.
in our room with a view and a window to hell-
with those who bury bodies and the barrels of fun,
who will march through museums that display what they've done.
they'll be shot up through the sky by the cannon of sin,
who will reluctantly let them in

so can i lie in your grave at edge of the end of the world
where i will sit with my love in it's fluorescent swirl.
eat us up, break it down in the tiniest cell.
in our room with a view and a window to hell
with those who bury bodies and the barrels of fun,
and march through museums that display what they've done.
they'll be shot up through the sky by the cannon of sin,
who will reluctantly let them in

lol at eat a sub.

i believe the first time through he says:
"where the room with the bodies will display what they've done."

the second time he changes the lyrics:
"where those who bury bodies in the barrel of fun
will sit in ideas and regret what they've done."

i think he's also saying:
"who will reluctantly let them in?"

powerful song and performance. I agree with Katie11. As we know from, "Alive With the Glory of Love," his grandparents, were in the prison camp, Treblinka. Max displays his emotion in the live performance because of this. It truly hits home for him.

I think it's eat a SUB.
If it was eat US up, he would've said break us down or something.
US is reffering to two. IT is reffering to one.
US 2 IT 1 doesn't make sense.
SUB 1 IT 1 does.

This song is beautiful. I hope the album version is simple and doesn't suffer from overproduction ("About Falling", anyone?), because the live version is perfect the way it is. I feel so incredibly lucky to have been at that show.

I truly believe that Max is the best thing in music today. His music and song writing ability is so great it goes unnoticed for what it is. His performance just tells that he puts everything he has go into it... EVEN WHEN HE IS SITTING DOWN (or has a twisted ankle, or when he gets chocked by an outrageous fan)! Only time can tell how great and far he can take it.

Second of all, I want to say that I joined this website with the purpose of commenting on this song because as many of you have already mentioned, Max's acoustic performance was so incredibly moving. I believe that this song is trying to explain the evil tendencies of most human beings and the inability of others to shield themselves from that evil. The tone of the song is very dark and shows the futility of trying to live a meaningful life and of having faith in religion or basically anything. Then, the last part of the song, which gets me the most, shows how he tries to love, but the peaceful world that him and his lover create is invaded by outside forces of destruction. I also think that Max is referencing the Holocaust, as he states that they "have a view of the window to hell" and "those buried bodies that explain what they've done" showing the evil of the Nazi regime. Some people may argue that it is easy to assume that Max is mentioning the Holocaust since his Judaism is a reoccuring theme for him, but the line that really convinces me that he is indeed referencing it, is when he says "marched through museums that repel what they've done," which would be talking about the recognition of the evil through memorials and museums, and how remembering and recognizing the tragedy of what happened makes it possible for future generations to resist and fight off such atrocities from happening again. I don't know, maybe I completely over-analyzing the lyrics, but this song affected me so much and I just wanted to share my thoughts. Thank you once again Max, for a beautiful, touching, and thought-provoking song. You are amazing.

First of all here is what I'm pretty sure the correct lyrics are for Max's speaking part at the end of the song:

There's a crack in the edge of the end of the world
Where I sit with my love in its flourescent swirl
Eats us up, break it down to the tiniest cell
In our room with a view of the window to hell
With those buried bodies that explain what they've done
And marched through museums that repel what they've done
Shot up through the sky by the cannon of sin
Who reluctantly let them in?

"where low is to bury bodies" is actually "where those who bury bodies"

the "eat a [blank]" is "eat a sub" as in a sandwich.

Also, I think it's "We'll reluctantly let them in", rather than "Moving reluctantly, down, in".

I think the

"Where the birds, the hotties will be spern what they done
The fox, the museums that propel what they've done"

is actually,
"In a room where the bodies will display what they've done
And march through museums that repel what they've done"

But I agree with IamZo, watching him get so passionate makes me feel the song as well.

The last verse is amazing and Max goes absolutely nuts in the acoustic video. The best thing about Say Anything is that Max feels his music and you can tell in his movements and voice when they performs live.
