Lyrics for Floating in the Forth as interpreted by mattcorden

Floating in the Forth Lyrics
So you just stepped out
of the front of my house
and I'll never see you again.
I closed my eyes for a second
and when they opened
you weren't there.
And the door shut shut
I was vacuum packed,
shrink-wrapped out of air
And the spine collapsed
and the eyes rolled back
to stare at my starving brain,

And fully clothed, I float away
(I'll float away)
Down the Forth, into the sea
I think I'll save suicide for another day.

And I picture this corpse
on the M8 hearse
and I half run away to sleep
On a rolled up coat
against the window
with the strobe of the sun
and the life I've led
am I ready to leap
is there peace beneath
the roar of the Forth road bridge?
On the Northern side
there's a Fife of mine
and a boat in the port for me,

And fully clothed, I float away
(I'll float away)
Down the Forth, into the sea
I'll steer myself
through drunken waves
these manic gulls
scream it's okay
take your life
give it a shake
gather up
all your loose change
I think I'll save suicide for another year.

I think its 'Choppy waves' also...

And I think it's 'is a Fife of mine' rather than 'there's'.

Such a hopeful song, not many bands can say "I think I'll save suicide for another day" and not make it sound whiny.
Brilliant how it changes from "day" to "year" a great showing of progression and change.

This song reminds me so much of Iain Banks' novel, The Steep Approach to Garbadale about a guy who can't get over his mother's suicide, and he constantly dreams of watching her creep out of the house wearing a massive coat, and as she walks away she keeps picking up rocks and putting them in all the pockets until whe gets to the loch. And she just keeps walking until she gets to the drop-off, and the last thing she sees before the icy water closes over head is gulls. But the book is about him getting over all this crap in his life, so the hopeful ending to the song kind of fits. I wonder if it was inspired by the book? Scottish author too, I think he's even from Glasgow?

This song is following the same theme as the rest of the album, i read an interview about it, wherein he states that the album is about a very traumatic breakup he went through, and this album tells the story of it. This song is about right at the end, after the breakup, how he wanted to commit suicide by jumping off the forth bridge (hence the name) but he decided that he would carry on living, hence the,
'I guess i'll save suicide for another year'.

I feel the lyric is "i steer myself through chopping waves" not "drunken waves".
Never the less this song is incredible truly inspirational...
Scratch that the entire album is a work of art, from start to finish top class lyrics stunning drums and guitar work that would put most indie bands these days to shame...
