I couldn't help but agree with him. I've seen friends and family die of cancer. One of my best friend's dads is dying of it and every day I see him grow weaker and weaker. If animal testing could save his life, could have saved my grandmother's life, my grandfather's life, or my neighbor's life, then I would commend it, and I commend it in that some day it may lead to better treatments for diseases and crippling illnesses.
This song is talking to all those people who think that they have found some better, more enlightened way to live. He talks about the people who think that money is pointless and scoff at those who seek it at all. The thing is that at least for the author, he needs money in order to fulfill his basic needs that everyone has no matter what. He doesn't say that everyone else needs money, but that for him that is the only way he knows to fulfill those needs.
