Keep changing your mind
Like clouds in the sky
Love me when you're high
Leave me when you cry

I know it all
It takes time
Like a river running dry
When the sun's too bright

[Chorus]
So long, this is goodbye
May we meet again in another life
Like strangers passing by
May we see it clearly in a different light

Keep touching lies
Like a thief in the night
The sun will rise
And expose all the lies

So why deny that you and I
Live different lives
The rivers from your eyes
Can't change my mind

[Chorus]

The rivers from your eyes
Can't change my mind

[Chorus]

Song Meaning:It is an anti-war song. Think about who wrote it and who covered it. 10 Years worked with me while I was working with Amnesty International. Carlos Santa wrote this song. Think about it... two soldiers of opposite sides passing each other and one pleading for his life before the other kills him. The one who kill's him is thinking this.

"May we see clearly in a different LIGHT"

No need for killing in the afterlife/another life.

General Comment:This song is exactly what I am going through right now with the girl am in love with. We are totally different(live different lives) but we are still in love with each other. We have been going round that face for some time now (dodging lights like thieves in the night) but right now I feel we can't escape that fact because the truth has lately hit me on the face(the sun has risen and exposed all our lies) and I feel that I need to break up with her. Who knows maybe one day we will meet and we all will fall into place.

Very, very sad song for me personally. :(

My Interpretation:I listened to this song more closely recently and realized how this song fits perfectly for the movie, The Butterfly Effect. How he keeps trying to go back and change things so that they might end up together, but every time it goes horribly wrong. And at the very end of the movie they see each other again and are passing each other by like strangers. It just hit me right when I heard that line. :)

I love the overall meaning behind the song.. it's sad but sweet at the same time.

General Comment:the rock version is something wonderful, ive been listening to this on repeat for awhile, im moving to califonia from ky very soon, so i wanted to ask the love of my life, to run away with me, weve been separated for sometime now, but i still love her more than any other, she says no, that she cant, but continues to remind me of our wonderful relationship we had in our past life. which i ended out of stupidity, she makes me wish i wasnt leaving so i could start anew with her, but this move is happening, and i will sadly be leaving her behind, ~may we meet again in another life~

General Comment:Pretty good WhispersInTheWind. I would agree with you on almost all of it.....except when they meet again. "Like strangers passing by".....he wants their passing to be like strangers meeting/seeing each other for the very first time. He wants it to be like they know nothing of their previous life's history. A completely fresh start....where they can "see clearly in a different light".

General Comment:Hm, well a lot of people seem to think that when he sings about meeting again in another life, it's like a new start for them, but I'm not seeing it this way. I don't think this is a nice break up at all really. I think the girl wants the relationship to work but the guy just doesn't want anything to do with her again.

The rivers from your eyes can't change my mind.

She obviously doesn't want him to leave, but he just can't take it anymore.

So long this is goodbye, may we meet again in another life, like strangers passing by..

When they "meet again" he is giving her hope that they'll see each other, but since they will only be passing by, he still doesn't want anything to become of it.

So I don't really think he's giving her a happy ending at all. This is just my view though.

My Opinion:I love love love this song. In my opinion this song has many meanings. In one way, some one could have gone through alot of hard times and they are deciding to say good-bye to the ones they love. In a way they will meet again and still love each other. Another way to look at this song is that someone who thought they were in love with someone, figured out that that person only cared for them "some" of the time. So they are saying good bye to that relationship and hoping to see it differently in a new perspective.

Memory:This song perfectly fits me and the person I'm in love with now. He doesn't love me, and we are from two completely different social classes in school (aka lives), and all I can hope is that we can meet in another life and see clearly, to quote the song. He's my soulmate in a shell that can only hurt me. Maybe another life can make it work better.
