Lyrics for Air War as interpreted by Downtownla12

Air War Lyrics
Bronze by gold heard the hoofrons,
steelyringing imperthnthn thnthnthn.

Chips, picking chips off rocky thumbnail, chips.
Horrid! And gold flushed more.

A husky fifenote blew.
Blew. Blue bloom is on the
Gold pinnacled hair.
A jumping rose on satiny breasts of satin,
rose of Castille.

Trilling, trilling: I dolores.
Peep! Who's in the... peepofgold?
Tink cried to bronze in pity.
And a call, pure, long and throbbing. Longindying call.

Decoy. Soft word. But look! The bright stars fade. O rose! Notes
chirruping answer. Castille. The morn is breaking.
Jingle jingle jaunted jingling.
Coin rang. Clock clacked.

Avowal. Sonnez. I could. Rebound of garter. Not leave thee.
Smack. La cloche! Thigh smack. Avowal. Warm. Sweetheart,
goodbye!

When love absorbs. War! War! The tympanum.
A sail! A veil awave upon the waves.
When first he saw. Alice!
Full tup. Full throb.
Warbling. Ah, lure! Alluring.

Martha! Come!
Clapclop. Clipclap. Clappyclap.
Goodgod henev erheard inall.
A moonlight nightcall: far: far.
I feel so sad. P. S. So lonely blooming.

Listen!
The spiked and winding cold seahorn. Have you the? Each and
for other plash and silent roar.
Pearls: when she. Liszt's rhapsodies. Hissss.

I was NOT expecting all this. Listening to the song you think the lyrics are pretty unrecognizable. Guess I'll have to listen again, closely.

i don't think there's a definite meaning, but i'm assuming it is some epic journey of sorts seeing as the original is titled 'Ulysses'.

or you know, experimentation with sounds.

The lyrics in the live show are totally different, cos it's not alice singing in the actual recorded version. She just sort of hisses until the bit where she shouts "WAR!" and i'm guessing she just makes it up but this summer at the reading festival it sounded like she was shouting stuff about nuclear weapons and genocide etc

Ulysses totals about 265,000 words from a vocabulary of 30,030 words (including proper names) and is divided into 18 "episodes".

Ulysses' stream-of-consciousness technique, careful structuring, and experimental prose—full of puns, parodies, and allusions—as well as its rich characterisations and broad humour, have made the book perhaps the most highly regarded novel in the Modernist pantheon.

@tom_omg: IMO, I don't think anyone could memorize those lyrics, tons of wtf words and weird sentences. That could be an explanation of why the lyrics change at some live shows.

Some of her (barely intelligible) lyrics seem to be influenced by Shakespeare..
Or at least by period poetry..
Has anyone else got that?

In courtship dating there's "How do i feel for thee?"
Or is that just similar to Browning's Poems from the Portuguese?
And here.."Soft word. But look! The bright stars fade. O rose! ... The morn is breaking."

I love most of Crystal Castles stuff..
Im sure there's some coherence somewhere..
But i like them all the more when i find them hardest to understand.

Anyway.. This song in particular...
Someone said its about being high..
I think i agree..
There are loads of references to 'Smack"- "Gold and Bronze"
"Gold pinnacles in her hair" is her fuzzy vision.. She's light/heavy headed...
She's seeing stuff like you would after pressing your eyes for a while
And then about Bells and drums, sounds she's hearing..
Talking about her high - "Clapclop. Clipclap. Clappyclap."
Then her low - "I feel so sad. P. S. So lonely blooming."
She's mixing up her words coz she's so intoxicated.

I really recommend everyone download "Thema (Omaggio a Joyce)" because it's creepy shit. It's hard to believe it was made in 1950.
