i'm working on my backwards walk
walking with no shoes or socks
and the time rewinds to the end of may
i wish we'd never met then met today

i'm working on my faults and cracks
filling in the blanks and gaps
and when i write them out they don't make sense
i need you to pencil in the rest

i'm working on drawing a straight line
and i'll draw until i get one right
it's bold and dark girl, can't you see
i done drawn a line between you and me

i'm working on erasing you
just don't have the proper tools
i get hammered, forget that you exist
there's no way i'm forgetting this

i'm working hard on walking out
shoes keep sticking to the ground
my clothes won't let me close the door
these trousers seem to love your floor

i been working on my backwards walk
there's nowhere else for me to go
except back to you just one last time
say yes before i change my mind

say yes before i...
you're the shit and i'm knee-deep in it

General Comment:I know this has probably been said before, but I feel like it's about two people that keep going back to each other, even though they don't work out. Whether it be for love or physical passions that they go back, they do and they get stuck. I feel like when he says "i been working on my backwards walk/there's nowhere else for me to go/except back to you just one last time/say yes before i change my mind" he's saying that they've both been trying to move on, seeing other people and just erasing each other, but they had intertwined themselves together so deeply, that they run back to each other, but he can't take rejection and he'll probably realize it's a bad idea later, but he just wants her to say yes in that moment.

This song just speaks to me.

I definitely agree with Bayley though, the trousers on the floor, were, to me, a allusion to sex and passion.

It's crazy how much I can relate to this part. To me, it seems like he wants to forget someone but he can't bring himself to do it, like he doesn't "have the proper tools" to do so. So he turns to drinking to try to solve the problem, but he knows that won't work.

General Comment:This song to me is about the subject having had a broken relationship, and walking backwards to where he came from, so he can start again with the person the relationship was broken from. He believes he has no other option as this is who he loves and where his heart lays. He wants a second chance, and to show this person that he is worth the time, with love prevailing over him.

    General Comment:The line is
"i wish we'd never met that MAN today"!

Its clearly saying she cheated on him and he wants to go back in time
to before that happened, that would make things all good again right?

Every song on the album has an underlying theme of cheating,
as his girl cheated on him before he wrote the album.

    Heres an ironic point...
In the second song on the album called "i feel better"
he says "this the last song i write about you"
Ironically there are 12 more songs after this one lol,
i know this dont relate to this song i jus thought it was funny.
