Calm down
Deep breaths
And get yourself dressed instead
Of running around
And pulling all your threads saying
Breaking yourself up
If it's a broken part, replace it
But, if it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart then face it
And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
And everything will be fine
Everything will be fine
Hmm
Hang on
Help is on the way
Stay strong
I'm doing everything
And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
And hold your own
Know your name
And go your own way
And everything, everything will be fine
Everything
Are the details in the fabric
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling?
Are the things that make you blow
Hell, no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault
Of faulty manufacturing.
Yeah everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Everything
[Chorus]
Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic
Are your thoughts results of static cling? (Go your own way)
Are the details in the fabric (Hold your own, know your name)
Are the things that make you panic (Go your own way)
Is it Mother Nature's sewing machine?
Are the things that make you blow (Hold your own, know your name)
Hell no reason go on and scream
If you're shocked it's just the fault (Go your own way)
Of faulty manufacturing
Everything will be fine
Everything in no time at all
Hearts will hold
Deep breaths
And get yourself dressed instead
Of running around
And pulling all your threads saying
Breaking yourself up
If it's a broken part, replace it
But, if it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart then face it

apparently Jason's friend had just broken up with his girlfriend, and these are real messages that he left, the second a few hours after the first. the song is a response (obviously not a direct response, he probably wrote the song a while after) to the first message, where his friend thought his whole life was over because things fell through with this girl. and the song is telling him to be strong and stop freaking out over one little detail and look at the whole fabric of his life instead
For me, the theme of this song is about him trying to get over the one he loves. He knows that in the end, "everything will be fine", and his broken heart will piece back together; it will be whole again.
And get yourself dressed
Instead of running around
And pulling on your threads
And breaking yourself up
This stanza (I think) is about rebounding after something bad happening. It's about being in the stage of shock and beating yourself up about something that has happened.
"get yourself dressed" (to me) is not literal. It means to be proactive and resiliant and rebound after something bad happened. Instead of walking around in PJ's, get dressed and ready for the long day.
If it's a broken part, replace it
If it's a broken arm, then brace it
If it's a broken heart, then face it
Pretty self explanitory. face it. its what you have to work with, so work with it, not against it.
And hold your own, know your name
And go your own way.
Hold your own, know your name
And go your own way.
And everything, will be fine.
"hold your own know your name" is saying to be strong and know who you are and remember who you are and stay true to it even in the toughest times.
All the details in the fabric
All the things that make you panic
All your thoughts, results of static cling
All the things that make you blow
Ain't no reason, go on and scream
If you're shocked,
It's just the fault of faulty manufacturing
Everything, will be fine
Everything, in time
Everything...
This part is about lots of things going wrong and some one being under a lot of stress. And they are mainly over reacting. In the end, everything with be okay.
it is somehow saying that when something is throwing you off your equilibrium, you should by all means try to get a grip of something and save yourself in any way you can. by keeping a part of you sane, you will hold up long enough until someone takes your hand and pulls you up and helps you.
someone out there is coming to help you. you just have to keep it together as much as you can.
*i've sung this song a thousand times for different reasons*
And this song is just GREAT. i can't believe how comforting it is.
i dunno if anyone has noticed how jason can make two simple words as "CALM DOWN" soooo powerful.i mean i really feel calmed down when i hear it.
Simply I think i'm in love with Jason Mraz.
Yesturday something really sad happened to me, and I was about to have a panic attack, so I slowly sang this song (as I could) and "Calm down, deep breaths"
"Hang on, help is on the way
And stay strong,"
And I repeted to myself over and over: "Everything will be fine
Everything..."
This song helped me to calm down and stay strong....
