When we walked the streets together
All the faces seemed to smile back
And now the pavements
Have nothing to offer
And all the faces seem to need a slap

There's an unfamiliar grip
On an unfamiliar handkerchief
Attending to the tears on cheeks
I wouldn't notice
With you no matter how vicious the grief
Her expression was damp and crooked
Grabs onto my throat and won't let go

Won't let go
Won't let go
Won't let go

Save me from
The secateurs
I'll pretend
I didn't hear
Can't you see
I'm the ghost in the wrong coat
Biting butter and crumbs

There's a handsome maverick
You don't talk about to keep me calm
And I can't help
But try create a diversion
Pulls you back onto his arm

Please don't tell me
You don't have to darling I can sense
That he painted you a gushing sunset
And slayed
Their angry panthers in your defense
He stands separate and ever deadly
Clings onto my throat and won't let go

Won't let go
Won't let go
Won't let go

Save me from
The secateurs
I'll pretend
I didn't hear
Can't you see
I'm a ghost
In the wrong coat
Biting butter and crumbs

General Comment:Slightly different take to some of the above on the lines "he painted you a gushing sunset and slayed angry panthers in your defence' and 'I create aversion, that pulls you back onto his arm".

Clearly a 'third party' involved in the relationship but I reckon its someone from her past that she still thinks is perfect, but has lost, and the bloke in the present is suffering from comparisons to him, both by her and in his own mind.

General Comment:idk...ex boyfriend...or new boy friend...perhaps hes no longer with her and shes with sum1 new. heres my arguement
the first verse; he basically says "when im with you the world is happy ..but now im not with u everything pisses me off"..recheck and compare...second verse translation; "now youre crying to some1 else about your problems and not me and i cant notice your tears cuz u dont talk about it to me..the expression youre giving kills me inside cuz i cant help u anymore" and when he says "im a Ghost in the wrong coat" i think it means "im not the same without u and im dead inside"-pretty emo right? 3rd verse translation; the handsome maverick is the new guy, and our guy is trying to get her attention, but she still goes back to the maverick... last verse, he doesnt want to hear how well the girls new relationship is going cuz he can already tell, and even thou the maverick isnt doing anything to our guy directly, he is killing him...deepp shit..respect man...
    one love,

General Comment:Well me and my boyfriend were discussing and we think that it's not a new guy, it's the girl's ex. "seperate and ever deadly" as in nothing to do with them, but always there as a threat. Almost as if he feels he has to measure up to how good her ex was. :)

General Comment:Yup I agree with fireplace.
I think the "handsome maverick" was the girl's ex-boyfriend, rather than someone she's cheated on our guy with.
And he's jealous because he seemed so perfect, and terrified that she's going to go back to him.

General Comment:these are great lyrics. the girl was dating some "handsome maverick" and doesn't talk about him but whoever wrote the song can't help wondering how perfect he was for her and is stuck between that place of not wanting to know and being curious.

General Comment:You are correct, except he saying -
Save me from the sequiturs, not secateurs.
Meaning, save him from the logical end. I feel he is saying he can see the relationship is ending, but doesn't want it to.
Or the end of the story, where she ends up with this other guy.

I reckon it means that she keeps talking about how great he (her new love) is but he doesn't want to hear any of it
