it also reveals the slight insecurity that he knows he has, he worries alot, overprotective ("clingy" to some)
but he's sayin he's not ashamed of caring THAT much and hopes that the girl knows he not wanting to be a "ball and chain" holding her back, its just the way he is, he is slightly scared of changed and worries about things he's not familiar with.
