Together we cry
Together we cry

Jenny was a poor girl
Living in a rich world
Named her baby Hope when she was just fourteen
She was hoping for a better world
For this little girl
But the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree

Well she gets that call
Hope's too far gone
Her baby's on the way
But nothing left inside
Together we cry!

What about the junk head
Could have gone the whole way
Lighting up the stage trying to get a deal
Now he's lighting up the wrong way
"Something for the pain!"
Man you wanna see this kid he was so f@#kin' unreal
When he gets that call
He's too far gone
To get it together to sing one song
They won't hear tonight
The words of a lullaby

Together we cry
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Together we cry
Whoa oh whoa oh whoa
Together we cry
Oh we cry we cry we cry
Together we cry
Oh we cry we cry
Whoa oh whoa oh whoa

Oh Mary's ambitious
She wanna to be a politician
She been dreaming about it since she was a girl
She thought that she'd be the one to change the world
Always trying to pave the way for women in a¢?¦man's world
But life happened, house, kids, 2 cars, husband hits the jar, checks that don't go very far now
Now she in it can't change it, she keeps her mind on her wages
The only rattling cages!

Together we cry
Together we cry

There comes a time when every bird has to fly
At some point every rose has to die
It's hard to let your children go
Leave home
Where they go?
Who knows!
Getting drunk
Getting stoned
All alone
Teach a man to fish
And feed him for life
You show your kids the truth
Hope they never lie
Instead of reading in a letter that they've gone to something better
"Bet your sorry now! I won't be coming home tonight"

I'm sick of looking for those heroes in the sky
To teach us how to fly
Together we cry!

Together we cry
Together we cry

General Comment:For me, this song depicts the problems of my society and the people who live in it. Teenage pregnancies, drugs, people with ambitions - who just couldn't make it out of the rubbish no matter how hard they try - I've seen all of them, that's real life.

Great song ! I love it how The Script talks about real life as it is on their songs - eventually ending up with masterpieces of very very genuine and relatable songs. I hope there's a lot of bands like The Script out there, as nowadays, we're used to seeing and hearing bands that are just flat out pretentious and obvious industry puppets with their tongue-in-cheek and cheap lyrics :/

General Comment:i agree w. everyone. pretty much its abt the loss of innocence and what not and just abt children being in a hurry to get out into the adult world and experience stuff.

General Comment:not to be picky but the lyrics "the only rattling cages" is actually "the only rattling cages are her own" it's in the booklet. sry it was just bugging me. I love this song SOOO much. I checked on Itunes and it says that i've listened to it 110 times. Ya that's sorta pushing it. lol

General Comment:This is really a heart-felt song. I love it.
I listened to a radio interview the guys did back in August in Ireland. They said the inspiration for the incidents in 'We Cry' (teen pregnancy, drugs, drink etc) came from what they saw happening on a regular basis in really rough parts of Dublin (where they grew up).
The meaning is pretty straightforward. All three people mentioned in the song had ambitons and hopes for a better world, but it never happened.
I'm thinking the meaning of the line 'Together We Cry...' is since all three have been let down by life, they're all in a similar sad situation. So they cry together.

General Comment:i think it's an awesome song!! you can just interpret it in so many ways.... but i don't get it when it goes on about the John PLay thing...i know a lot of people mistake it for junkhead, and that makes sense...but the john play thing is the actual thing and i just don't get it..:P

General Comment:I got the official lyrics booklet :) And yeah, that missing verse is definitely:

"There's so much sad gonna flood the ocean
We're all in tears for a world that's broken"

And it's not "what about the junk head"
    It says here:
    "What about the John Play"

    You'll feed him never lie

Is "you feed a man for life"

General Comment:i really love this song. to me it means that no matter how good your intentions are if you dont constintly work at them everything could fall apart from one little mistake. its sad to think how some people could be so great and they just let it slip away. this song inspires me to work hard for what i want and never give up on my dreams or they could crumble and become almost impossible to reach.

    General Comment:Missing this part:

There's so much sad gonna flood the ocean
We're all in tears for the world is broken

I really like this song. I think the meaning is very easy to intepret. Young men and women's hopes for a good life shattered in the blink of an eye.

General Comment:like someone said above..just thier outlook to some of life's situations(negative yes)and maybe they are telling us to not look for or hope for artificial means (heroes reference?)but that we should take control of our own destiny, work hard at shaping our lives and hope for the best..maybe
