I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it's all mine.
Oh, oh whoa

Do what you want, but you're never gonna break me.
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me.
No, oh whoa

Take me away (take me away)
A secret place (a secret place)
A sweet escape (a sweet escape)
Take me away (take me away)

Take me away (take me away)
To better days (to better days)
Take me away (take me away)
A hiding place (a hiding place)

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it's all mine.
Oh, oh whoa

Do what you want, but you're never gonna break me.
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me.
No, oh whoa

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it's all mine.
Oh, oh whoa

Wish that you could, but you ain't gonna own me.
Do anything you can to control me.
Oh, oh no

Take me away (take me away)
A secret place (a secret place)
A sweet escape (a sweet escape)
Take me away (take me away)

Take me away (take me away)
To better days (to better days)
Take me away (take me away)
A hiding place (a hiding place)

There's a place that I go,
That nobody knows.
Where the rivers flow,
And I call it home.

And there's no more lies.
In the darkness, there's light.
And nobody cries.
There's only butterflies.

Take me away (take me away)
A secret place (a secret place)
A sweet escape (a sweet escape)
Take me away (take me away)

Take me away (take me away)
To better days (to better days)
Take me away (take me away)
A hiding place (a hiding place)

Take me away (take me away)
A secret place (a secret place)
A sweet escape (a sweet escape)
Take me away (take me away)

Take me away (take me away)
To better days (to better days)
Take me away (take me away)
A hiding place (a hiding place)

Take me away (take me away)
A secret place (a secret place)
A sweet escape (a sweet escape)
Take me away (take me away)

Take me away (take me away)
To better days (to better days)
Take me away (take me away)
A hiding place (a hiding place)

The sun is on my side.
Take me for a ride.
I smile up to the sky.
I know I'll be all right.

The sun is on my side.
Take me for a ride.
I smile up to the sky.
I know I'll be all right.

General Comment:For the love of the gods, people! The song is not about drugs! I agree, it's about inner peace and achieving it! Drugs, come on? Get out of the house and live a little people! I have never heard of LSD referred to as "sunshine", by the by. Diamonds, however, are a different story! It's up to the individual I guess to interpret a song, I suppose, but those of you obsessed with it being about drugs either need to get on them or get off of them. One more crack about The Beatles, by the way, and I'm coming unglued!!!

General Comment:The song is about pot and there is no subliminal message you idiots. a pocketful of sunshine means you have a bag of pot in your pocket, it has seriously been around since the 70's

    she talk about HEAVEN.
she wanna out from sh*it drama of life..
    "And there's no more lies.
    In the darkness, there's light.
    And nobody cries.
    There's only butterflies."

Seems there is only happiness. The one and only one place that nobody cries is HEAVEN.

My Interpretation:i thought that song sounds like two different people:
    one confident succesful person
and one depressed person seeking a release from reality

General Comment:Just out of curiosity...how is it a known fact that the song is about LSD? Did she say, "Oh by the way Pocket full of sunshine is about LSD usage"? I think that given any lyric and a brain you can pretty much make what you want. That is any written word is so widely debated as to the real meaning behind them... Take the word love for example and you ask 20 people what it means to them and its different all around. I for instance take this song litterally, because you don't need to look deeper into the subliminal to get a deep meaning out of it. For those of you who have dabbled in drug use or have friends that have then this song may seem like it is about drugs. However unless you absolutely know for a fact that Natasha said that this song was about LSD then it is open for interpretation

My Interpretation:I don't even know what to say after reading all of these interpretations except, wow. There are better places to be that can give you a sense of peace and happiness other than high on drugs. Have any of you considered that she is talking about having the love of Jesus? That is the best kind of high I have ever known and trust me I've been high on drugs, it's not a 'pocket full of sunshine.' I am sorry for those of you who think that's the best that life can get.

She is saying look I've got a love and it's all mine! He (Jesus) is going to take me to a place where there are no more lies and the darkness is light. "I smile up to the sky, I know I'll be alright." She is looking up to God saying I know I'll be alright because I have You. Man on man, Satan sure knows how to get into people's heads and make them believe lies. He (Satan) deserves non of the credit for this song. I hope that all of you come to know the Lord and reap the many benefits that His love has to offer.

General Comment:Wow! Seems like everyone is so way off on this! This song is absolutely about her vagina and masterbation and how she has control over it. "Pocket full of sunshine" aptly describes her love box and it's all hers. Does anyone know if "sticks and stones" means somethihg different in England, like perhaps, the male anatomy? "Take me away to a secret-sweet escape, a higher place" is soo a reference to that happy place girls goto when in the heat of passion as in "where the river flows" and "there's only butterflies." "Take me for a ride.I smile up to the sky.I know I'll be all right." I smile up to the sky as if she's laying on her back smiling at the sky with butterflies in her pocket full of sunshine. There is absolutely no hidden meaning behind what these lines are saying, and I recall the first time I heard this song I thought it was catchy female drivel until I found out NB sang it and after thinking about her golden hair and way she sings it was so totally obvious her last boy toy must have tried to control her treasure chest. Not to add to the confusion but, the term "Pocket Full of Sunshine" has been used as a reference to cocaine by bands such as Gorillaz.
