my favorite line is also "but in the end, the only steps that matter are the ones that you take all by yourself."
it's so true though, that the only decisions in your life that truly mean anything (in a sense), that truly define you, are the decisions that you make by yourself. overall, i agree that the theme is about growing up and learning to be your own person and moving on through the hard times :)
My favorite line is "the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself" it really just says sometimes you have to do things by yourself but you'll get more from it in the long run. And those times are very defining moments in life
Its all of the above, and also, dont expect yourself to be someone you arn't. This isnt hinted in the song, its just a personal lesson, expecting yourself to be better than you are in some terms can leave you upset with your life.
In feel this is saying that sometimes the grass may seem greener on the other side, but it is important to remember that the only person that should matter to you is you.
To me it's a person encouraging another. Telling them to find out who they are, go for what they want go for, and no matter what I'll be here for you.
