Lyrics for Show Me What I'm Looking For as interpreted by changeback

Show Me What I'm Looking For Lyrics
Wait, I'm wrong
Should have done better than this
Please, I'll be strong
I'm finding it hard to resist
So show me what I'm looking for

Save me, I'm lost
Oh lord, I've been waiting for you
I'll pay any cost
Save me from being confused
Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for, oh lord

Don't let go
I've wanted this far too long
Mistakes become regrets
I've learned to love abuse
Please show me what I'm looking for

Save me, I'm lost
Oh lord, I've been waiting for you
I'll pay any cost
Save me from being confused
Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for, oh lord

Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for

Save me, I'm lost
Oh lord, I've been waiting for you
I'll pay any cost
Just save me from being confused
Wait, I'm wrong
I can't do better than this
I'll pay any cost
Save me from being confused
Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for
Show me what I'm looking for, oh lord

i like it. its an awesome song, but is it me...or is he singing about God? i suppose "oh lord i've been waiting for you" could be a double meaning...? idk...its still a fantastic song =]

I do think this song is about God, but it could be interpreted in many ways. I think one of them is of course a relationship. thats what i get out of it. you search and search for someone great and can feel so lost. but then you meet someone and when you're first getting to know them, they are constantly showing you what you've been looking for.

"don't let go
i've wanted this far too long
mistakes become regrets
i've learned to love abuse
please show me what i'm looking for"

you've wanted someone like this for so long and you wish you would have realized it in the past. instead, you made mistakes and were in bad relationships, so this person is showing you what you want and need

I don't know, thats just how i can apply to my life right now :)

I don't think this song is about God, For example, how it says "Don't let go" really throws me off.

I don't know, that line just makes me think that if he was really singing about God then he would believe in God and if he believed in God then he would believe God is perfect, and has unconditional love, so he would not let go.

Just a thought.

When I first listened to the lyrics of this song I got the impression that he was speaking directly to God. I think when he says he is lost and wants to be saved from being confused, he is saying he doesn't know what to believe in, but he wants to believe in something, so he is asking God to guide him and show him what he is looking for, but he doesn't even know what it is he looking for. Or something. I don't know, I'm probably way off but it still made me cry because I can really relate to these lyrics. My interpretation of them, anyway. But I'm probably wrong as usual lol.

I think that the second verse "don't let go" etc isn't talking to god, instead it's talking to his worldly desires? I mean he's asking god to lead him away from these desires and the other verse is speaking to the desires that he's wanted it for a long time and is addicted. All makes it a lot more sad and meaningful.

I definitely do not agree with you guys about the song being about God. It's about him finally finding a girl and wants her to show him everything he wants and has been looking for in a person. when he says 'oh lord.." it's just like a saying. Just becase it says Oh lord you don't have to think of it so literal and think outside the box a litte bit.

I don't really think he is either singing to God, or some girl.. I think it is more of an question to his surrondings.. Like when you feel lost or something you kind a ask yourself (or nobody in peticular) to show you the way.. He is looking for something or someone to believe in.. Trying to make sense out of things.. And "the oh lord" phrase, I don't think its supposed to be interpreteded so literal...

But that's just my opinion..

No it's not about God. It doesn't have to be a girl either, not necessarily. It's about this guy, the lead singer (I'm too lazy to look up his name), he's waiting for that one person to show him what life's really about. It could be meant towards a girl, a parent, a friend, or just someone who's turned his life around. Think of him as simba and the person he's looking for is that weird baboon guy. He needs someone to tell him what he's been waiting to hear, to answer all the questions he needs answered. Answered because he's begun to question life or humanity itself. That's me interpretation, it's not necessarily directed at any one person, it's a general s.o.s.

I really do think that this song is a worship song. I believe he is talking directly to God. If anyone has looked up the lyrics in the cd booklet, one would have realized that "Lord" is capitalized. While this may not be a big deal, the only words that are capitalized in the booklet are the words at the beginning of a sentence, proper nouns..etc. The only time lord is capitalized is when it is referencing God. Why would someone capitalize lord if it wasn't referring to God? there would be no reason to because it would be "just a phrase."

Maybe he's just finding God? Maybe he feels as if God has let him go. Just because God will never let you go doesn't mean that people don't feel as if God isn't there with you. I know plenty of people who have had HUGE struggles in their life and they are wondering where God is.

Plus, just because two songs later he has a song that says shit in it doesn't mean that "Show me what I'm looking for" isn't a Christian song. People shouldn't be basing how much a person cusses on their relationship with God. Because really, they basically have nothing to do with each other.

If a person believes in God, isn't He the one you want all your life's answers from?

I just really think this song is powerful and I can't see it not being about how much he needs God in his life because he's lost and confused.

I think you should interpret it for yourself. What does it mean to you?
To me it's not a worship song. Right now it feels like the guy's been in a bad situation where he doesn't know what to do and he feels pretty bad and unsure. Finally he gets some good thing, it could be an event like getting a job, getting into a great relationship, or getting to move away, but he's still finally seeing relief. I'm not religious and I don't believe in God but I still sometimes say "Oh Lord" when something great or bad happens. Right now I'm getting ready to leave a place where I'm not happy and I can really relate to this song. Hearing this song was almost the same feeling I believe is expressed in the song. So refreshing and it just makes you feel good.
Chad Wolf did grow up in a religious home and takes some musical influence from gospel music. I think that style comes through a lot in this song.

This song means everything to me.
It tells me that he is lost and he just
wants to be found. It is like a cry for help.

I can relate so much and I really understand.
This song means so much to me and I don't
care if anyone thinks it is to God or something.
I feel this song is just for anything and to mean something
to the person who hears it. They want you to find out
what it means to YOU. Not what it means to HIM.

Other than that it is a lovely song.
And it truly does settle the heart and mind.

Honestly, when I hear this song it represented everything I've been feeling since I lost my best friend took his own life over the summer. I think that's what this song is truly about, a feeling of loss and not knowing what to do with your life. Hence, "Save me... I'm lost"

I remember feeling so much regret, about things I could've done better... and I still do, and I'm looking for someone to show me the way back to happiness. Even though he says Lord a lot, I don't think this person necessarily needs to be god. He's just looking for someone to give him some guidance and overcome his feelings of regret.

Anyway, the lyrics rang true for me, and that's why I love this song.

This song means something to me that no one has commented about...the guy who introduced me to this song was someone I was involved with..he told me he wanted me to hear this song. I asked him if he liked it for the sound or the lyrics he said both but mostly the lyrics. The day he told me about this song was the day he ended our relationship...he had a serious girlfriend at the same time as he and I were just starting to see each other. He told me he wanted to be faithful to her. When our relationship started he kept telling me he was having hard time resisting me...so this song for me is totally about someone trying to do the right thing. The lyric "wait I'm wrong should have done better that this" is what he was feeling when he was with me...and "i'm finding it hard to resist" described our situation perfectly...anyway I love this song but it kind of bums me out...

i think the guys is lost and doesn't know what to do. his relationship with a girl at first is really good. its everything he wants in a relationship and its something he's wanted for a long time. he doesn't want to let go of what he has. but things go bad.... hes confused and doesn't know if she is really the one for him. he thinks he can do better than her but doesn't know for sure. he is just confused and remembers all the good in the past but doesn't know if it will get better.... the main point of the song is that he wants to stop being confused.... he has to make a decision.... find a way to make the relationship better or end the relationship.

I think this song deals with those who are still searching for God. Those of us that are agnostic, or any other denomination that is still searching for the man upstairs. It relates to my life because, I'm on the line wanting to believe, but I want to know what I'm looking for. I'm still looking, great song.

I relate this to Christ. A woman cannot save you or complete you. She is flesh and blood, just like me and you. Us humans are selfish, greedy, prideful, nasty people full of pervertive motives so when you place another human being up on that pedistule to complete or fill that void that you feel you need, you are setting up for failure. But when two people(man and woman) are both after something that holds true, full of love, compassion, comfort, wisdom, strength, and who is absolutely perfect who was not capable of sin in Christ you will find something permanent, true, and eternal. Idolatry is dangerous, and God(Our Creator) didn't create us to idolize another human or put them in that position to complete our life. It wouldn't be fair to us humans to do that.

i think that it's not about god or some love, but just about where to go next in his life. the lyrics arn't quite meant to be taken in the literal sense, i don't think.

yo robgarcia. Lord is God. what are you talking about??

And this song doesnt mean it is just about God. It's about life, this journey we are all on. We all want things but sometimes it just doesn't work out the way we want it to. He knows he can do better, he is just looking for the right direction

Yeah another poster said in the booklet Lord is capitalized, that means alot.
If they didnt mean it literly then it wouldnt be capitalized. Same with God.

for ex:
I love God
There are many false gods

...I completely disagree with everyone who says this song was a worship song.

Just because one capitalize Lord or God does NOT mean one worships God, or what some call the Lord Jesus Christ. Me, personally, as an Agnostic, I always capitalize God when referring to the Christian God. It is not so much out of belief or respect as it is out of decency.

Frankly, I think this is just one of those simple songs where the guy is saved from himself by some chick who happens to be more exciting than he is. You know, that crap.

Still, I do think this is a well-written song...music-wise, at least. The lyrics are a bit too simple for my tastes.
