I heard this for the first time on the Yeasayer take-away show...
youtube it: you'll love it instantly... it's much better than the album version, but it made me love the album version...

it makes more sense for the last verse to be split:

to pretty much agree with whats been said, i think its about a guy's journey through meeting an amazing girl, his persistence to sleep with her, becoming captivated by her world, and the joy, happiness & the gratefulness for life he feels when he finally achieves it.

I love this song, its an incredibly life-affirming track on an album that weaves beautifully between nihilism and hope

I just saw them play this song live, and it was really amazing. Just their facial expressions in the last stanza really made it seem like they meant it.

"Mary's house in the hollow of the white hazel rapid whirlpool and the church of the red cave" is an english translation of a town name in wales which is "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" -the longest town name in the world.
