Lyrics for I Will Possess Your Heart as interpreted by TDDx8

I Will Possess Your Heart Lyrics
How I wish you could see the potential
The potential of you and me
It's like a book elegantly bound
But in a language you can't read just yet

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

There are days when outside your window
I see my reflection as I slowly pass
And I long for this mirrored perspective
When we'll be lovers, lovers at last

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

I will possess your heart
I will possess your heart

You reject my advances and desperate pleas
I won't let you let me down so easily
So easily

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

You got to spend some time, love
You got to spend some time with me
And I know that you'll find love
I will possess your heart

I will possess your heart
I will possess your heart

This song is about being utterly obsessed with someone to the point where you refuse the idea of the love not being reciprocated, a situation I'm sure all of us have been in at least once.

There are some dark ambiguities beneath the repetitive lyrics and catchy melody... We need to remember that. The rest of the story is up to us. I've only been listening to this for the past half an hour and it's already one of my DCFC favourites.

Narrow Stairs will be so worth the wait. :)

I fear becoming this...absurdly obsessed with someone.

Pretty decent song, definitely looking forward to seeing if the rest of the album measures up.

This song is crazy awesome, the intro seems a bit drawn out, but the actual song is great.

this song is incredibly beautiful and haunting. the more i listen to the song, the more i find it amazing and creepy! I love the first verse and Ben Gibbard's almost silent "just yet." I didn't really notice it until i read the lyrics.

seriously, Narrow Stairs will be bloody epic!

Something I love, and they must have realized this when they wrote this song, is that so many of the fans are gonna latch onto this song as some pretty love song and have no idea how dark it actually is.

I think the intro is about 2 minutes too long, but that's just me... I like the song though. But I'd also have to agree with rossyvictor that the lyrics have a dark almost stalker vibe to them. Especially this part:

"And there are days when outside your window,
I see my reflection as I slowly pass.
And I long for the spirit perspective,
When we'll be lovers, lovers at last."

i completely agree with Rossy, when I first heard

How I wish you could see the potential,
The potential of you and me.
It's like a book elegantly bound,
But in a language that you can't read

I thought, "oh wow, what a brilliant love song! beautiful lyrics!" then it just, you know, went all stalkerish from there. brilliant!

wow *shivers* this song is WAY creepier than it seems on first listen.

it's a beautifully crafted song though.

it really makes you think about human emotions, and how dark love can turn.

I dont know. Im a huge death cab for cutie fan. I think this song is pretty good. I'm not sure the 2 minute intro is really necessary for a such a simple song though. But in terms of its lyrical content, its good, it just really simple and very drawn out. But im hoping that this is just a lead in to the rest of the album, and theres some kind of bigger theme within the narrow stairs album.

The song's catchy, but the lyrics are simplistic and the whole idea behind the song doesn't really seem like the older death cab that i like... kind of dissapointing. i hope the rest of the album is different, i didn't really like this song.

I have to say that I'm really looking forward to this new album. I never like new (or just discovered old) content from artist. Heck, when I found Transatlanticism, it took me several months of off and on listening to really like it. My first impression of that album was just, "meh". Now, this is something I really like. It's a totally new direction, vocally, from their prior albums, and has caught my attention from the first listen, and as someone said before, it is becoming one of my more favorite songs of theirs already. I hope their new album keeps this style running.

As for the song, it kinda reminds me of Aqualung's "Strange and Beautiful", lyrically. Very creepy, almost stalkeresque. It's readily something to which people can relate on many levels.

I do think that the intro is far too long and indulgent, but the music is absolutely beautiful and haunting and it fits with the rest of the song.

The lyrics and melody are both very simplistic and by themselves, not particularly impressive, but the combination is magic.

Yeah. I've gotta say, I'm pretty impressed. I'll certainly be buying this album.

I like it, it's catchy and all that, but the lyrics aren't really anything special. I kind of expected more, and still do. Musically speaking, it's pretty amazing.

I hope this single isn't a reflection of the entire album. I'm still excited.

I must agree that the intro is a bit too long.. at first i thought the song was just going to be death cab jamming but was pleasantly surprised when i heard ben's voice.

It's catchy, and overall I really like it :). I can not wait for narrow stairs to come out.

this song is really exciting in that it's a totally different concept, sonically, for death cab. it's not really a return to form so much as a retrieval of a feeling or spirit that we knew was present just from hearing transatlanticism or seeing their shows combined with the development witnessed with plans. death cab has always known, i think, how to evoke those subtle but powerful chills with their long instrumental breaks, and i'm really excited to see what this album is going to look like. indie meets 70s acid trip?
