And when the angels come
They'll cut you down the middle
To see if you're still there.
To see if you're still there.

And underneath your ribs
They'll find a heart-shaped locket,
An old photograph
Of you in Daddy's arms.

And then they'll sow you closed
And give you back to the water
From where we're all born
From where we're all born

And you'll feed the ghosts
And you'll feed the living
You will be a stranger
And you'll be a friend

You'll be the leper
You'll be the healer
You'll be the hero
And the tragedy

And when they sow you closed
They'll give you back to the water
From where we're all born
From where we're all born

When they burn your body
All that's left is sand crystals
Two tiny handfuls
All the rest is water, water, water

All you need to know
Is you are born of water
You are made of water
You are merely water, water, water

All you need to know
Is you are born of water
You are made of water
You are merely water, water, water

General Comment:This, to me, sounds like the description of an autopsy and a cremation.

    "And when the angels come
They'll cut you down the middle
To see if you're still there."

    and

    "When they burn your body
All that's left is sand crystals
    Two tiny handfuls"

General Comment:This songs means a lot. I really love basically every part about it. Personally I don't believe in God, but I think that this song really mentions a lot about how simple, and amazing life truly is. We are made of water, and a couple handfuls of sand. And I think that that's what this song about. It is comforting to know that when you die you return to nature, and life is an on-going cycle.

Sorrow more beautiful than Beauty's self

General Comment:This is the only song that has ever made me cry. The first time I heard it, I just had this intense vision of this guy's dead kid on an autopsy table with the white coats standing over him, and him praising his child for returning his flesh to the circle of life to feed and form new babies. One of the first CC songs I heard stoned out of my gills in a friend's car, and then I look it up and he /did/ have a kid that died. It seems like 75% of the songs I've heard are him telling himself it's ok that he lost a child. what a muse...

General Comment:this song stirs within me a profound sense of spiritural harmony ... much like my favorite book, "siddhartha" by herman hesse ... the unifying theme of both is 'the water'/'the river.'

the novel, set in ancient india, follows the spiritual journey of siddhartha, who leaves the comfort of his brahmin home on a quest for enlightment. he attempts to reach this goal through different approaches: depriving himself as an ascetic, accumulating earthly wealth as a merchant ... at the end of the story, however, siddhartha is only able to attain nirvana by listening to the river ...

"often before, he had heard all this, these many voices in the river, today it sounded new. already, he could no longer tell the many voices apart, not the happy ones from the weeping ones, not the ones of children from those of men, they all belonged together, the lamentation of yearning and the laughter of the knowledgeable one, the scream of rage and the moaning of the dying ones, everything was one, everything was intertwined and connected, entangled a thousand times. and everything together, all voices, all goals, all yearning, all suffering, all pleasure, all that was good and evil, all of this together was the world. all of it together was the flow of events, was the music of life ... and when he heard them all, perceived the whole, the oneness, then the great song of the thousand voices consisted of a single word."

the sentiments in both the book and this song are comforting and inspiring ... in a way that's difficult to verbalize. and that's what makes both exquisite pieces of art.

    "You are made of water"

Yes. There's no such thing as god. We are made of water, but people will still hang on to their beliefs concerning religious creations.

General Comment:This is my favorite song on the album. Feel Good Ghosts has an overarching theme of..like..well it's sort of hard to describe..death/afterlife/ghosts/we're made of everything/we're all connected/circle of life sort of thing.

General Comment:i love this song so much.

i was also thinking that maybe the water could represent purity, like basically meaning when we're born we're pure and innocent...
when u die ur body becomes pure & organic, and u go back to the water, which we come from. and u'll be clean and all ur sins erased, and it's a beautiful thing.

they have lot of songs about death and the circle of life... i love them.
