The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
I love this song! but then again a lot of good music comes out of Denmark. As for a meaning, I think it's comparing robbing a bank to a relationship. You don't want your partner to run off in when robbing a bank or from a relationship lol It’s such a fun song , I can’t wait to get the cd.
This song is great- the high voices are unexpected, and the melody is catchy.
The song is called "Solo Impala"- and because it talks about a car, I'm guessing the Impala is a Chevy Impala- and the solo means that there is only one person in the car.
"Stop the car, and leave it running bad mistakes are waiting in the trunk" I think the car represents a relationship that has gone too far. The singer is asking his girlfriend to stop progressing in the relationship and just leave things as they are. The bad mistakes in the trunk could be buried feelings or a shaky past they they both had- maybe the girlfriend originally left the singer, but then came back and fell in love with him.
"and ive tried and i could take the money and run and leave you like you left me all along but it's not my style" The singer thinks about ending the relationship, and getting revenge for his broken heart, but he isnt the kind of guy to do that.

She is in the 'backseat', meaning the the singer is driving the relationship, and she is helpless because she's in love with him. He considers being in love with her- and thinks that it will work out between them.

Part of him is thinking 'I could be (in love)', but the other part of him wants to 'take the money and run (out of the relationship)'. It's the internal tug of war that he faces that makes this song so powerful.
Plus, the melody rocks. I love the subtle guitar riffs.
