He's the alphabet pony
He's the alphabet pony
Phoney monkey, toy money, loose ends, soda hands, pink plastic Jesus on the dashboard
Just saying
He's the alphabet pony
He's the alphabet pony
No fun, not happy, got no money, need a friend, a volcano dish on a mountain-top to live in
He's the alphabet pony
He's the alphabet pony
I cancel Sunday, cancel Monday, don't look at me, I've running on a no-tomorrow road at great speed, n-n-n-need a punch, a pop, a bang, a different song, like a nice new home needs a mean stray dog.
He's the alphabet pony
He's the alphabet pony
Oh we go up down up down up down town again we like the walk, the talk, don't stop and fall into the quicksand. Sharp teeth, dry heat, can't breathe too many sins, don't forget my cigarettes and get something that we can drink.

"like a nice new pope, needs a meat straight dong"

When I read these lyrics I picture this as the alphabet pony seeing the life of a poor family through it's own eyes.
The alphabet pony goes everywhere with the little boy, so he experiences the dirty "soda hands" of the boy, he thinks the stuffed monkey is "phoney", he sees the jesus on the dashboard of a poor family trying to hold onto their faith.
I think the last two verses are more about the single mom (you can tell I've thought about this) who is scatterbrained and can't seem to settle into a routine, probably works a crazy schedule (hence the cancel sunday cancel monday). The Mom works hard for what they have but struggles to get by; the boy and the Mom walk the town and she buys cigarettes and something to drink.
They have an okay life.
For example, it says, "fall into the QUICKSAND".
and
"Like a nice new HOME needs a mean stray dog".
What's the real point of this song? I love it, but it's a bit random, like something Peaches would sing.
That's the line that stood out at me the first time I heard it.
