Lyrics for It's Not My Time as interpreted by Ramøn

It's Not My Time Lyrics
Looking back at the beginning of this
And how life was
Just you and me and love and all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
Now the currents slowly pulling me down
It's getting harder to breath
It won't be too long and I'll be going under
Can you save me from this?

'Cause it's not my time,
I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh, I won't go

I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take them away
Oh, but I'm taking them back
All this time I've just been to blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friend, this life we live
Is not what we have, it's what we believe

It is not my time
I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But It's not my time
I'm not going
There's a will in me
Now I know that
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh, I won't go

I won't go

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more you can see

But it's not my time
I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But it's not my time
I'm not going
There's a will in me
Now it's gonna show
This could be the end of me
And everything I know

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

But I won't go!
No I wooooon't gooooo down!

Can't wait for the new 3 Doors Down album after hearing this song. It's not there greatest song but it is so damn catchy. It seems like the song is about this guy in a relationship thats about to fall apart and this is him saying that he wants to work it out before it all goes downhill

Oh, I just love this song! :] And most of their songs.

I think this song is about life pulling you away from the one you love. It starts as something good and they're just taking things as they are, but then something happens that causes them to separate (like this song sounds like the singer is moving away). He believes that things will work out in their favor, but deep inside, he's scared of what could really happen. The reality is that he has no choice. So I see this as him objecting to whatever he's being forced to go away to, so that he can stay with the one he loves.

My thinking is kinda messed up right now, so this may be off :]

I agree that the song is probably about a person thats drifting away from his love, but doesn't want this to happen. (of course But I won't go! No I wooooon't gooooo down!)
I think that the singer is being rejected or misunderstood by the one he loves, pointing @ the lines:
There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more you can see

And the singer in this case doesn't want to give in to this fact.

This song is so awesome, it's so catchy, it's one of those songs that you don't mind having stuck in your head. The lyrics are perfect, and I agree that it's about a relationship that is ending, but he wants to work it out. All in all a really great song and really relateable!!

Perhaps I am over simplifying this, but I do not see this about a romantic relationship directly. To me, I see it from the perspective of the singer going through something life threatening. Maybe something like a cancer diagnosis, etc. He is saying this to his love interest and/or his family. He is saying "The news is grim, and I know you see the future as being bleak for me, but while I am scared, I've had too good of a life and I'll be damned if I'm going out like this."

A truly fantastic theme for the human spirit.

I think this song is pretty much related to his near death experience in his car accident with his wife.

i pretty much got a huge war referance to this song!
It makes sense especially with the second verse and the chorus.
I agree with the other meanings as well though. It could mean alot of things.

it means he's not gonna go away until he fixes something that he's regreted for a long time

also a kis near me got killed in a car crash and they played this as loud as hell on a PA system... it was miles from my house and i could hear it in my backyard... thats an awesome way to remember the kid cause his favorite band was three doors down.

My four favorite lines of this song that mean SO much to me and I truthfully believe to this day,
"All this time I've just been to blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friend, this life we live
Is not what we have, it's what we believe"

I thought this song might have had to do with a guy trying to escape jail or the police, the music video kind of made me think that, and hes trying to stay away because hes in love with someone and doesn't want to be separated from her... although I do see the death because he is showing that he's fearless and death and dying doesn't intimidate him. just a thought

I really don't think it's anything relating to a relationship per se. Just about life. I relate to it in the fact that for a while, life was really starting to suck and I was going down with it. Then I woke up one day and said that I'm still alive and kicking and it won't break me that easily. The future is scary, but you've got no choice but to surge forward anyway. Me vs. Life basically, and it's not my time to be the loser. Just what I think :)

I think it's about his fame and his relationship with his partner/wife/whatever.

"I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take them away
Oh, but I'm taking them back
All this time I've just been to blind to understand

I just seen these Guys a month ago in TAMPA, FL for ROCKFEST and they PERFORMED this song its not their best song But it was SO FREAKIN POWERFUL. The Place EXPLODED. I think it was their Best Show Ever and i have been to about 15! I Think this song is about 3 Doors Down as a BAND and the CRITICS TRYING TO BRING THEM DOWN!
Read the Lyrics and think of this being a TOUR KICKOFF SPEECH or Right before they hit the studio.

Sometimes I think we always look for answers in relationships when referencing to songs. I personally think this song is based off of spirituality.

"I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take them away
Oh, but I'm taking them back
All this time I've just been to blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friend, this life we live
Is not what we have, it's what we believe"

He is pretty much saying he made all these plans for the future. But just as easy as we make them, they can be taken away. But through all the materialism lost we should remain to what we know, what our heart believes.

"There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see"

More than we can see, possibly questioning the existence of God. More than we believe? Maybe there is more than we really think.

He saying it's not my time. I am not going. There is a fear, but it's not showing. Maybe he is referring to a near death experience. And maybe this experience he went through has shown a different light on things. And maybe this new light on things has completely changed who he used to be.

Hence the " this could be the end of me, and everything I know." Everything he used to know has been changing and this is the end of the old him. Because know he sees everything clearer and knows there is more.

I think that it's saying that you have certain things that you want to fufill in life before you go and I love this song because my uncle who just died was not always true to his word and didn't always make the right choices in life(which nobody is perfect)got to spend time with all of his family before he died(and his death was unexpected)

i think that it means that he had a life or death situation and that he took life for granted and then god let him live or get past it because " can you save me from all of this?" hes asking god to help him and "its not my time" hes saying he should live thats what i think but then again im not really good with lyrics so :)

There's always one person on EVERY thread who thinks EVERY song is about war or religion. I love soldiers and I love God, but THINK about the song before you post the typical war or Jesus analogy.

The song is about a car crash. Plain. Simple.

think in these terms:
As bad as I think this life is, as much as things suck and I want out-and it seems like he’s trying-God isn’t ready to let me move on. He’s got a reason for me being here, no matter what plans I had made with fame or fortune or family, He has a plan that He’s going to put in place and I’m going to fulfill the purpose He has for me here on this earth.
This is all a culmination of the protagonist realizing that he’s not really ready to die. All of this is pretty clear in the video. The “angel” prevents the mother and child from dying, overcoming many obstacles, because they had something in this world to accomplish; it just wasn’t their time.
For you guys who think this doesn't have anything to do with religion, look and listen to who Brad thanks every time he wins an award or sells another million or performs at a concert...it's God. You may not like it, but he believes God influences his life and his work. I think he's got the right idea and it's apparently working for 3DD. And while I don't think the theme of this song is spirtual or religious, I do think it plays an important role.

I dont see this as a song simply about losing a girlfriend, its much deeper than that... his relationship is good and brings him alot of happiness, but something else is going on in his life threatening to take it all away... He's refusing to give into it, though he's scared, and he's gonna fight all the way. Its a song about being optomistic and realizing you have the choice to fight for what you want in life even if the odds are against you
