Lyrics for Why Walk on Water When We've Got Boats as interpreted by sinktheshipxxx

Why Walk on Water When We've Got Boats Lyrics
Watch what you say on the stand. You're running in circles.
I know more than you think and your words are empty.
Of all the heavenly host's!
This will all make sense when the records gold.
What's a few more units for your soul?

You're waisting my time,
while there waisting away.
You'll never, you'll never save me.
You've dropped every line,
but they don't mean a thing.
You'll never, you'll never save me.

You live your life in the saddest way I've ever seen.
You are the reason i don't believe.
I'm not denying the worth of things unseen,
and this isn't a part of the next big thing.
I'm just dying to show them all that you are.
You are nothing.

Great song! It seems to be anti-religion. How someone he knows believes and it's the "saddest thing he's ever seen" That's why he doesn't believe. Also how people use religion to sell records, and try and shove religion in your face. "Why walk on water when we've got boats?", is also a hint.

I dont think this song is necissarily anti-religion. I think that he is saying how its dumb to be a fake (using religion as an example) just to fit in or sell records. And also how its hard for non-christian people to join and be christians when the "Christians" are the ones being assholes and hypocrites. He never says that God isnt real (I'm not denying the worth of things unseen) or how it can be an important role in a persons life. but you shouldnt use it to get liked.

i say adtr in concert with the devil wears prada and silverstein and they are amazing!!! i love every song on their cd!!

but to me.. and i've talked about this to a couple of people.. this song isn't necesairly against religion.. its against the people in their religion.. more specifically the hypocrites in religion. i hate using the word religion so i'll go ahead and say its talkin about the fakers and hypocrites in christianity. do not get me wrong.. i am a very strong believer and i try to put God first in my life, but this song talks about the thing about my faith and about christianity that i can't stand more then anything.. and thats people who give christians bad names. i think that tyanidexduder nailed it. he doesn't say that there isn't a God.. he is saying the reason that he doesn't have religion is because of God's followers, and again not all His followers just the ones that give us a bad name. any christian who looks down on others, or says stupid stuff like if you watch harry potter then u don't believe in God, or tells anyone how to live their life, or puts themselves up on petistools like they are the most amazing thing in the world because they are a christian and that makes them better then others.. any christian with that type of attitude is exactly what he is singing against and i completely agree with him. CHRISTIANS GIVE CHRISTIANS BAD NAMES. again, i am a firm believer, i am a huge christian, but i am also sick of fakers and hypocrites scaring people off because other people see how they act and decide not to have anything to do with my faith. i do not judge anyone that is not a christian, i do wish that everyone was or would at least try it because it is amazing and there is no other satisfaction you can have then the satisfaction with Christ, but if you decide not to be a christian, hey man thats your decision and thats cool.. i am not going to judge you for it like a lot of other christians would. plus you cant bring people in when you shun them away for not believing in the first place. but anyways.. thats my thoughts on the song.. didn't mean to turn it into a sermon haha. God bless all.

o hey!!! check out my band. we're christian punk/rock come be our friend!!

a day to remember is not a christian band.
nor atheist or anything.
they're simply a BAND, which is how all bands should be, i hate when bands use religion to sell records, to be honest, i hate christian bands alone, and atheist ones...
it's cool that you believe in that shit yeah, yeah, whatever, but keep it to yourself. Keep it out of music... for example underoath...yeah talented, but i think they ruin it by going on and on about being christian. and i dissagree with the lyrics.
*note*-this was a spur of the moment comment.

i have to agree with mycke too. theyre not against religion or God, they even thank God in the special thanks section of their lyric booklet. but for STD to remember (funny name by the way) I think its cook that Christian bands have Christian lyrics and thank God at concerts and stuff. A lyricist should write about what he/she feels. if they dont want to write about religion, then they dont, if they do they do. and that goes for any religion. if there was a jewish band that wanted to write about jewish beliefs or a Buddhist band that wanted to write about their beliefs, good for them, i would probably listen if they were good at making music and writing lyrics (not that ive ever seen any of those kind of bands before though.)

I really don't think this song as much at all to do with religion or even Christianity.I think that he is just talking about those people that try to use Christianity to sell records, because let's face it,claiming that your band is Christian is an easy way to get wider exposure. He's just saying that it makes him sick to see people use personal things like religion to get rich.I think that the line "i'm not denying the worth of things unseen" proves that this isn't actually about God Himself.

At the risk of being ridiculed. I will just say this: I do not beleive thay religion can hold any place in a civilized society. Something which claims to bring peace has lead to countless wars and brutality, massacres. Life is more valued in atheism.

The theoretical existance of god is something else. I just despise these name-brand religions and the hypocrisy which comes with them-the pope wearing gold jewelery and living in luxury not disimilar to a king and urging followers to reject materialism-the old testament of the bible pratically promoting stoning for minor crimes and saying that slaves should just resign to their fate. The old testament was later re-worded and twisted to suit changing needs and made more appealing BUT it states in the old testament that the bible is the word of god which is "PERFECT" so WHY would it need to be re-worded?
-PROOF that religion is a tool for the control of people-Holy wars and the fact that jesus was meant to return to earth in the year 1000ad (Y1K), but never showed leaving alot of people rather dissapointed on a mountain.

Science and technology, which is at the HEART of civilization conflicts with the bible, in almost every way. On the first page of genesis it is stated that god craeted the heavens and the earth. Scientific evidence and theory suggests that the universe was created in a cycle, which involves the universe compressing together, until all the matter is compressed to a near microscopic size, the exploding outwards, the universe's edges expanding at the speed of light, until eventually they slow and begin to compress the universe again, continuing the cycle. Scientific fact tears down religion.

How can we be the 'children' of god when we are directly related to primates? Are primates also the children of god? Apparently not because animals 'don't have souls'. That must mean that we don't have souls either and are animals which is at the base of atheism. If you would still have 'faith' knowing this then you must keep in mind that you don't have a soul, when you kill it's an innocence, and you WON'T go to heaven when you die.

I agree with what mrwaffles has stated, but to an extent.
i also understand that this page is to say what we think of the lyrics to this song, and not a religious debate forum or anything, but i think more people need to read the kind of things people like he and I have to say.
Yes, I believe earth was formed by whatever cycle science can prove, to be honest, I haven't learned much about the subject as of now.
But what I believe is this: the force that is the cycle of the Earth being created, the big bang, whatever else has created the earth, is God in itself. I don't see God as a person in the skies watching over what everyone does and judging us, I see God as science making life possible, with as many physical laws like gravity, the compression of the air in the atmosphere, and the suns rays being so harmful, that life can be created here on Earth, along with us humans able feel emotions like love and compassion. I believe science is the answer to how, and not why. why are animals able to adapt to their environments? Scientists can run as many tests as they can, but can't prove specifically for what reason, only how. To me, science and God go hand in hand. I also think if you choose to believe in the reality of life on Earth, it wouldn't make much sense if you believe that there is no way you can go anywhere else after you die. Theres no proven reason WHY we have life here, or that there isn't anything more than just 'this'. I think we have toungues so we can communicate and live lives, fingers so we can create, and souls so we can move onto whatever comes next that science, along with God, had in store for nature. I know most of what I said goes against Christianity, and probably Athiesm, and I'm aware I'm not an expert on this subject, but it's what i believe.

I hope I made any sense to anyone:]

I think everybody is going WAY too deep into the title of this song. I think it's more simple than all of you guys are making it sound. Way more simple.

I believe this song is simply about the Jesus Freaks. I think it's telling them and the rest of the world that you can be of the Christian religion without being to "into" it. What I mean by saying that is this:

You can be a Christian without being a complete psycho about God, and you'll still be respected by Jesus as much as you were before, if the Bible is all fact, not fiction. The title, "Why Walk on Water When We've Got Boats" is simply saying that you don't have to base your ENTIRE life on Jesus Christ, you don't have to. There are other things in life than God. That's my opinion/interpretation.

You guys all nailed it it's a really awesome song the lyrics, don't get me wrong I'm, a firm believer, BUT it's really really true and I think almost everyone in the christian faith is guilty of being hypocritical it's a really good song and I think even christian's can learn from it.
