And it starts
Sometime around midnight
Or at least that's when
You lose yourself
For a minute or two

As you stand
Under the bar lights
And the band plays some song
About forgetting yourself for a while
And the piano's this melancholy soundcheck
To her smile
And that white dress she's wearing
You haven't seen her
For a while

But you know
That she's watching
She's laughing, she's turning
She's holding her tonic like a crux
The room suddenly spinning
She walks up and asks how you are
So you can smell her perfume
You can see her lying naked in your arms

And so there's a change
In your emotions
And all of these memories come rushing
Like feral waves to your mind
Of the curl of your bodies
Like two perfect circles entwined
And you feel hopeless, and homeless
And lost in the haze
Of the wine

And she leaves
With someone you don't know
But she makes sure you saw her
She looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
Your blood boiling
Your stomach in ropes
And when your friends say, "What is it?"
You look like you've seen a ghost

And you walk
Under the streetlights
And you're too drunk to notice
That everyone is staring at you
And you so care what you look like
The world is falling
Around you

You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her

And you know that she'll break you
In two

General Comment:Everyone has felt this feeling at one point. And if you haven't yet, I promise you, you will.
A man is in a bar and the girl he once dated, the girl of his dreams, his only true love thus far walks in. She torments him. He let his pride get in the way of losing her. She ran away because he hurt her, but she still loved him with her entire soul. And he never fought to get her back because he didn't want to seem weak, but he thinks of her everyday.

The girl is watching him, she walks up, hugs him, says hi..Everything seems like they are simply old friends but its an act. She loves him. He loves her. But the girl is with another boy. And she is desperately trying to love this other boy but the man in the bar makes it almost impossible for her. They had a connection deeper than most ever will.

She is a beautiful free spirited girl, young with the world in her hands and he can't help but still be in love with her. It is literally torture to him.

The two are torturing each other and they both know it, but both will never say it. He relives every beautiful moment they had and he can barely breathe. She leaves with the man he doesn't know but she turns away and looks at him.. They both recognize the look in each others eyes, but its over and neither can do anything about it.

All he wants is to be with her, but it is a toxic relationship. It will never work. They only destroy one another with a love too passionate and they can never be together. Both of them are broken on the inside. They know these things take time and they will wait.

General Comment:Consider yourself lucky if you haven't been there. Great lines - "You just have to see her, and you know that she'll break you in two."

General Comment:Yes, he is still in love with her, the memories of them being together. The love they shared. He loves her and she loved him, and she still loves him. Coming from a woman’s point of view, she didn’t break up with him, he broke up with her. “Hell hath no fury”. He hurt her, she wants him to feel the pain she felt. She wants him to see her having fun, looking beautiful and yes leaving with another man. She is sending a very clear message. You had me, I loved you and you messed up!! So you lost me. But make no mistake, she still loves him. If she didn’t she wouldn’t have bothered.

General Comment:Is anyone else reminded of The Great Gatsby?
Because it reminds me of the part where Gatsby's throwing one of his huge extravagant parties and Daisy shows up to it for the first time. In the book, I believe she was wearing a white dress to the party, and that someone said to Gatsby "you look like you've seen a ghost" sometime during the party. And they showed up to Gatsby's around midnight.. And as Daisy's leaving, she searches for Gatsby in the crowd of faces, but she's with her husband.

So there are some similarities, if I'm remembering correctly. And I imagine this song to be about that part, only from Gatsby's perspective to pay tribute, I guess, since you only get Nick's perspective in the book.

Either way, it's a beautiful song, it gets me every time. (':

And this girl, Jen Miller, did a lovely cover of it. She messes up once or twice, but her voice really does justice to the mood of the song. Check it out: youtube.com/…

General Comment:I'd wager that this actually happened to him. It's too intimate and detailed to be a conjured memory. Beautiful song.

General Comment:It seems to me as if it's simply about a girl he sees when he's out with friends. But, she's one of those girls who the first time you see her, you feel as if you have to be with you for the rest of your life. But, anyways, he can't stop thinking about her and wants to get to know her, or at least take her home, but then he sees her walking away with another man. He gets that feeling, that I for one know I've had, where your stomach turns inside out and you feel like a child because you are so deeply crushed by the sight. He becomes incredibly depressed and tries to drink it away. Then he leaves the bar to go search for her because he feels as if she is the perfect angel and that he must have her, but he is so drunk that people stare at him, almost in disgust.

Song Meaning:As pointed out by other users, the song is obviously about bumping into an ex in a bar and drunkenly going off half-cocked.

I think the beauty of this song is in its honesty and how untraditional it is, as a pop song. The structure, the lyrics, the story and the perspective from which it's told... the details are almost poetic. Apparently the singer/songwriter of the band wanted to be a writer at first, and I think you can tell. The way he doesn't shy away from portraying himself in a bad light is also somehow endearing and just brutally honest.

One of my favourite songs of all time, without a doubt. Really powerful.

General Comment:PS- You may even start knocking back drinks.. and every one is staring at you because every one knows your history and they're waiting on your reaction. Small towns are no fun. They invent the meaning of "you can't go home."

General Comment:This song rings so true it's beyond not funny.

If you've ever been young and in love you understand how hard it can be to move on. You may physically move, but there are typically holidays or events that usually bring you back to that same place. You can go back and visit convinced that you've moved on.. and be out catching up with old friends over a few drinks.. when enter.. the person you thought you were over. You honestly didn't expect to run into to them or to react in such a way.

You're already spinning from the wine and the old familiar feelings are easily stirred because you're in an old familiar setting.

You want to go talk to that person, but you play the chicken game.

They leave with their date, and you suddenly feel all the wounds and urgency as fresh as if you had just broken up.

General Comment:My Boyfriend dedicated this song to me, and I was confused cuz i have never broke up with him or cheated on him. But he put it like this.

    And it starts...
    Sometime around midnight
    Or at least that's when
    You lose yourself
    For a minute or two

    As you stand...
    Under the barlights
And the band plays some song
About forgetting yourself for a while
And the piano's this melancholy soundcheck
    To her smile
And that white dress she's wearing
    You haven't seen her
    For a while

    To this he said:

Every night i think about you. I let my self go, and think about all the memories we have created together.
He misses me ( we are in a long distance relationship)
He thinks about everything about me.

    But you know...
    That she's watching
    She's laughing, she's turning
She's holding her tonic like a crux
    The room suddenly spinning
She walks up and asks how you are
So you can smell her perfume
You can see her lying naked in your arms

Then when i finally come and visit him, he thinks about all the stuff in the previous stanzas as waves of emotion, and then he just is quite. When i am done saying hi to all his family i start walking to him and the room spins, when i ask him how he is he thinks about all the nights we have spent together.

    And so there's a change...
    In your emotions
And all of these memories come rushing
Like feral waves to your mind
Of the curl of your bodies
    Like two perfect circles entwined
And you feel hopeless, and homeless
    And lost in the haze
    Of the wine

    ^^ basically explains his feelings

    And she leaves...
    With someone you don't know
But she makes sure you saw her
She looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
    Your blood boiling
    Your stomach in ropes
And when your friends say what is it
You look like you've seen a ghost

He says this is about when i finally have to leave him. He says the 'person you dont know'' is all the people that live by me, that get to see me everyday. Then i take one last look at him and leave because if i stay anylonger i would never leave. He is already missing me.

    And you walk...
    Under the streetlights
And you're too drunk to notice
That everyone is staring at you
And you so care what you look like
    The world is falling
    Around you

and when i am gone he doesnt know how to live without me.

You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her

And you know that she'll break you
    In two

^^ basically self explanitory. And when he misses me i break him in two becuase he doesnt even recognize himself when he isnt around me

    cute right? <3
    I love him so much!
