You've been checking on my facts
And I admit I have been lax
In double-screening what I say
It wasn't funny anyway

I stand corrected

No one cares when you are wrong
But I've been at this far too long
To act like that when we should be
In perfect harmony

I stand corrected

Lord knows I haven't tried
I'll take my stand
One last time
Forget the protocol
I'll take your hand
Right in mine

I stand corrected

My Interpretation:You've been checking on my facts
And I admit I have been lax
    In double-screening what I say
    It wasn't funny anyway

First verse: He said something he shouldn't have, It was not true or factual--at least in the way what he said represented it. He did not screen what he was saying in the way he should he has been lazy. It was not funny so no justification there either.

    I stand corrected

No one cares when you are wrong
But I've been at this far too long
To act like that when we should be
    In perfect harmony

Second Verse: People don't mind when you (as in anybody) is wrong or makes small errors especially for jokes. But he has been careless with what he says too much (or at least with regards to the relationship he is in. BECAUSE.... in a relationship you are supposed to strive for harmony. He has been perpetuating this problem. (Careless speech can be a source of friction in a relationship and it certainly detracts)

    I stand corrected

    Lord knows I haven't tried
    I'll take my stand
    One last time
    Forget the protocol
    I'll take your hand
    Right in mine

Third Verse: He hasn't been trying to address this. "I'll take my stand one last time" seems a little enigmatic but I will assume here that he means he is going to stop and change his behavior for good. Saying "forget the protocol" is saying forget the usual negative feelings after a fight. He just wants it fixed. He is going to stop it and he just wants to take her hand in his again.

well that's how I see it. I really empathize with the interpretation that he just wants the fight protocol to end and get back to being happy with his loved one.

My Opinion:I think this song isn't about an argument between lovers, but rather about arguments in general. it's about accepting and especially admitting the fact you were wrong and also about moving on, so to say just forget about the fight and "be friends again".

General Comment:It definitely could be interpreted that he is being sarcastic, but I also think he could be being honest. He is restating her mantras, and therefore telling her, "I love you, okay, you're right. Fine."

General Comment:I don't think its about him being whipped, or in a shitty relationship at all.

    "I have been lax
In double screening what I say
    It wasn't funny anyway"

Sounds exactly like a poorly-chosen/delivered joke that he's fessing up to.

"No one cares when you are wrong
But I've been at this far too long
To act like that when we should be
    In perfect harmony"

Read: 'I could point to things you've done wrong too, dear, but I've been in too many relationships to think that will end well. Instead, I'll let you have this one, it was my bad, I stand corrected, can I just hold your hand again?'

    "Lord knows I haven't tried
    I'll take my stand
    One last time
    Forget the protocol
    I'll take your hand
    Right in mine"

Ok, not too sure how this one plays out. "Lord knows I haven't tried" sounds to me like he wants to improve himself, but hasn't put in the effort. Taking his stand one last time could then mean he's hoping this will be the last time he gets called on something like this and has to stand corrected. Ain't got nothing for how he forget[s] the protocol, however.

General Comment:ya, so it's about a guy who hates being corrected all the time by his girl... he's whipped.

when he says "lord knows i haven't tried" its just reiterating that he's whipped. even know he's the one that has to deal with the bullshit all the time, he still puts the blame on himself. blindness.

General Comment:I think that he said something jokingly (it wasnt funny anyway) that she took wrong and overreacted. she then wanted nothing to do with him so to keep her as a friend/lover he apologizes by standing corrected. It happened to me once but she still didnt care.

General Comment:couldn't it be like when you like someone, and you have to stand everything he/she does... even bad things. But you don't want to lose him/her, that's why you "stand corrected"... you act like nothing happends.... you try to show your best and you keep you emotions inside...

i love the end of the song when he finally says Forget the protocol
    I'll take your hand
    Right in mine

i think it's like saying: i'm done with pretending... i dunnooo, like, getting it off his chest?

General Comment:this song is a somewhat desperate ultimatum. the beginning of the song is the beginning of the relationship where he likes her so much he just wants her nagging "You've been checking on my facts" to end "I admit I have been lax." He's just saying that to get her off his back so he can focus on her qualities that he likes. The second verse is the middle of the relationship and by now he is brainwashed to this woman. Her constant nagging and nitpicking have left him an unconfident wreck. The first line he points out her own shortcomings ("No one cares when you are wrong"), but then is immediately punished for going against her will because in the next lines he is apologizing for it and placing all the blame on himself (saying it's his fault for causing tension and by now they should be in perfect harmony). The last verse is the end of the relationship. Apparently in the time between the second and last verses, the singer has grown a backbone. Its obvious he likes this woman, but her annoying nagging quality overpowers his feelings for her. This last verse is one of the most meaningful in the song.

"Lord knows I haven't tried" = He's tried his best to keep the relationship together and learn to deal with her bad qualities

"I'll take my stand, One last time" = He's finally had enough, ultimatum time. It's either stop her nagging or he's gone

    "Forget the protocol
    I'll take your hand
Right in mine" = This is what he hopes will happen. That for once she'll stop judging and correcting him and they can just forget all the rules and bindings of their relationship and simply be themselves. It's clear the singer still wants the relationship to work, but were not quite sure how it ends. Personally, I think he breaks up with her because of that final "I stand corrected" line at the end, which kind of is the sad line from earlier.

General Comment:It's coming to the realization that you can't blindly agree with someone because of your love for them.
You try to see their point-of-view and want to agree, but around your friends you are different. But you think "maybe, over time, this person will change."
It's almost like meeting someone and having to sit through superficial conversations because you THINK they are pretty cool, and finding out that they really are THAT shallow and have nothing else to offer.
Which makes you wrong for thinking that person could change for the better, because they were that shallow from the beginning and you were the one who changed.
It sucks to be wrong about someone you really want to like, and usually it takes a while before you have to write-them-off.
